This paper introduces the lithium ion battery system for LEO(Low Earth Orbit) small satellites. This study proves the reliability of lithium ion batteries applying to the space application. The specifications for lithium ion battery unit are proposed to supply power to the satellite and the overall mechanical design including structural simulation to confirm the reliability of the lithium ion BMS(Battery Management System) under the space environment and launching conditions. The results of structural simulation, functional tests, and space environmental tests show the lithium ion battery system is space qualified. Space qualification of the small satellite battery system to secure reliability of BMS and lithium ion batteries lend credibility for using lithium ion batteries in space application.

Lithium-ion batteries have been used in energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles (EVs), etc. due to their high safety, fast charging and long lifecycle. This paper aims to improve the convenience of users by changing the wired battery stack used in the battery pack, wirelessly using RFID, reducing the internal volume of the battery pack, reducing the size of the battery pack. In this paper, we propose a battery management system which can provide the flexibility of battery pack expansion and maintenance by using lithium ion battery, battery management system (BMS) and wireless communication for light weight of 1Kw small battery pack. Also, by flexibly arranging the cell layout inside the battery pack and designing to reduce the size of the outer shape of the battery pack.

Naval battleships have systems to perform special purposes, such as the Command and Fire Control System (CFCS). Some of the this equipment should be equipped with an Uninterruptible Power System (UPS ) to ensure operational continuity and the backup of important data, even during unexpected power outages caused by problems with the ship's power generator. Heavy combat losses can occur if the equipment cannot satisfy the function. Therefore, it is important to design a stable UPS. The battery and Battery Management System (BMS) are two of the most important factors for designing a stable UPS. A power outage will be encountered if the battery and BMS are not stable. The customer will be exposed to abnormal situations, loss of important tactical data, and inability to operate some of the CFCS. As a result, an enhanced safety system should be designed. Thus, this study implemented and verified the improved system in terms of three methods, such as comparative analysis of the batteries, improvement about leakage current of the circuit, and tests of the aggressive environmental resistance to improve the UPS for CFCS.

In order to drive a hybrid propulsion device which combines an engine and an electric propulsion unit, battery packs that contain dozens of unit cells consisting of a lithium-based battery are used to maintain the power source. Therefore, it is necessary to more strictly manage a number of battery cells at any given time. In order to manage battery cells, generally voltage, current, and temperature data under load condition are monitored from a personal computer. Other important elements required to analyze the condition of the battery are the internal resistances that are used to judge its state-of-health (SOH) and the open-circuit voltage (OCV) that is used to check the battery charging state. However, in principle, the internal resistances cannot be measured during operation because the parallel equivalent circuit is composed of internal loss resistances and capacitance. In most energy storage systems, battery management system (BMS) operations are carried out by using data such as voltage, current, and temperature. However, during operation, in the case of unexpected battery cell failure, the output voltage of the power supply can be changed and propulsion of the hybrid vehicle and vessel can be difficult. This paper covers the implementation of a high safety battery management system (HSBMS) that can estimate the OCV while the device is being driven. If a battery cell fails unexpectedly, a DC power supply with lithium iron phosphate can keep providing the load with a constant output voltage using the remainder of the batteries, and it is also possible to estimate the internal resistance.
이러한 BMS는 ESS(Energy Storage System, 에너지저장시스템)의 핵심부품으로서, 관련업계에서는 새로운 기술 개발에 박차를 가하고 있다.
