The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of soyoligosaccharides on intestinal microflora transit time lipid profiles and immune responses. Forty-eight male rats of Sprague-Dawley strain were divided into six groups(SYS: soybean oil-sucrose SYO: soybean oil-oligo SES; esame oil-sucrose SEO:sesame oil-oligo BFS : beef tallow-sucrose BFO : beef tallow-oligo) soyoligo-groups(SYO, SEO, BEO) were fed the diet containing 5% soyoligosaccharides but control groups not fed them and all groups were fed 20% fats for 4 weeks. The number of fecal bifidobacteria tended to increase after soyoligosaccharides feeding. The significant increase was found in SEO group compared to SES in that of fecal bifidobacteria,. Stool wet weight dry fecal weight and stool water content were increased significantly in soyoligo-group(SYO, SEO, BFO) compared to control groups(SYS, SES, BFS) and gastrointestinal transit time(TT) tended to increase. Soyoligosaccharides lowered plasma cholesterol in SEO group significantly more than did other groups. soyoligo-groups(SYO, SEO, BFO) tended to decrease liver triglycerides compared to control groups. Plasma IgG concentration increased in beef tallow groups(BFS, BFO) than that in other dietary fat groups. Soyoligosaccharides and kinds of fats had effects on plasma C3 concentration and mitogenesis of the spleen cells. Soyoligosaccharides had no effects on plasma leptin and insulin concentration but kinds of fats did so that sesame groups were decreased significantly in plasma leptin concentration but increased significantly in plasma insulin concentration compared to other dietary fat groups. In conclusion dietary soyoligosaccharides changed the composition of the intestinal microflora beneficially with sesame oil and partially had effect on plasma and liver lipid profiles .(Korean J Nutrition 33(6) : 597∼612, 2000)
Fluidity, setting time, hydration heat, bond water ratio, compressive strength, SEM and BET of OPC were measured by adding 1.0 wt% KCl and replacing 20 wt% mineral admixture in order to examine effects of blast furnace slag (BFS), limestone powder (LSP), and fly ash (FA) on fluidity and strength development of the cement contained much chloride. In general, the cement contained much chloride was high in heat of hydration, short in its setting time, low in its fluidity and low in its strength at 28 days due to the rapid hydration in its initial stage. As a result of the experiment, it has been demonstrated that fluidity became improved but the compressive strength at 28 days was decreased as replaced LSP to the cement contained much chloride. the fluidity and compressive strength at 28 days was improved as replaced BFS, the initial compressive strength development was improved due to the activation of initial reaction by KCl. Fluidity, initial compressive strength and late compressive strength at 28 days of cement contained much chloride replaced 5 wt% LSP and 15 wt% BFS concurrently was better than OPC, but the hydration heat was lower.

In this study, quantitative analysis on effect of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of concrete using BFS was studied. Especially, it analyze section data statistically which hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage rise, and it appeared the correlation of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage as well as quantitative coefficients of the main properties. As a result, the section which hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of BFS-50 rise rapidly is delayed than OPC, but the slope of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage in that section appeared similar shape in each mixing. Finally it will be possible to control the amount of autogenous shrinkage because hydration heating velocity and autogenous shrinking velocity are decreased by using BFS.

The surface of particles was energetically modified by inter-grinding OPC and BFS in vibration mill for improvement of the early strength and low-heat evolution of concretes. BFS was pre-grinding in ball-mill to 2535(BS2) and 3245 $cm^2/g$(BS3), in blaine surface area. The inter-grinding time in vibration mill was changed from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. And Mixing ration of BFS to OPC was changed in 60, 70, 80%. After inter-grinding, the change of specific surface area, particle size distribution, hydration heat of cement and compressive strength of mortar were measured. As the result of comparison test with LHC, it was found that the mixture and inter-grinding time satisfying the value of over 100% of compressive strength for 7 days and under 170J/g of heat of hydration for 72 hours. and it was confirmed that the possibility of low heat slag cement utilizing blast furnace slag(BS2, BS3) with the low fineness in high volumes.

Investigating Backward-Facing Step(BFS) flow is important in that it is a representative case for separation flows in various engineering flow systems. There have been a wide range of experimental, theoretical, and numerical studies to investigate the flow characteristics over BFS, such as flow separation, reattachment length and recirculation zone. However, most of such previous studies were concentrated only on the perpendicular step angle. In this study, several numerical investigations on the flow pattern over BFS with various step angles (10° ~ 90°) and expansion ratios (1.48, 2 and 3.27) under different Reynolds numbers (5000 ~ 64000) were carried out, mainly focused on the reattachment length. The numerical simulations were performed using an open source 3D CFD software, OpenFOAM, in which the velocity profiles and turbulence intensities are calculated by RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equation) and 3D LES (Large Eddy Simulation) turbulence models. Overall, it shows a good agreement between simulations and the experimental data by Ruck and Makiola (1993). In comparison with the results obtained from RANS and 3D LES, it was shown that 3D LES model can capture much better and more details on the velocity profiles, turbulence intensities, and reattachment length behind the step for relatively low Reynolds number(Re < 11000) cases. However, the simulation results by both of RANS and 3D LES showed very good agreement with the experimental data for the high Reynolds number cases(Re > 11000). For Re > 11000, the reattachment length is no longer dependent on the Reynolds number, and it tends to be nearly constant for the step angles larger than 30°.) Based on the calibrated and validated numerical simulations, several additional numerical simulations were also conducted with higher Reynolds number and another expansion ratio which were not considered in the experiments by Ruck and Makiola (1993).
The rheological properties of cement paste system mixed with mineral admixtures (MAs) used to increase the strength and improve durability and fluidity of concrete were investigated. And cement paste systems were designed as one-, two- and three-ingredients blended paste systems. The rheological properties of paste systems were assessed by Rotovisco RT 20 rheometer (Hakke inc.) having a cylindrical serrated spindle. The rheological properties of one-ingredient paste systems were improved with increasing the dosage of superplasticizer. For two-ingredients paste systems, as increasing the replacement ratio of blast furnace slag (BFS) and fly ash (FA), the yield stress and plastic viscosity were decreased compared with non-replacement. In the ordinary portland cement (OPC)-silica fume (SF) paste systems, in accordance with an increase in the replacement ratio of SF, the yield stress and plastic viscosity were increased steeply. For three-ingredients paste systems, both OPC-BFS-SF and OPC-FA-SF paste systems, the rheological properties were improved compared with the only replacement of SF. In the case of both two-and three-ingredients paste systems, the rheological properties using BFS were improved more than FA.

This study was conducted to assess the durability of Chloride-inhibiting Low-Heat Cement while being subjected to freezing-thawing during winter seasons. Although durability varies slightly depending on the conditions of the jobsite, frost damage to concrete resulting from repeated freezing and thawing over the course of seasonal changes is the leading cause behind lowered concrete durability. in addition, concrete that has been subjected to freezing and thawing during the winter season develops a significant amount of expansive force at the core and begins to exhibit signs of damage, such as cracking, peeling, and detachment from the aggregate. Therefore, this study fabricated test specimens using a Chloride-inhibiting Low-Heat Cement(CLC) and the widely used blast furnace slag cement(BFS) and Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) with water-to-cement ratios of 35%, 40% and 45%, respectively, to assess the durability index of the CLC as per resistance to freezing-thawing. The specimens were then tested using the KS F 2456 method (Testing method for resistance of concrete to rapid freezing and thawing) to measure the dynamic modulus of elasticity. The dynamic modulus of elasticity measurements were then used to derive the durability indices. By comparing the durability indices, it was confirmed that CLC, BFS, and OPC all had superior durability.

PURPOSE. To characterize the microstructure of three yttria partially stabilized zirconia ceramics and to compare their hardness, indentation fracture resistance (IFR), biaxial flexural strength (BFS), and fatigue flexural strength. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Disc-shaped specimens were obtained from 3Y-TZP (Vita YZ HT), 4Y-PSZ (Vita YZ ST) and 5Y-PSZ (Vita YZ XT), following the ISO 6872/2015 guidelines for BFS testing (final dimensions of 12 mm in diameter, 0.7 and 1.2 ± 0.1 mm in thicknesses). Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were performed, and mechanical properties were assessed by Vickers hardness, IFR, quasi-static BFS and fatigue tests. RESULTS. All ceramics showed similar chemical compositions, but mainly differed in the amount of yttria, which was higher as the amount of cubic phase in the diffractogram (5Y-PSZ > 4Y-PSZ > 3Y-TZP). The 4Y- and 5Y-PSZ specimens showed surface defects under SEM, while 3Y-TZP exhibited greater grain uniformity on the surface. 5Y-PSZ and 3Y-TZP presented the highest hardness values, while 3Y-TZP was higher than 4Y- and 5Y-PSZ with regard to the IFR. The 5Y-PSZ specimen (0.7 and 1.2 mm) showed the worst mechanical performance (fatigue BFS and cycles until failure), while 3Y-TZP and 4Y-PSZ presented statistically similar values, higher than 5Y-PSZ for both thicknesses (0.7 and 1.2 mm). Moreover, 3Y-TZP showed the highest (1.2 mm group) and the lowest (0.7 mm group) degradation percentage, and 5Y-PSZ had higher strength degradation than 4Y-PSZ group. CONCLUSION. Despite the microstructural differences, 4Y-PSZ and 3Y-TZP had similar fatigue behavior regardless of thickness. 5Y-PSZ had the lowest mechanical performance.
The backward-facing step (BFS) is a benchmark geometry for analyzing flow separation occurred at the edge and resulting development of shear layer and recirculation zone that are occupied by turbulent flow. It is important to accurately reproduce and analyze the mean flow and turbulence statistics of such flows to design physically stable and performance assurance structure. We carried out 3D RANS computations with widely used, two representative turbulence models, k-ω SST and RNG k-ε, to reproduce BFS flow at the Reynolds number of 23,000 and the Froude number of 0.22. The performance of RANS computations is evaluated by comparing numerical results with an experimental measurement. Both RANS computations with two turbulence models appear to reasonably well reproduce mean flow in the shear layer and recirculation zone, while RNG k-ε computation results in about 5% larger velocity between the outer edge of boundary layer and the free surface above the recirculation zone than k-ω SST computation and experiment. Both turbulence models underestimate the shear stress distribution experimentally observed just downstream of the sharp edge of BFS, while shear stresses computed in the boundary layer downstream of reattachment point are agree reasonably well with experimental measurement. RNG k-ε modeling reproduces better shear stress distribution along the bottom boundary layer, but overestimates shear shear stress in the approaching boundary layer and above the bottom boundary layer downstream of the BFS.
