An Analysis of Accident Costs according to Ethical Choice of Autonomous Vehicles (자율주행자동차의 윤리적 선택에 따른 교통사고비용 분석)

  • Autonomous vehicles can significantly reduce accidents due to 'driver's carelessness', which occupies the majority of causes for traffic accidents, but they may fail to avoid traffic accidents due to unexpected situations, such as "trolley dilemma", vehicle defects and road defects. Therefore in situations Autonomous vehicles need to be made ethical choices. This study assumes that Autonomous vehicles can not avoid traffic accidents due to unexpected sink holes. In this situation, the traffic accident costs was analyzed for the ethical choices of Autonomous vehicles. In the process, Autonomous vehicles were made to choose one of three ethical choices : (1) Egoism with priority on passenger safety, (2) Deontology for minimizing human damages, (3) Utilitarianism with minimizing traffic accident costs. As a result of the analysis, egoism had the highest traffic accident costs, and deontology for minimizing human damages had the lowest traffic accident costs.

  • A mathematical model of responsibility-sensitive safety (RSS) has been proposed as a way to determine whether an autonomous driving accident has occurred. Autonomous vehicles related industry and academia have shown great interest in this model. However, this mathematical model lacks a comprehensive review on whether the model can be used to clarify responsibilities of autonomous vehicles in the event of a traffic accident. In this study, we analyzed the issues that need to be solved in order to apply the RSS model. In conclusion, there is a limit in the equation and the social acceptability of the RSS model. To use the RSS model practically, it is necessary to define the response time of the autonomous vehicle and to measure and control the reaction time value according to the appropriate technology level for each autonomous vehicle.

  • To strengthen the security of autonomous vehicles, this study derived checklists through the analysis of the status of autonomous vehicle security. The analyzed statuses include autonomous vehicle characteristics, security threats, and domestic and foreign security standards. The derived checklists are then applied to the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) model to find their relative importance. Relative importance was ranked as one of cyber security management system establishment and implementation, encryption, risk assessment, etc. The significance of this study is to reduce cyber security incidents that cause human casualties as well improve the level of security management of autonomous vehicles in related companies by deriving the autonomous vehicle security level checklists and demonstrating the model. If the inspection is performed considering the relative importance of the checklists, the security level can be identified early.

  • A autonomous vehicle requires improved and robust perception systems than conventional perception systems of intelligent vehicles. In particular, single sensor based perception systems have been widely studied by using cameras and laser radar sensors which are the most representative sensors for perception by providing object information such as distance information and object features. The distance information of the laser radar sensor is used for road environment perception of road structures, vehicles, and pedestrians. The image information of the camera is used for visual recognition such as lanes, crosswalks, and traffic signs. However, single sensor based perception systems suffer from false positives and true negatives which are caused by sensor limitations and road environments. Accordingly, information fusion systems are essentially required to ensure the robustness and stability of perception systems in harsh environments. This paper describes a perception system for autonomous vehicles, which performs information fusion to recognize road environments. Particularly, vision and laser radar sensors are fused together to detect lanes, crosswalks, and obstacles. The proposed perception system was validated on various roads and environmental conditions with an autonomous vehicle.

  • In this paper, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the discrete time nonlinear system to be transformed into observable canonical form by state coordinates change. Unlike the continuous time case, our theorems give the desired state coordinates change without solving partial differential equations. Also, our approach is applicable to both autonomous systems and control systems by slight change of the definition of the vector field.

  • Today, the problem of interrational competition has been strongly appeared and as the deflation is deep occasionally, it is sure that granting autonomous motivation of businessman or importance of self development is proposed especially. There are some men not to be able to talk with, but a businessman should make his surroundings cheerful with granting autonomous motivation. If he understands the men of his surroundings with his positive attitude, all tasks of him will be achieved. Formation of question consciousness that he can study always, is needed on which is the important task in himself.

  • In this paper, we presents the algorithm which is to recognize the traffic sign on the road the traffic signal in a video image for autonomous navigation. First, the rocognition of traffic sign on the road can be detected using boundary point estimation form some scan-lines within the lane deducted. For this algorithm, index matrix method is used to detemine what sign is. Then, the traffic signal recognition is performed by usign the window minified by several scan-lines which position may be expected. For this algoritm, line profile concept is adopted.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that realizes cooperative behavior by construction of autonomous mobile robot system. Each robot is able to sense other robots and obstacles, and it has the rule of behavior to achieve the goal of the system. In this paper, to improve performance of the whole system, we use Genetic Programming based on Natural Selection. Genetic Programming's chromosome is a program of tree structure and it's major operators are crossover and mutation. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme from the several examples.

  • Autonomous mobile robot Yamabico and his newly developed ultrasonic range finding module(URF) are described. Yamabico is a self-contained autonomous robot for in-door environment. It has a modularized architecture, which consists of master module, ultrasonic range finding module, locomotion module, voice synthesizer module and console. Newly developed ultrasonic range finding module has a 68000 processor and Dual-port memory for communication. It controls the ultrasonic transmitters and receivers and calculate the range distances for 12-direction, simultaneously within every 60 milliseconds.

  • Holonic manufacturing system is a new approachto the organization and architecture of decentralized, autonomous and cooperative manufacturing system. The new paradigm combines the concepts of hierarchical systems and the integration of autonomous elements in distributed system. Today's scheduling and control techniques are mostly based on a centralized structure. Only little work has been done on scheduling and control of decentralized, autonomous and cooperative manufacturing system. This paper proposes a new approach IPM(Interactive Prediction Method) for scheduling and control of holonic manufacturing system.
