An experiment was conducted to compare the 1% safranine solution flow depth in radial and longitudinal direction of Prunus sargentii. Longitudinal flow of safranine solution was found higher than radial flow. Body ray parenchyma was found more permeable than marginal ray parenchyma and it was about 1.3 times higher. Intercellular space conducted safranine solution more than ray parenchyma. Vessel was found to be the main avenue for liquid conduction in longitudinal direction. Different anatomical features of ray, vessel and fiber affected the penetration depth of safranine solution. Moreover initial penetration depth was found to be high and thereafter decreased gradually.

The classification of subjects with unknown distribution in a small sample size often involves order-restricted constraints in multivariate parameter setups. Those problems make the optimality of a conventional likelihood ratio based statistical inferences not feasible. Fortunately, Roy (1953) introduced union-intersection principle(UIP) which provides an alternative avenue. Multivariate linear rank statistics along with that principle, yield a considerably appropriate robust testing procedure. Furthermore, conditionally distribution-free test based upon exact permutation theory is used to generate p-values, even in a small sample. Applications of this method are illustrated in a real microarray data example (Lobenhofer et al., 2002).

Let $p$ be an odd prime number and let F be a finite field with $p^m$ elements. We study representations and strict representations of polynomials $M{\in}F$[T] by sums of ($p^r$ + 1)-th powers. A representation $$M=M_1^k+{\cdots}+M_s^k$$ of $M{\in}F$[T] as a sum of $k$-th powers of polynomials is strict if $k$ deg $M_i<k$ + degM.

A catchment modelling system is the summation of the numerous hydrologic, hydraulic and other process models necessary to simulate the response of a catchment to a storm event. Differences between the recorded catchment response and that predicted by a catchment modelling system can arise from structural errors within the catchment modelling system, evaluation errors in the control parameters, or measurement errors in the recorded data being used to assess the reliability of the evaluation of the control parameters. Presented herein is an investigation of the potential measurement errors within the recorded information, which was considered to occur from instrument error in the ultra sonic flow monitor. This investigation was undertaken using three available rating curves at the Musgrave Avenue Stormwater System in Centennial Park, Sydney, developed by Abustan (1997), Water Board (1994), and using Manning's equation.

An experiment was conducted to observe the safranine flow depth in longitudinal direction of Populus tomentiglandulosa. Longitudinal flow of safranine was considered from bottom to top end of the tree. Vessel and wood fiber were considered for the measurement of safranine flow depth. It was found that sapwood conducted safranine 12.25% higher in longitudinal direction compared with heartwood. Vessel was found the main avenue for safranine flow. Vessel conducted safranine 41.94% higher than that of wood fiber. Safranine penetrated through vessel and fiber forming a curved meniscus.

Let p be a prime number. It is known that the order o(r) of a root r of the irreducible polynomial $x^p-x-l$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$ divides $g(p)=\frac{p^p-1}{p-1}$. Samuel Wagstaff recently conjectured that o(r) = g(p) for any prime p. The main object of the paper is to give some subsets S of {1,...,g(p)} that do not contain o(r).

Inflammasomes are intracellular multiprotein complexes that coordinate anti-pathogenic host defense during inflammatory responses in myeloid cells, especially macrophages. Inflammasome activation leads to activation of caspase-1, resulting in the induction of pyroptosis and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$ and IL-18. Although the inflammatory response is an innate host defense mechanism, chronic inflammation is the main cause of rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and $Sj{\ddot{o}}gren^{\prime}s$ syndrome (SS). Since rheumatic diseases are inflammatory/autoimmune disorders, it is reasonable to hypothesize that inflammasomes activated during the inflammatory response play a pivotal role in development and progression of these diseases. Indeed, previous studies have provided important observations that inflammasomes are actively involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory/autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on several types of inflammasomes during macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses and discuss recent research regarding the role of inflammasomes in the pathogenesis of inflammatory/autoimmune rheumatic diseases. This avenue of research could provide new insights for the development of promising therapeutics to treat inflammatory/autoimmune rheumatic diseases.

This paper proposes an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform for the forward link of a fixed broadband satellite system. We focus on the synchronization tasks in the receiver. Our objective is to minimize the required overhead, in order to improve the spectral efficiency with regard to a single carrier waveform system. A non pilot aided algorithm is used for fine synchronization. It is preceded by a coarse synchronization stage, which relies on a limited overhead (short cyclic prefix associated to some pilots). The performance of the proposed receiver is assessed through simulation results.

IT capability is one of the main research topics in MIS area. Given the finding that IT investment does not necessarily contribute to better organizational performance, the concept of IT capability was selected as an alternative antecedent variable for IT's effect on performance. A number of existing MIS papers have shown that firms with the high level of IT capability lead to a better performance. However, very little research has been done concerning the issue of how the IT capability could be enhanced. Recently, enterprise architecture effort has been emerged as an avenue to better IT management. This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between EA effort and IT capability.

Dialogic reading program is designed to involve children actively during shared reading and to provide a rich avenue for language development. The present study is to examine the effects of the modified dialogic reading program on parent-child interactions in parents of children with developmental language delays. six children with developmental language delays and their parents were participated. This 4 week program was composed of three group sessions and one individual feedback session. Parent-child interactions were videotaped before and after the program. As a result, all six parents showed increase in positive behaviors during the interaction after completing the program. And negative behaviors were partly decreased. These results were discussed in conclusions.
