A Study on the Strategic Implementation and Performance of Factory Automation with Advanced Manufacturing Technology (신생산 기술을 바탕으로 한 공장자동화의 전략적 실행과 성과에 관한 연구)

  • This study is aimed at examining the relationship among the advanced manufacturing technology(AMT) types adopted in Korea, necessary strategic management activities for the selected AMT types and the performance of the AMT introduced. In order to identify such relationship, multivariate analyses are used based on the survey data collected from industry types such as metal processing and assembly, automobile parts, automobile assembly. electric and electronic devices. The study results indicate the following: (1) companies using CIM or ERP tend to be more prepared in terms of human resources; (2) companies adopted CIM and MRPII tend to demonstrate higher performance in terms of both organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency; (3) companies which adopted JIT or ERP perform better in terms of operational efficiency.

  • A automatic production system was developed for high productivity and safety. The semi-progressive die was unfavorable for more productivity, safety, material extravagance and incongruent high-speed production. Developed progressive die is suitable for the high production and guarantee triple production by acceptance of three array type for automobile adjust plate. We adopt Pro-$Engineer{\circledr}$ for three dimensional computer aided design suitable for the disassembly and assembly evaluation. The conclusion of this study is as follow. First, press die parts solid modeling system is built by using Pro-$Engineer{\circledr}$ through this research and verified allowable tolerance and possibility of assembly and disassembly of parts. Therefore we can reduce die manufacturing time and cost. Second, We produce 1000 units pet hot coil 1ton by traditional method, but we can acomplish material saving effect about 12% as 120 units in case of new progressive die. Fourth, we acomplished manufacturing cost curtailment effect more than 20% in comparison with traditional method.

  • Hydroforming Technology has been applied to manufacture in various parts of automobile. Especially, Exhaust manifold has been applied to hydroforming method in the foreign advanced automotive company. Exhaust manifold runner is important exhaust parts that heat-resistant and exhaust flow characteristics are requested in the automobile. The purpose of this study is to optimize the manufacturing method of exhaust maniflold runner using FEA and to propose to get a optimization design direction. In addition, Comparative analysis between conventional exhaust maniflold and hydroformed exhaust maniflold has been done in view of weight-saving, manufacturing advantage.

  • Generally a plastic injection molding is a manufacturing process used to produce the various parts of complicated shape at low cost. The objective of this study is to implement a new plastic injection molding process with inserted Aluminum sheet, which is highly durable, light and luminous. Moldflow analysis and simulation of plastic injection molding process with inserted Aluminum sheet were carried out in order to predict optimal molding operation conditions. The experimental results in the Al-inserted plastic injection molding process were compared with the simulation results by Moldflow. Durability and reliability test results for trial products were satisfied to adopt the Al-inserted plastic injection molding process developed as manufacturing of automobile interior parts.

Numerical Analysis of Cooling Channels for Injection Molding Cycle Time Improvement of Plastic Horn Cover for an Automobile (차량용 플라스틱 혼 커버의 사출성형 싸이클 타임 개선을 위한 냉각 채널의 수치해석 연구)

  • When producing a plastic horn cover for an automobile, since the interval between the ribs on the inner surface is narrow, conventional cooling channels cannot be applied and cooling of the mold is difficult. For this reason, the molding operation cannot be completed within a set cycle time. In this study, a conformal cooling channel was applied on the mold to solve the cooling problem. Injection molding simulation was carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the conformal cooling channel. In the analysis results, the mold temperature at the rib section decreased by 33%, and the mold temperature also decreased by 31%. This reduction in temperature allowed for molding within a set cycle time and demonstrated the effectiveness of the conformal cooling channel.

  • A scattering dust collector in automobile brake pads was investigated in this study. The dust scattering was measured by mounting a booth with a particle counter for both the vehicle-induced wind and brake caliper locations. In addition, the collection effect of the dust scattering was analyzed using the designed dust collector. The results of this study can be used to develop an advanced dust collector and the field test modes for dust scattering in an automotive brake system.

  • Automobile-related industries have been a few of leading ones among domestic industries reporting high rates of musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD's). In this paper, major ergonomic aspects of automobile-related works were reviewed with reference to WMSD's. According to the result, high repeatability of works with as short as 1 minute or less, awkward postures required, excessive forces, and vibrations due to power tools were drawn out as major physical factors. To eliminate or mitigate those factors - at least in automobile-related industries - ergonomic approach has tried for more than a decade. With all, however, ergonomists still seem to confront with several problems to be solved such as development of appropriate assessment tools, enhancement of work improvement activities, system establishment for continuous prevention and management of WMSD's. As lots of previous researches declared, it was concluded that ergonomic approach would collaborate with other approaches such as ndustrial medicine considering physical factors as well as psychosocial factors, and that the necessity of an integrated Occupational Safety and Health Management System(OHSMS) was mentioned.

  • The extremely strong competition among the world automobile industries has introduced the concept of PLM in the total production activities, one of whose major components is VM(Virtual Manufacturing). If the production lines are equipped with robots, the application of OLP in the virtual space is fully mature. However, in the point of the investment's and the maintenance's view, there are always some activities, which can not be automated: for example, typically the manual welding for prefixing in the automobile body shop and the material loading. Process planning for these activities, therefore, are decided mainly by experiences, which caused many repeated rework of the processes and the inconvenience of the workers, and resulted consequently in the reduction of the productivity and the safety of the workers. In this paper, the optimal dimension of the welding gun and its handle position and the optimal working path is simulated and decided by use of DELIMN/IGRIP and DELMIA/Ergo and the working area modelized in the virtual workcell of DELMIA.
