  • Preconditioners for a two-dimensional combined finite element formulation have been devised and tested for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. The FSI code simulating the interaction of a elastic body with an unsteady flow is based on P2P1 finite element combined formulation. It has been shown that two preconditioners among them perform well with respect to computational memory and convergence for a bench-mark problem. Based on the verification of the preconditioners for the two-dimensional combined formulation, four preconditioners are proposed for the problem of an elastic body interacting with a flow.

  • A new numerical algorithm using equal order linear finite element and fractional step method has been developed which is capable of analyzing unsteady fluid flow and heat transfer problems. Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG) method is used for the weighted residual formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown that fractional step method, in which pressure term is splitted from the momentum equation, reduces computer memory and computing time. In addition, since pressure equation is derived without any approximation procedure unlike in the previously developed SIMPLE algorithm based FEM codes, the present numerical algorithm gives more accurate results than them. The present algorithm has been applied preferentially to the well known bench mark problems associated with steady flow and heat transfer, and proves to be more efficient and accurate.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault simulation method based on primary output in combinational circuit. In the deterministic test pattern generation, each test pattern is genterated incrementally. The test pattern is applied to the primary inputs of circuit under test to simulate faults. We detect the faults with respect to each primary output. The fault detection with resptect to each primary output is reflected by the corresponding bit in the detection words, and efficient fault detection for the reconvergent fan-out stem is achieved with dynamic fault propagation. As an experimental result of the fault simulation with our method for the several bench mark circuits, we illustrated the good performance showing that the number of gates to be activated is much reduced as compared with other method which is not based on primary output.

  • As the density of VLSI increases, the conventional logic testing is not sufficient to completely detect the new faults generated in design and fabrication processing. Recently, IDDQ testing becomes very attractive since it can overcome the limitations of logic testing. In this paper, G-ATPG (gyeongsang automatic test pattern genrator) is designed which is able to be adapted to IDDQ testing for combinational CMOS VLSI. In G-ATPG, stuck-at, transistor stuck-on, GOS (gate oxide short)or bridging faults which can occur within priitive gate or XOR is modelled to primitive fault patterns and the concept of a fault-sensitizing gate is used to simulate only gates that need to sensitize the faulty gate because IDDQ test does not require the process of fault propagation. Primitive fault patterns are graded to reduce CPU time for the gates in a circuit whenever a test pattern is generated. the simulation results in bench mark circuits show that CPU time and fault coverage are enhanced more than the conventional ATPG using IDDQ test.

  • A hybrid mesh based finite volume compressible flow code (PolySim) has been developed recently. Instead of the simple average method for the gradients of variables at each face, the volume average is applied for the calculation of the viscous flux. What is more, an improved Green Gauss method for the calculation of the gradient is also presented. These two techniques will improve both the accuracy and robustness of the code. The aerodynamic performance of this in-house cell centered code is examined by several widely-used bench-mark test cases. These cases include flows over flat plate and RAE 2822 etc. The comparisons on results between calculation and experiment are conducted. They show that the code can produce good numerical results which agree well with the corresponding experiment data.

  • In this study a program 'SAPONC-FRANCE' which is able to evaluate and analysis the elastic behavior property of the domestic FRANCE type containment under pressurization and depressurization in periodic structural integrity test (SIT) was developed. The readings of EAU system that is composed of the pendulum, invar-wire, leveling-pot, bench-mark, thermocouples and acoustic strain gauges were used as input data for operating the program. This program provides the prediction lines and bands of the pressure-strain(or displacement) relationship of concrete due to the changing of inner volume under pressurization and depressurization in SIT of the domestic FRANCE type containment.

  • As most application programs are more sophisticated and are adopted the distributed object technology, the object based distributed design became widespread since it supports portability and reusability. The approaches for fault-tolerant distributed computing are categorized into the active replica mechanism for mission-critical application programs and the passive replica mechanism for non mission-critical ones, when fault-tolerant facilities are added on. Our paper introduces the pros and drawbacks of several approaches for the add-on low-overhead fault-tolerant services by the surveys and shows the results of experiments for bench-mark models in order to demonstrate their performance.

  • Stress intensity factor is one of the most important parameters in fracture mechanics. Both the stress field distribution and the crack propagation are closely related to these parameters. Due to the complexity of actual engineering problems, it is difficult to calculate the stress intensity factor by theoretical formulation, so photoelasticity method is a good choice. In this paper, modified two parameter method is employed to calculate stress intensity factor for opening mode by using data from more than one photoelastic fringe loop. For getting accurate experiment results, the initial fringes are doubled and sharpened by digital image programs from the fringe patterns obtained by a CCD camera. Photoelastic results are compared with those obtained by the use of empirical equation and FEM. Good agreement shows that the methods utilized in experiments are considerably reliable. The photoelastic experiment can be used for bench mark in theoretical study and other experiments.

  • Computational accuracy of the modified Borresen's coarse-mesh diffusion theory scheme is investigated with the steady-state solutions of the two- and three-dimensional LRA-BWR bench-mark problem. By comparing the numerical results available for the critical eigenvalue and power distribution of the LRA-BWR, it is shown that the modified scheme is capable of predicting the power distribution of the multi-dimensional BWR problem with an improved accuracy.

  • The main objective of this experimental research was to investigate the Seismic performance of reinforced concrete frames infilled with perforated clay brick masonry wall of a type commonly used in Algeria. Four one story-one bay reinforced concrete infilled frames of half scale of an existing building were tested at the National Earthquake Engineering Research Center Laboratory, CGS, Algeria. The experiments were carried out under a combined constant vertical and reversed cyclic lateral loading simulating seismic action. This experimental program was performed in order to evaluate the effect and the contribution of the infill masonry wall on the lateral stiffness, strength, ductility and failure mode of the reinforced concrete frames. Numerical models were developed and calibrated using the experimental results to match the load-drift envelope curve of the considered specimens. These models were used as a bench mark to assess the effect of normalized axial load on the seismic performance of the RC frames with and without masonry panels. The main experimental and analytical results are presented in this paper.
