Numerical Evaluation of CO Gas Distribution in Underground Parking Lot (지하주차장 내부 일산화탄소 가스 분포의 전산 해석적 평가)

  • Numerical estimation for concentration of mono-carbon oxygen (CO) gas inside an underground parking lot with auxiliary jet fans for enhancement of ventilation is carried out by using a commercial program. Main interest lies on the diagnosis of the present ventilation system including position and selection of auxiliarly fans in addition to main suppliers and exhausts. Details of both flows and concentration of CO gas that is most important component among car exhaust gases are illustrated in this investigation and those are presented for engineering construction of an underground parking pool. Prediction data of computational work is also validated by real measurements of concentration of CO gas.

  • The nitrogen oxides, NO and NO2, abbreviated usually as NOx, emitted from combustion facilities such as power plants and automobiles are the typical air-pollutants causing acid rain and photochemical smog. In order to solve the NOx-related pollution problems effectively, we need efficient techniques to monitor NOx in the combustion exhausts and in environments. Development of solid-state electrochemical devices for detecting NOx is demonstrated based on various combination of solid electrolytes and auxiliary sensing materials. The object of this research is to develop various sensor performance for solid state amperometric sensor, and to test gas sensor performance manufactured. So we try to present a guidance for developing amperometric gas sensor. We concentrated on development of manufacturing process and performance test.

  • The high efficacy concept, featuring in this study an auxiliary electrode and a 200 ${\mu}m$ coplanar gap, is applied to AC-PDPs with a stripe - type and a closed - type barrier rib, respectively. The roles of the pulses applied to the auxiliary electrode create additional excitation during the sustain period and reduce a discharge current that flows into the display cells. The efficacy of the proposed panel with the closed barrier rib has maximum values when the auxiliary pulse voltage is 50 volts and 80 volts for the Ne+4%Xe and Ne+20%Xe gas-mixtures, respectively. The maximum luminous efficacy is more than 10 lm/W in terms of the measurement of the discharges in VGA resolution ($540{\mu}m{\times}720{\mu}m$) and the green cells.

  • The variations of the positive and negative electrode potentials, and of internal pressure were measured during the charge of the sealed type Ni-Cd cell. Both polarization characteristics of a paste type Cd-electrode as a gas diffusion electrode in 30% KOH solution and the effects of active carbon electrode as an oxygen consuming auxiliary electrode of the Ni-Cd cell on the charging characteristics of the cell were studied. Peak voltage at the end of charge of the cell is ascribed to the peak at the negative electrode potential, which is due to the concentration polarization by the lack of $Cd^{++}$ ion and oxygen concentration. And the recovery of the negative electrode potential is resulted from depolarization by the increasing diffusion limiting current density with the increasing oxygen pressure. The active carbon electrode was effective as an oxygen consuming auxiliary electrode. The internal pressure of the cell could be maintained below 200mmHg even at one hour rate charge and overcharge by the use of active carbon electrode as an auxiliary electrode.

  • It is necessary to install the arc generation facility to obtain the important technology for the design of breakers and switches, and the improvement of their performance and reliability. With this facility it is possible to study the characteristics of Arc in air/gas/vacuum insulation environment. The arc generation facility briefly consists of capacitor bank which can charge enormous energy, an air-core reactor, and several measurement equipments. This facility can simulates the arc phenomena in breakers and switches by means of generating high currents. In order to the protect electrode damage during the arcing time in arc extinguishing chamber, we installed auxiliary current source in addition to main capacitor bank, This auxiliary current source produces relatively small arc between electrodes before high current generation by main capacitor bank. Therefore it is possible to observe and measure the arcing phenomenon without damage of electrodes.

  • Gasification has been regarded as a core technology in dealing with environmental pollutants and in obtaining higher efficiency for power generation. Among several ways in utilizing produced syngas from gasification, power generation would be the most prominent application. Syngas from coal was applied to the readily available LPG engine from automobiles. Main purpose was to identify the combustion characteristics in the modified gas engine when using syngas of low heating value and to test the modification optionsin the LPG gas engine. Gas engine rpm and the corresponding flue gas composition were measured for each syngas input condition. Results showed that even with syngas at the heating value of $1300{\sim}1800$ kcal/$Nm^3$ corresponding to the $6{\sim}7%$ of LPG heating value, gas engine operated successfully only with the problems of high CO and oxygen concentrations in the flue gas.

  • Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is an environment friendly method of using coal. Several commercial IGCC plants have been built worldwide during the past decade, and a domestic development project has also been launched recently. Operation and performance characteristics of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant deviates from those of original gas turbines due to several factors such as increased amount of fuel supply and integration with other components. In this study, performance of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant is analyzed considering its integration with the air separation unit (ASU). Influence of the degree of integration (split of air supplies to ASU from the auxiliary compressor and the gas turbine compressor) on the system performance is investigated. In addition, effect of modulating nitrogen return flow from the gasifier to the gas turbine on the operating characteristics of the gas turbine is examined.

  • The performance of a direct-injection type diesel engine often depends on the shape of combustion chamber, strength of swirl or squish, the number of nozzle holes, etc. This is of course because the process of combustion in the cylinder was affected by the mixture formation process. In this paper, the relation betweeen the flame progress and the performance of engine was clarified by changing variously the combustion process in cylinder with a special method, and thus the measures for improving the combustion were indirectly examined. Namely it was investigated what effect the flame progress in cylinder, which was varied with the locality of the lean premixture injected by the auxiliary injection method using an auxiliary injection nozzle in advance at the place where main spray was injected later, has on the engine output, the exhaust smoke density and the NO concentration in exhaust gas.
