  • The purpose of this study was to gauge customers' satisfaction with the hospital, university, factory, and office foodservices from a contracted provider. Importance-performance analysis (IPA) evaluations were conducted. Questionnaires were returned from 1,808 customers in 46 foodservice locations. The average total scores of the importance and performance of seventeen quality characteristics were 4.14 and 3.23, respectively, on 5-point scales. The average total score of gap (gap = performance - importance) was -0.92. Analysis of significant difference according to the type of foodservices revealed that, hospital foodservices had more items with significant high scores than those of other groups in the average total scores concerning importance (p<0.01) and performance (p<0.01). The average total scores of gap showed no significant difference. Significant differences were evident in the food and personal service dimensions, and the scores of hospital foodservices trended significantly higher than those of other groups. Importance-performance analysis (IPA) analyses for hospital foodservice implicate 'variety of menu', 'cleanness of dishes', and 'taste of food' as items requiring prompt attention and improvement.

  • Recently, researchers show growing interest on product quality characteristic dependence and designing acceptance sampling plans under the quality dependence. This research intends to resolve a few theoretical and practical questions for better application of acceptance sampling when the quality characteristic of product items exhibits a statistical dependence and samples are inspected according to the production order. In this research, a mathematical programming model is developed for the economic modeling of sampling plans based on two evaluation criteria : the average outgoing quality(AOQ) and the average total inspection cost. An efficient solution procedure is then proposed using the functional structure of the two evaluation criteria and the procedure is numerically illustrated.

  • Owing to the rapid growth in automated manufacturing systems, screening inspection becomes an attractive practice for removing nonconforming items, and it has been suggested that inspection will essentially become an inherent part of modem manufacturing processes. In this paper, we propose rectifying screening inspections which allow quality practitioners to use performance and surrogate variables interchangeably in real-time applications. Two screening inspections are considered; a statistically-based screening inspection to reduce the current proportion of nonconforming items to a specified AOQ(average outgoing quality) after screening, and an economically-based screening inspection where the tolerance limit is determined so that the expected total cost is minimized. It is assumed that the performance variable and the surrogate variable are jointly normally distributed. For two screening inspections, methods of finding the optimal solutions are presented and numerical examples are also given.

  • A total of 100 seafoods commonly consumed in Gyeonggi-do were investigated to determine the concentration of lead (Pb), total mercury (Hg), methyl mercury (MeHg), cadmium (Cd) and selenium (Se). Concentration of heavy metals and selenium was measured by using mercury analyzer, ICP-MS and GC-ECD. The average content (mg/kg) of heavy metals in the seafood samples was as follows; Pb 0.0915 (0.0021-0.4490), Cd 0.0084 (ND-0.1773), and Hg 0.0412 (0.0013-0.3032). All the levels were below the recommended standards of the MFDS in Pb (0.5 mg/kg), Cd (0.2 mg/kg), Hg (0.5 mg/kg). The methylmercury was detected in the hairtail (0.0677 mg/kg) and cod (0.2941 mg/kg). After the average content of heavy metals in seafood was determined, the exposure assessment for heavy metals was conducted. Relative hazardous levels compared to PTWI were lower than the official standards of the JECFA for Pb (0.97%), Hg (3.42%) Cd (0.45%). In conclusion, the levels presented in this study are presumed to be safe for consumption.

  • Purpose: To obtain fundamental data on selection tools for an internal audit and develop a new guideline. We scored the indicated points from the internal audit, identified the research progress and problems that occurred, and confirmed the validity of the risk factors involved. Methods: Of the 63 internal audits conducted by Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital from 2014 to 2021, we analyzed 55 clinical trials with an inspection checklist. We excluded 8 that failed to transfer data and refused to comply with the internal audit. The statistical summary of the collected data was verified and interpreted by using frequency analysis and a chi-square test. Result: Of total 55 cases included in the internal audit, sponsor-initiated trial (SIT) was 63.6% (vs. investigator-initiated trial [IIT]), clinical trial for investigational drug was 71.0% (vs. nonclinical or clinical trial for investigational device), domestic multicenter trial was 60.0% (vs. single center or multinational multicenter trial), and trial requisition for MFDS approval was 69.1% (vs. exception for MFDS approval). The 10 areas of the clinical trial inspection checklist (reports, protection of subjects, compliance with protocols, records, management of investigational drug and/or device, delegation of duties, qualification of investigators, management of specimen, contract-agreement and approval of protocols, and preservation of recorded documents) were weighted between 2 to 5 points. The average of the total points was 16.09±13.2 and 20 clinical trials were above the average. As a result of comparing the average of the total points weighted by year, the highest score was in 2020. The 4 factors that play significant roles in determining the internal quality were (1) principal subjects that initiated the clinical trials (p=0.049), (2) type (p=0.003), (3) phase of clinical trials (p=0.024), and (4) number of registered subjects reported at the time of continuing deliberation (p=0.019). Of the 10 areas of the clinical trial inspection checklist, 'record' was the most inappropriate and insufficient. We found more indicated points; the quality of performance declined in IIT, nonclinical trials, and other clinical trials that were not in phase I1-IV4, and the study of more than 30 registered subjects at the time of continuing review. Conclusion: If an institution has an internal audit selection tool that reflects the aforementioned risk factors, it will be possible to effectively manage high-risk studies; thereby, contributing to an efficient internal audit and improving the quality of clinical trials.

  • In this paper we consider closed flow line systems with samploing inspections. The total number of parts in the system is assumed to be N. The processings carried out of each station do not always meet the requirement of quality. Therefore, upon completion of its processing at each station, a part is inspected to determine whether the processings meet the requirement of quality or not. We assume that inspection are done on a random basis. If a part is found to be defective by an inspection, it is fed back to the apropriate station. Two different cases will be considered in this study : a three-station flow line system with infinite buffers and a two-station flow line system with finite buffers. For each case, we will develop an exact method to obtain the performance measures such as throughput, machinen utilization, average outgoing quality and manufacturing lead time. For the case of the two-station flow line system ith finite buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using these results, we will try to find an optimal inspection policy which maximizes the expected net profit under a certain cost structure. Although we present the results only for the two or three station flow line system in this paper, the results obtained in this paper can be extended easily to the system which consists of more than two or three stations.

  • The management of defects in barracks facilities is carried out in such a way that defects found by the facility's manager are listed and requested to be repaired by the contractor. However, the standards and methods for the inspection of defects in the management of these defects are not specified in detail, so it is difficult to check the defects in detail. In response, the study first analyzed the current status of the number of defects that occurred in 2021 at official residences and barracks of certain units. As a result of the analysis, the number of defects that were not taken care of and that were not taken until the previous month was more than 10 cases on average per month. In order to reduce the number of such defects, major improvements in the field, timing, and safety inspection were found after the inspection of the military's facilities and safety, and the analysis of the manual of maintenance management. In addition, items for improvement of the checklist were derived through an analysis of the repair of defects caused by the unit's official residence and a total of 10 barracks facilities. Based on this, a checklist was proposed to manage defects in barracks facilities through interviews with military facility managers.
