Precise construction cost estimation is paramount to determining the total construction expense of a project prior to the initiation of the construction phase. Despite this, manual quantification and cost estimation methods, which continue to be widely used, may result in imprecise estimation and subsequent financial loss. Given the fast-paced and efficiency-demanding nature of the construction industry, trustworthy quantity and cost estimation is essential. To mitigate these obstacles, this research is focused on establishing an automated quantity estimation algorithm, particularly designed for the main rebar of beams which are recognized for their complicated reinforcement configurations. The exact quantity derived from the proposed algorithm is compared to the manually approximated quantity, reflecting a variance of 10.27%. As a result, significant errors and impending financial loss can be averted. The implementation of the findings from this research holds the potential to significantly assist construction firms in quickly and accurately estimating rebar quantities while adhering strictly to applicable specifications and regulatory requirements.

It is known that to automate the quantity take-off process enables you to increase the productivity best among the construction business field. However, the limitation of 2D(Two-dimension) CAD System prevented a cost-estimating system which makes the great effects on the quantity take-off process from being developed. This study aims that you can automate both the itemized statements and the quantity take-off process by using commercially available object-oriented CAD system. The commercially available CAD system today does not give us entire satisfaction. This study shows the deduction of the old boundaries of the object-oriented CAD system and the solution of those problems. And it also studied about the quantity take-off process and the automated cost-estimating system that can be used in the simple and plain repair-maintenance work such as the execution drawing which doesn't need the complicated drawings.

Manual estimation of rebar quantities by contractors often yields discrepancies between projected and actual amounts used in the construction phase, leading to cost inaccuracies and potential logistical challenges. To address these issues, there is a clear need for a method that allows precise estimation of rebar quantities during the design phase. Such a method would enhance contractor competitiveness during project bids, promote accurate cost calculations, and avert superfluous rebar purchases on-site. Given that columns are the primary structural components in reinforced concrete(RC) buildings and necessitate considerable amounts of rebar, this study focuses on creating an automated algorithm for estimating column rebar quantities. An analysis of the accurate quantities obtained via the study and those derived from manual estimation reveals a discrepancy of 0.346 tons or 2.056%. This comparison affirms the proposed algorithm's efficacy in eliminating errors from overestimation or underestimation of rebar quantities. The practical implications of this study are significant for construction companies as it fosters efficient and precise estimation of rebar quantities, ensuring compliance with related specifications and governing regulations.

Nowadays, the construction industry utilizes 3D models in the designing process, on which research is being conducted to establish an automated system for project cost estimation in connection with information related to construction such as material unit costs and wages, beyond the level of design interference review and construction quantity estimation. In this process, the project cost is estimated in connection with unit price data after takeoff the quantity based on the 3D model attributes and data types. A way to reduce cost and risk would be first developing prototypes of some of essential buildings and works, comparing and validating the outcomes, and then extending to the whole scope, because estimates differ on the basis of the scope and level of 3D design models as well as the data accuracy. This study analyzes case studies of project cost estimation by computing the quantity on the basis of 3D model in the construction industry and explores methodologies and management measures applicable for estimating nuclear power plant construction project costs.

Social movements to improve the performance of buildings through remodeling of aging apartment houses are being captured. To this end, the remodeling construction cost analysis, structural analysis, and political institutional review have been conducted to suggest ways to activate the remodeling. However, although the method of analyzing construction cost for remodeling apartment houses is currently being proposed for research purposes, there are limitations in practical application possibilities. Specifically, In order to be used practically, it is applicable to cases that have already been completed or in progress, but cases that will occur in the future are also used for construction cost analysis, so the sustainability of the analysis method is lacking. For the purpose of this, we would like to suggest an automated estimating method. For the sustainability of construction cost estimates, Deep-Learning was introduced in the estimating procedure. Specifically, a method for automatically finding the relationship between design elements, work types, and cost increase factors that can occur in apartment remodeling was presented. In addition, Monte Carlo Simulation was included in the estimation procedure to compensate for the lack of uncertainty, which is the inherent limitation of the Deep Learning-based estimation. In order to present higher accuracy as cases are accumulated, a method of calculating higher accuracy by comparing the estimate result with the existing accumulated data was also suggested. In order to validate the sustainability of the automated estimates proposed in this study, 13 cases of learning procedures and an additional 2 cases of cumulative procedures were performed. As a result, a new construction cost estimating procedure was automatically presented that reflects the characteristics of the two additional projects. In this study, the method of estimate estimate was used using 15 cases, If the cases are accumulated and reflected, the effect of this study is expected to increase.

This paper discusses a method of determining the optimal design of a block. A horizontal layout of blocks is assumed in which transfer points are located at a side of the block. Each block has several transfer points (TPs) each of which is assigned to a group of adjacent bays and located at the center of the assigned group. The goal is to find the optimal size of a block and the optimal number of TPs while minimizing the total cost consisting of the fixed and operational cost of yard cranes (YCs), the operational cost of internal trucks, and the installation cost of TPs. Constraints on the maximum expected system time of trucks are imposed for the optimization. Formulas for estimating handling operation cycle times of a YC are derived analytically. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate optimal block designs for a given set of data.
Currently, a lot of design, engineering and construction companies has been interested in BIM(Building Information Modeling) technologies for higher productivity and efficiency. The information provided from BIM can be mostly used for automated quantity takeoff. But BIM has some problems for fully automated quantity takeoff to solve. The purpose of this study is to show the problems and suggest solutions through case study, especially with concrete and form work.
Dependability-critical systems, such as digital instrumentation and control systems in nuclear power plants, necessitate engineering techniques and tools to provide assurances of their safety and reliability. Determining system reliability at the architectural design phase is important since it may guide design decisions and provide crucial information for trade-off analysis and estimating system cost. Despite this, reliability and system engineering remain separate disciplines and engineering processes by which the dependability analysis results may not represent the designed system. In this article we provide an overview and application of our approach to build architecture-based, dynamic system models for dependability-critical systems and then automatically generate dynamic fault trees (DFT) for comprehensive, tool-supported reliability analysis. Specifically, we use the Architectural Analysis and Design Language (AADL) to model the structural, behavioral and failure aspects of the system in a composite architecture model. From the AADL model, we seek to derive the DFT(s) and use Galileo's automated reliability analyses to estimate system reliability. This approach alleviates the dependability engineering - systems engineering knowledge expertise gap, integrates the dependability and system engineering design and development processes and enables a more formal, automated and consistent DFT construction. We illustrate this work using an example based on a dynamic digital feed-water control system for a nuclear reactor.

Construction is a competitive industry and successful contractors must be able to win bids to obtain projects. Cash flow analysis not only determines actual profit at the end of the project, but also estimates required cash resources or cash ballances at the end of every month. Cash flow analysis is important in managing a construction project; however, it requires extensive information that is not immediately available to the general contractor. Before contractors can perform cash flow analysis, they must first complete a series of pre-requisites such as the quantity take off, scheduling, and cost estimating, followed by accurate assessments of project costs incurred and billable progress made. Consequently, cash flow analysis is currently a lengthy, uncertain process. This paper suggests improved cash flow analysis can be developed using data extraction in Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM models contain a wealth of information and tools have been developed to automate a series of process such as quantity takeoff, scheduling, and estimating. This paper describes a prototype tool to support BIM-based, automated cash flow analysis.
