  • Binary CDMA is a new standard technology for wireless communication developed by our country that makes high speed communications and good quality of services for multimedia data such as voice and video. In this paper we researched the design and implementation of a wireless Video Transmitter and Video Server - the main devices for the Automobile Wireless Camera System - based on the Binary-CDMA technology that makes them freely installed in any place without wired cables restriction.

  • Many automobile manufacturers are doing experiment on manufacturing environments by using an augmented reality technology. However, system layout and process simulation by using the virtual reality technology have been performed actively more than by using the augmented reality technology in practical use so far. Existing automobile assembly by using the augmented reality requires the precise calibrating work after setting the robot because the existing augmented reality system for the automobile assembly system configuration does not include the end tip deflection and the robot joints deflection due to the heavy weight of product and gripper. Because the robot is used mostly at the automobile assembly, the deflection problem of the robot joint and the product in the existing augmented reality system need to be improved. Moreover camera lens calibration has to be performed precisely to use augmented reality. In order to improve this problem, this paper introduces a method of the software based calibration to apply the augmented reality effectively to the automobile assembly system. On the other hand, the camera lens calibration module and the direct compensation module of the virtual object displacement for the augmented reality were designed and implemented. Furthermore, the developed automobile assembly system oriented AR-system was verified by the practical test.

  • In this paper, We Propose the automobile license plate extraction method using Discrete Cosin Transform and Correlation fem automobile image obtained through digital camera. The automobile license plate is consisted of the character and rectangle background of it. We extracted the automobile edge image by the DCT processing of automobile image and Obtained the automobile license plate from the automobile edge image by Correlation processing. We separated characters from automobile license plate using the projection histogram. Compare to the previous methods, we obtained the good result from extracting the automobile license plate at night, very strong light and bad weather.

  • In this paper, sensor system and inspection algorithm in order to inspect steel balance weight for automobile is described. Steel balance weight is composed of clip and weight, which is joined by press process. The defective one has a gap between clip and weight. To detect whether there is a gap, sensor system is simply configured with laser line projector and USB camera, which make it possible to measure the height difference of clip and weight area. Laser line pattern which is made on the surface of a balance weight is captured by USB camera. In case that USB camera is used in machine vision, barrel distortion caused by wide angle lens makes the captured image distorted. Image warping function is applied to correct the distortion. Simple image processing algorithm is applied to extract the laser line information and whether it is good or not is judged through the extracted information.

  • This paper proposes a license-plate recognition algorithm for automobile black-box image which is obtained from the camera moving with the automobile. The algorithm intends to increase the overall recognition-rate of the license-plate by increasing the Korean character recognition-rate using multi-stage neural network for automobile black-box image where there are many movements of the camera and variations of light intensity. The proposed algorithm separately recognizes the vowel and consonant of Korean characters of automobile license-plate. First, the first-stage neural network recognizes the vowels, and the recognized vowels are classified as vertical-vowels('ㅏ','ㅓ') and horizontal-vowels('ㅗ','ㅜ'). Then the consonant is classified by the second-stage neural networks for each vowel group. The simulation for automobile license-plate recognition is performed for the image obtained by a real black-box system, and the simulation results show the proposed algorithm provides the higher recognition-rate than the existing algorithms using a neural network.

  • This paper proposes a method for rejecting false matches in automobile rear view camera image sequences. Our method consists of two submethods which utilize the motion characteristics of an automobile. One is for a straight motion and the other is for a curve motion. First, we classify an image sequence into a straight motion or a curve motion and then apply an appropriate submethod. Our method works in cases where the percentage of true matches is as low as 30%.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for rejecting mismatched points (known as outliers). The proposed algorithm identifies and rejects outliers in image pairs obtained under automobile-like motions which consist of two translations and one rotation. The camera rotation is approximated to the image shift by assuming that the narrow field of lens is used. The voting method estimates the focus of expansion (FOE) while shifting one of the images. Using the properties of the FOE, the outliers are rejected while most of the inliers are retained.

  • Internal flow characteristics for an automobile HVAC have been investigated using a high-resolution PIV technique. The PIV system consists of a 2-head Nd:YAG laser(125 mJ), a high-resolution CCD camera($2K\;{\times}\;2K$), optics and a synchronizer. An automobile HVAC module was used directly. Only the casing was remodeled transparently for capturing flow image and laser sheet beam illumination. Time-averaged velocity field were measured in three temperature control mode.   • Air flow of inside automobile HVAC module has been visualized using a high-resolution PIV technique with varying the temperature operation mode. The PIV system consists of a 2-head Nd:YAG laser(125 mJ), a high-resolution CCD camera(2K x 2K), optics and a synchronizer. A real automobile HVAC module was used directly with slight modification for clear optical windows. Some parts of the HVAC module casing were replaced with transparent windows for capturing flow images with laser light sheet beam illumination. Time-averaged velocity field were measured in three temperature control modes. Flow characteristics of the air-conditioned air flow in the automobile HVAC system were evaluated.

  • Recently, automobile industries have developed ADAS, smart cars, connected cars, automated driving systems, which use a variety of sensor systems - ultrasonics, cameras, lidars and radars - and communication systems. It is necessary to examine the electromagnetic immunity of vehicles equipped with the sensor systems due to the fact that the normal operation of those systems is very important to the safety of the vehicles. The electromagnetic immunity tests are carried out in an electromagnetic semi anechoic chamber, which is cut off from the outside. It is difficult to create test environments in which the camera sensor systems of vehicles work properly in the test chamber. In this study, test jigs were designed and tested and as a result they are shown to be effective to create test environments for electromagnetic immunity tests of vehicles equipped with camera sensors. We also proposed additional safety standards for immunity tests of vehicles with camera systems that currently do not exist.
