Nano-Granular Co-Fe-AI-O Soft Ferromagnetic Thin Films for GHz Magnetic Device Applications

  • Co-Fe-Al-O nanogranular thin films were fabricated by RF-magnetron sputtering under an $Ar+O_2$ atmosphere. High resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed that the Co-Fe-Al-O films are composed of bcc (Co, Fe) nanograins finer than 5 nm and an Al-O amorphous phase. A very large electrical resistivity of $374{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ was obtained, together with a large uniaxial anisotropy field of 50 Oe, a hard axis coercivity of 1.25 Oe, and a saturation magnetization of 12.9 kG. The actual part of the relative permeability was measured to be 260 at low frequencies and this value was maintained up to 1.3 GHz. The ferromagnetic resonance frequency was 2.24 GHz. The resulting Co-Fe-Al-O nanogranular thin films with a high electrical resistivity and high resonance frequency are considered to be suitable for GHz magnetic device applications.

Chemical Leaching of Non-Equilibrium Al(Fe-Co) Powder Produced by Rod Milling

  • We report on the formation and chemical leaching of non-equilibrium $Al_{0.6}(Fe_{75}Co_{25})$ alloy produced by rod milling. X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry were used to characterize the as-milled and leached specimens. After 400 h, only the $Al_{0.4}Fe_{0.6}$ peak of the body-centered cubic type was present in the XRD pattern. The entire rod milling process could be divided into three different stages of milling: agglomeration, disintegration, and homogenization. The saturation magnetization, $M_s$ decreased with increased milling time, the $M_s$ of the powders before milling was about 113.8 emu/g, the $M_s$ after milling for 400 h was about 11.55 emu/g. Leaching of the Al in KOH of the Al at room temperature from the as-milled powders did not induce any significant change in the diffraction pattern. After the leached specimen had been annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, the nanoscale crystalline phases were transformed into the bcc Fe, cubic Co, and $CoFe_2O_4$ phases. On cooling the specimen from 85$0^{\circ}C$, the degree of magnetization increased slightly, then increased sharply at approximately 364.8$^{\circ}C$, indicating that the bcc $Al_{0.4}Fe_{0.6}$ phase had been transformed to the Fe and Co phases.

  • It is reported that $\varepsilon$ (HCP) and $\gamma$ (FCC) phases of a Fe-17Mn alloy transform to $\alpha'$ phase, which has BCC structure, under a deformation condition. In this study, we investigated the effect of strain-induced-transformed $\alpha'$ phase on sliding wear of the Fe-17Mn alloy that originally had e and y phases. Wear tests of the materials were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester at various loads of 0.5N-50N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.38m/s against glass $(83\%\;SiO_2)$ beads. The sliding distance and radius were loom and 9 mm, respectively. Wear rate of the Fe-17Mn alloy was calculated by dividing the weight loss, measured to the accuracy of $10^{-5}g$ by the measured specific gravity and sliding distance. Worn surface and wear debris of the specimens were examined using an SEM and XRD. During the wear, $\alpha'$ phase of BCC structure was formed by strain-induced transformation when the applied wear load exceeded critical values. The $\alpha'$ phase formed by the strain induced transformation increased the wear rate of the Fe-17Mn alloy.

Epitaxial Growth of MgO and CoFe/MgO on Ge(001) Substrates by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

  • We report the epitaxial growth of MgO and CoFe/MgO on Ge (001) substrates using molecular beam epitaxy. It was found that the epitaxial growth of a MgO film on Ge could be realized at a low growth temperature of $125{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ and the MgO matches the Ge with a cell ratio of $\sqrt{2}$:1 which renders MgO rotated by $45^{\circ}$ relative to Ge. In-situ and ex-situ structural characterizations reveal the epitaxial crystal growth of bcc CoFe/MgO on Ge with the in-plane crystallographic relationship of CoFe(001)[100] || MgO(001)[110] || Ge(001)[100], exhibiting sharp interfaces in the (001) matching planes. The saturation magnetization of the sample is $1430{\pm}20$ emu/cc, which is comparable to the value of bulk CoFe.

DEA결합모형을 활용한 아세안(ASEAN)지역 항만의 효율성 분석 (Efficiency Analysis of ASEAN Ports Using DEA & Shannon's Entropy)

  • 아세안(ASEAN) 국가 총 컨테이너 처리량은 경제발전에 따라 계속해서 증가할 것으로 전망된다. 하지만, 증가하는 물동량 대비 아세안(ASEAN) 국가 대부분의 항만인프라는 아직 미비한 수준이다. 세계은행 보고서에 따르면 싱가포르와 말레이시아를 제외한 항만들은 항만인프라 순위에서 낮은 순위를 기록하고 있다. 아세안(ASEAN) 항만개발사업 참여는 아세안(ASEAN) 국가의 항만인프라를 개선하여 물류효율성을 증가시켜 우리나라와의 무역 활성화로 이어질 수 있다. 또한 우리나라 정부와 기업이 항만개발사업에 진출하여 우리나라 항만 관련 산업을 활성화시킬 수 있다. 항만효율성 측정은 이러한 항만개발 및 계획수립에 기초자료로 활용하기에 본 연구에서는 아세안(ASEAN) 항만 효율성 분석을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 여러 모형 중 가장 효율적인 DEA모형을 알 수 없다는 한계점을 극복하고자, DEA와 Shannon's Entropy를 결합한 모형을 활용하여 아세안(ASEAN) 항만의 효율성을 측정하였다. CCR, 투입기준 BCC, 산출기준 BCC, SBM 모형 등 네 개의 모형의 가중치를 구한 뒤에 가중치를 고려하여 항만별 효율성을 측정하였다. 결과적으로 세계 주요 항만인 싱가포르, 말레이시아 항만의 효율성이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 물동량 증가율이 가장 높은 베트남의 항만효율성은 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타나, 항만개발이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 태국의 림차방(Leam Chabang), 베트남의 호치민(Ho Chi Minh City), 인도네시아 탄중 프리옥(Tanjung Priok)항만은 물동량 처리실적과 효율성이 역의 관계로 나타나 경쟁력 유지를 위해서는 효율성 개선이 필요 한 것으로 보인다. 캄보디아, 미얀마, 브루나이 등 아직 경제발전이 미숙한 항만은 경제발전을 위해서라도 인프라 확장을 위주로 하는 항만개발이 필요한 것으로 분석되었다.

Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 하이엔트로피 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 밀링 시간의 영향 (Effect of Milling Time on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 High Entropy Alloy)

  • In this study, we report the microstructure and characterization of Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 high-entropy alloy powders and sintered samples. The effects of milling time on the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated in detail. Microstructure and structural characterization were performed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The mechanical properties of the sintered samples were analyzed through a compressive test at room temperature with a strain rate of 1 × 10-4 s-1. The microstructure of sintered Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 high-entropy alloy is composed of a BCC phase and a TiO phase. A better combination of compressive strength and strain was achieved by using prealloyed Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 powder with low oxygen content. The results suggest that the oxide formed during the sintering process affects the mechanical properties of Ta20Nb20V20W20Ti20 high-entropy alloys, which are related to the interfacial stability between the BCC matrix and TiO phase.

Mn Thin Film on $BaTiO_3$ Substrate: Modified Electrical and Magnetic Properties

  • Magnetic properties of 3d transition metals were determined by exchange interaction between magnetic ions that was characterized by the exchange integral. Bulk Mn material is one of transition metals that have been well known as an anti-ferromagnetic material due to an anti-parallel spin with negative exchange integral. Here we report on the MBE growth of Mn on $BaTiO_3$ (001) substrate and induced ferromagnetism. The bcc ${\alpha}$-Mn single crystal film has been grown on $BaTiO_3$ (100) substrate. The XRD and Raman results indicated that the structural phase transitions of $BaTiO_3$ substrate induced a lattice distortion at the interface. Consequently, the grown Mn film exhibits ferromagnetism with strong saturation magnetization of 495 emu/$cm^3$ at 320 K. The electrical resistivity of the Mn film strongly depended on the crystal structure of $BaTiO_3$ substrate.

비대칭 마그네트론 스퍼터링법에 의해 합성된 STR304 스테인리스강 박막에서의 질소와 산소의 첨가 효가 (Effect of $N_2$ and $O_2$ Properties of STS304 Stainless Steel Films Synthesized by Unbalanced Magnetron Sputtering Process)

  • N- or O-doped STS304 stainless films were synthesized by an unbalanced magnetron sputtering process with various argon and reactive gas ($N_2$, $O_2$) mixtures. These films were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and Knoop microhardness tester. The Results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that a STS304 stainless steel film synthesized without reactive gas using a bulk STS304 stainless steel target had a ferrite bcc structure ($\alpha$ phase), while the N-doped STS304 stainless film was consisted of a nitrogen supersaturated fcc structure, which hsa a strong ${\gamma}$(200) phase. In the O-doped films, oxide Phases ($Fe_2$$O_3$ and $Cr_2$$O_3$) were observed from the films synthesized under an excess $O_2$ flow rate of 9sccm. AES analysis showed that nitrogen content in N-doped films increased as the nitrogen flow rate increased. Approximately 43 at.%N in the N-doped film was measured using a nitrogen flow rate of 8sccm. In O-doped film, approximately 15 at.%O was detected using a $O_2$ flow rate of 12sccm. the Knoop microhardness value of N-doped film using a nitrogen flow rate of 8 sccm was measured to be approximately $H_{ k}$ 1200 and this high value could be attributed to the fine grain size and increased residual stress in the N-doped film.

Relationships between Skin Cancers and Blood Groups - Link between Non-melanomas and ABO/Rh Factors

  • Background: This investigation focused on possible relationships between skin cancers and ABO/Rh blood groups. Materials and Methods: Between January 2005 and December 2012, medical data of 255 patients with skin cancers who were admitted to Kayseri Training and Research Hospital, Radiation Oncology and Plastic Surgery Outpatient Clinics were retrospectively analyzed. Blood groups of these patients were recorded. The control group consisted of 25701 healthy volunteers who were admitted to Kayseri Training and Research Hospital, Blood Donation Center between January 2010 and December 2011. The distribution of the blood groups of the patients with skin cancers was compared to the distribution of ABO/Rh blood groups of healthy controls. The association of the histopathological subtypes of skin cancer with the blood groups was also investigated. Results: Of the patients, 50.2% had A type, 26.3% had O type, 16.1% had B type, and 7.5% had AB blood group with a positive Rh (+) in 77.3%. Of the controls, 44.3% had A type, 31.5% had 0 type, 16.1% had B type, and 8.1% had AB blood group with a positive Rh (+) in 87.8%. There was a statistically significant difference in the distribution of blood groups and Rh factors (A Rh (-) and 0 Rh positive) between the patients and controls. A total of 36.8% and 20.4% of the patients with basal cell carcinoma (BCC) had A Rh (+) and B Rh (+), respectively, while 39.2% and 27.6% of the controls had A Rh (+) and B Rh (+), respectively. A significant relationship was observed between the patients with BCC and controls in terms of A Rh (-) (p=0.001). Conclusion: Our study results demonstrated that there is a significant relationship between non-melanoma skin cancer and ABO/Rh factors.

DEA 모형을 이용한 TV홈쇼핑기업의 상대적 효율성 연구 (Efficiency Analysis for TV Home Shopping Companies Using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis))

  • Purpose - The method of TV home shopping is a kind of retail method that provides the viewer with information about products and, further, sells the products to consumers through the media of television. The domestic home-shopping industry has been expanding since 1995, and there are six companies in this arena as of 2012. In this study, we evaluate the management efficiency of TV home-shopping companies and provide suggestions for improving efficiency, using the DEA (data envelopment analysis) model. Hence, we expect to contribute to the progress of the companies' efficiency and the development of the TV home-shopping industry, where deepening competition is inevitable because it is experiencing the maturing market stage in its life cycle. Research design, data, and methodology - Efficiency is the ratio of the quantity of input to the quantity of output of a product or service. It is necessary to estimate aggregate inputs and aggregate outputs, which are calculated by applying a weighting to a number of input and output factors, to measure the efficiency. The DEA model is divided into the CCR model and the BCC model. The CCR model is a basic model that assumed constant returns to scale (CRS), and the BCC model extends the CCR model to accommodate technologies exhibiting variable returns to scale (VRS), and concerns only the technical efficiency without considering the efficiency of returns to scale. In this study, we consider six companies each year from 2008 to 2012 as a DMU (Decision Making Unit) and analyze the differences in efficiency for each company in each year. Furthermore, we evaluate the operating characteristics of TV home-shopping companies, using three models, in accordance with the overall performance, profitability, and marketability of the business. Results - The result of the analysis, using DEA models, shows that Hyundai Home Shopping (2009, 2010, 2011), GS Home Shopping (2011), NS Home Shopping (2011) and CJ O Shopping (2012) possess MPSS (most productive scale size), with a score 1.0 in CCR, BCC, and scale efficiency. Particularly, Hyundai Home Shopping is shown to be the most efficient in terms of overall business performance, marketability, and profitability. The overall efficiency of the home shopping industry has displayed an increasing trend since 2008, even though it decreased marginally in 2012; further, we can observe that home shopping companies operate with increasing efficiency with the passage of time. Conclusions - Home shopping companies have focused on market expansion rather than profits, as they displayed better efficiency in marketability than increase in profitability during the period 2008-2012. In addition, the main reason for the increased efficiency in the home shopping industry is the market expansion through the revenue increase of each home shopping company. This study can be used as a reference when home shopping companies attempt to devise future strategies, as it suggests efficiency benchmarks and development levels for each home shopping company.
