Recently many researches on intelligent robots have been studied. An intelligent robot is capable of recognizing environments or objects to autonomously perform specific tasks using sensor readings. One of fundamental problems in vision-based robot applications is to recognize where it is and to decide safe path to perform autonomous navigation. However, previous approaches only consider well-organized environments that there is no moving object and environment changes. In this paper, we introduce a novel navigation strategy to handle occlusions caused by moving objects using various computer vision techniques. Experimental results demonstrate the capability to overcome such difficulties for autonomous navigation.
In this research, we propose a path-planning algorithm for an autonomous mobile robot using geographical information, under the condition that the robot moves in unknown environment. All image inputted by camera at every sampling time are analyzed and geographical elements are recognized, and the geographical information is embedded in environmental map. The geographical information was transformed into 1-dimensional evaluation value that expressed the difficulty of movement for the robot. The robot goes toward the goal searching for path that minimizes the evaluation value at every sampling time. Then, the path is updated by integrating the exploited information and the prediction on unexploited environment. We used a sensor fusion method for improving the mobile robot dead reckoning accuracy. The experiment results that confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm on the robot's reaching the goal successfully using geographical information are presented.
Collision avoidance is a fundamental and important task of an autonomous mobile robot for safe navigation in real environments with high uncertainty. Obstacles are classified into static and dynamic obstacles. It is difficult to avoid dynamic obstacles because the positions of dynamic obstacles are likely to change at any time. This paper proposes a scheme for vision-based avoidance of dynamic obstacles. This approach extracts object candidates that can be considered moving objects based on the labeling algorithm using depth information. Then it detects moving objects among object candidates using motion vectors. In case the motion vectors are not extracted, it can still detect the moving objects stably through their color information. A robot avoids the dynamic obstacle using the dynamic window approach (DWA) with the object path estimated from the information of the detected obstacles. The DWA is a well known technique for reactive collision avoidance. This paper also proposes an algorithm which autonomously registers the obstacle color. Therefore, a robot can navigate more safely and efficiently with the proposed scheme.
This paper presents an edutainment robot for young children. The edutainment robot called 'Mon-e' has developed by the Central R&D Laboratory at KT. The main services of the Mon-E robot are autonomous moving service, object card and story book telling service and videophone service. The RFID technology was introduced for easy interface to young children. The face of Mon-E robot is mounted with an RFID reader. The RFID tag is pasted on story book and object card. If you approach a book or an object card to the face of Mon-E, the Mon-E robot recognizes the identified code and plays its service. In autonomous moving, if the Mon-E robot meets obstacles, it moves back and turns left or right or half rotation. In videophone service, if young children approach an RFID card to the Mon-E, the Mon-E can make a call to the specific number, which is contained in the RFID card. The developed Mon-E robot has tested in real world environment and is evaluated young children and their parents. In the result of evaluation, the feeling of satisfaction was high to main services of Mon-E robot.

The research and development for autonomous mobile robots has widely been reported. This paper describes a fuzzy logic based visual servoing system for an autonomous mobile robot. An existing system always needs to keep a moving object in overall image. This makes difficult to move the autonomous mobile robot spontaneously. In this paper we first explain an autonomous mobile robot and fuzzy logic system. And then we design a fuzzy logic based visual servoing system. We extract some features of the object from an overall image and then design a fuzzy logic system for controlling the visual servoing system to an exact position. We here introduce a shooting robot that can track an object and hit it. We show that the proposed system presents a desirable performance by a computer simulation and some experiments.
This study presents sensor system for autonomous mobile robot capable of floor-to-floor self-navigation. The robot was modified using the Turtlebot3 hardware platform and ROS2 (robot operating system 2). The robot utilized the Navigation2 package to estimate and calibrate the moving path acquiring a map with SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping). For elevator boarding, ultrasonic sensor data and threshold distance are compared to determine whether the elevator door is open. The current floor information of the elevator is determined using image processing results of the ceiling-fixed camera capturing the elevator LCD (liquid crystal display)/LED (light emitting diode). To realize seamless communication at any spot in the building, the LoRa (long-range) communication module was installed on the self-navigating autonomous mobile robot to support the robot in deciding if the elevator door is open, when to get off the elevator, and how to reach at the destination.
Recently, many vision-based navigation methods have been introduced as an intelligent robot application. However, many of these methods mainly focus on finding an image in the database corresponding to a query image. Thus, if the environment changes, for example, objects moving in the environment, a robot is unlikely to find consistent corresponding points with one of the database images. To solve these problems, we propose a novel navigation strategy which uses fast motion estimation and a practical scene recognition scheme preparing the kidnapping problem, which is defined as the problem of re-localizing a mobile robot after it is undergone an unknown motion or visual occlusion. This algorithm is based on motion estimation by a camera to plan the next movement of a robot and an efficient outlier rejection algorithm for scene recognition. Experimental results demonstrate the capability of the vision-based autonomous navigation against dynamic environments.

According to recent advances in technology, major robot technologies that have been developed and commercialized for industrial use are being applied to various fields in our everyday life such as guide robots and cleaning robots. Among them, the navigation based on the self localization has become an essential element technology of the robot. In the case of indoor environment, many high-priced sensors are used, which makes it difficult to activate the robot industry. In this paper, we propose a robotic platform and a moving algorithm that can travel by using Dijkstra algorithm. The proposed system can find a short route to the destination with its own position. Also, its performance is discussed through the experimentation of an actual robot.
In this paper, We designed the local path planning direction algorithmusing fuzzy controller applied fuzzy logic. Algorithm decieded a direction angle by theposition of obstacle, the distance with obstacle, the progress direction of robot, the speed of vehicles and the perception area of sensor. The robot designed with proposed algorithm carried out soft moving without any particular operation, and we could observe that it had very soft curved moving as if an expert drove.

The exact path following of an autonomous mobile robot in a factory and an unreliable environment has many disadvantages in case of a classical control algorithm. In this paper, a neural network control approach based on an error back propagation algorithm is proposed for controlling a mobile robot to follow a line installed on the road. Since not only the three recognized informations from three sensors attached on a mobile robot but also the ten detailed informations in non recognition area are learned with input patterns, a mobile robot moves smoothly an installed line in spite of non perception space. The mobile robot has an effect of error minimization with a short time till a destination. To test an effectiveness of the proposed controller, the two motor velocity changes which is affected from a moving angle change of a mobile robot are simulated with computer.
