  • Peripheral facial nerve palsy is a neurological condition/disease characterized by unilateral paralysis of the facial muscles. We report the effects of complex Korean medicine treatment in 2 patients diagnosed with Bell's palsy who developed symptoms 3-4 days following vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 and who received oral steroids and antiviral medications. Complex Korean medicine treatments including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, bee venom acupuncture, cupping therapy, herbal medicine, and physical therapy were performed. Symptom improvement was evaluated daily using the Numerical Rating Scale, House-Brackmann Grade, and Yanagihara's Score. Patient 1 was hospitalized for 22 days and Patient 2 visited the outpatient clinic 20 times. In both cases, postauricular pain caused by Bell's palsy disappeared, and symptoms of facial paralysis improved following completion of treatment. These findings could suggest that combined Korean medicine treatment may improve symptoms of peripheral facial nerve palsy.

Methods : The patient was treated with dry needle acupuncture, bee venom pharmacupuncture, herb medicine, indirect moxibustion and physical therapy. We estimated S kinds of Symptoms by Visual Analog Scale, lower limb motor grade test, gait condition test and sensory examination to evaluate the effect of Oriental conservative treatment. Results : After treatment, patient's visual analogue scale score were generally decreased 10 to 4 and lower limb muscle power and gait condition were improved. Conclusions : Oriental Medicine Therapy might be an effective method to treat the Lumbosacral plexitis patient who was diagnosed as Wei Symptom. It is necessary to have more observation and many cases of patients with Lumbosacral plexitis.

  • Objectives : This study was to investigate the effects of Oriental medical treatment on ALS. Methods : We investigated 12 ALS patients which were admitted to Gwang-Ju O.M.hospital for 3 months and follow-up at 8 months after discharge. All patients were treated by SAAM-acupuncture, herb medication, Bee venom Pharmacopuncture therapy, Needle-embedding therapy, etc and after discharge self-therapy at home. We evaluated patients using the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised(ALSFRS-R), Medical Research Council (MRC) Scale. Results : After 1 month, mean ALSFRS-R score of patients was $29.08{\pm}7.99$, 2 months $28.70{\pm}7.17$, 3 months $28.16{\pm}8.23$, 1 year $21.33{\pm}9.93$ and mean MRC Scale of patients was $25.34{\pm}8.45$, 2 months $25.34{\pm}8.45$, 3months $21.56{\pm}9.20$. But in both cases, the variation was not statistically significant. Conclusions : We think that the results of this case be a pilot study that proves the effect of Oriental Medical treatment on ALS.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the use of Korean medicine for treating radial nerve palsy. Methods : We searched for studies on the use of Korean medicine for the treatment of radial nerve palsy in 7 electronic databases and analyzed these studies. Results : We found 95 studies on radial nerve palsy from 7 electronic databases. We excluded 77 duplicate studies, 1 review article and 2 studies published before 2000. As a result, 15 case studies(36 patients) were included. Acupuncture(15 times), electroacupuncture(6 times), pharmacopuncture(9 times), herbal medicine(11 times), physical therapy(10 times), moxibustion(3 times), cupping therapy(1 time), chuna manual therapy(1 time) and yinyang balancing appliance(1 time) were used. LI11 for acupuncture, LI4, LI11 for electroacupuncture, bee venom as pharmacopuncture material and LI4, LI10, LI11 in pharmacopuncture point, Boik-tang gami as herbal medicine, hot pack for physical therapy, LI4, LI11 for moxibustion were the most frequently used. Conclusions : Korean medicine treatment for radial nerve palsy has been performed in various ways. However, we found limited evidence regarding Korean medicine for radial nerve palsy. Thus, we think various types of studies including more case reports, for radial nerve palsy should be performed in the future.

To evaluate the results of this treatment, we used the Numeral Rating Scale (NRS), Score of Sleeping Quality (SSQ) and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). After treatment, the patient showed that pain was reduced, the score of NRS was improved, FIQ improved from 91 to 69 and SSQ improved from 3 to 1. No adverse reaction was noted. Conclusion: According to the result, traditional Korean medical treatment can be effective and safe for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

We compared the VAS and ODI scores of the two groups statistically. 2. Intervention : Use Acupuncture and bee venom injection in thoracolumbar junction's Hyeopcheok points that display main tender points. Also, herb medication and physical therapy was used. Results and Conclusion : As a result of treatment, thoracolumbar junction's Hyeopcheok points is very effective for low-back pain.
