  • A coincidence gamma-ray spectroscopy method was applied to reduce the background radioactivity for measuring the activity of radioisotopes in a sample in the presence of environmental natural radioactivity. A HPGe detector was used for the coincident spectrum as a main detector and a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector for gating purposes as an associated detector. For coincidence spectroscopy the whole energy spectrum of associated detector was used instead of gate signals. The coincident events obtained from the gating spectrum was evaluated by a coincidence computer program in this study instead of timing circuit. In this work, the background of detection environment was reduced to factor 100 and peaks to be determined was reduced to factor 30 using the coincidence gamma-ray spectroscopy.

  • Most industrial accidents occur when the workers' unsafe behavior and the unsafe situation of workplace take place at the same time. Although human's unsafe behavior is indispensable to work field, the evaluation scheme to detect the causes for the accident resulted from human's unsafe behavior and counterplan should be prepared to prevent and reduce accident. To do this, we first classify the specific background factors in terms of human inner factor and environment factor and then develop the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model to analyze the background factors that affect the worker's unsafe behavior. We also develop a checklist to be able to evaluate the occurrence possibility of individual worker's unsafe behavior.

  • This experimental research explores the effect of background music of TV documentary which can be classified as channel factor in the field of media effect, on audience's recall memory, flow, arousal of interest, evaluation of documentary. Most previous researches of media effect focused on the effect of sender factor and message factor on audience's memory, understanding, acquirement of knowledge, attitude, action. However the number of researches on the effect of background music on audience's various dependent variables is extremely limited, especially it is very difficult to find studies on the effect of background music of TV documentary on audience. Therefore this research tries to find the effect of background music of TV documentary on audience's recall memory, flow, arousal of interest, evaluation. For this research of experiment, 2 groups of subjects composed of 101 university students were exposed to 2 different video clips of TV documentary, one with background music, the other without it, After this experiment, Questions which were designed to measure audience's recall memory, flow, arousal of interest, evaluation were asked and analysed. This research found that background music of TV documentary increased audience's flow, degree of interest and raised evaluation, However meaningful effect of background music on audience's recall memory was not found.

  • The wind-induced mean, background and resonant responses of Beijing National Stadium are investigated in this paper. Based on the concepts of potential and kinetic energies, the mode participation factors for the background and the resonant components are presented and the dominant modes are identified. The coupling effect between different modes of the resonant response and the coupling effect between the background and resonant responses are analyzed. The coupling effects between the background and resonant components and between different modes are found all negligible. The mean response is approximately analogous to the peak responses induced by the fluctuating wind. The background responses are significant in the fluctuating responses and it is much larger than the resonant responses at the measurement locations.

  • In this paper, a new background subtraction algorithm for video based fence monitoring surveillance systems is proposed. We adopt the sampling based background subtraction technique and focus on the two main issues: handling highly dynamic environment and handling the flickering nature of pulse based IR (infrared) lamp. Natural scenes from fence monitoring system are usually composed of several dynamic entities such as swaying trees, moving water, waves and rain. To deal with such dynamic backgrounds, we utilize the confidence factor for each background value of the input image. For the flickering IR lamp, the original sampling based technique is extended to handle double background models. Experimental results revealed that our method works well in real fence monitoring surveillance systems.

  • In this study, the effects of the founder's characteristics on venture's business success factors for pet business was investigated focused on the pet hospitals. The effects of the founder's background and psychological characteristics, the business start-up preparing procedure characteristics, and service factor characteristics for customers on the business performance was analyzed by classifying it into financial business performance and non-financial business performance for the he pet hospitals. The questionnaire survey for 150 pet hospitals located in Seoul and Gyunggi-do area was performed, and the main conclusions was drawn as follows. First, as a result of research model analysis for financial business performance among the business performance, it was analyzed that the founder's academic background factor among the founder's background factors had a statistically significantly negative Influence on the financial business performance, on the contrary, the control locus factor among the founder's psychological factors, and the financing factor among the business start-up preparing procedure factors had a statistically significantly positive influence on the financial business performance. Second, as a result of research model analysis for non-financial business performance among the business performance, it was analyzed that the danger acceptance propensity factor among the business start-up preparing procedure factors and the intangible service quality factor among the service quality factors had a statistically significantly positive influence on the non-financial business performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Korean dramas selection factors for Chinese audiences on the national image of South Korea. The results of this study were as follows: First, selection factors of Korean dramas for Chinese audiences were categorized 'subject and content', 'direction and background music', and 'style of actor or actress'. Among these factors, this study was found that a factor of drama's 'subject and content' had an effect on the selection of Korean dramas for Chinese audiences. Second, 'touristic factor', 'cultural factor', and 'stylistic factor' were examined as a national image factor of South Korea for Chinese audiences. The Chinese audiences surveyed responded positively on 'cultural factor'. The images delivered through the Korean TV dramas have very much influenced the Chinese audiences to view contemporary Korean society as a country of modern and urban elegance. Furthermore, the audiences cognized South Korea is a friendly nation as South Korea and China has a similar cultural background like the Confucian culture. Third, the study found selection factors of Korean dramas for Chinese audiences had positive effects on the national image of South Korean. These positive influences were found on 'touristic factor', 'cultural factor', and 'stylistic factor' From these results, Chinese audiences watch Korean dramas focused on 'subject and content', 'direction and background music', and 'style of actor or actress'. Watching Korean dramas help to create the friendly national image of South Korea. The study shows a possibility to increase an interest and preference on the Korean pop culture.
