  • A robust linear predictive coding method that can be used in noisy as well as quiet environment has been studied. In this method, noise autocorrelation coeffieients are first obtained and updated during nonspeech periods. Then, the effect of additive noise in the input speech is removed by subtracting values of the noise autocorrelation coefficients of corrupted speech in the course of computation of linear prediction coefficients. When signal-to-noise ratio of the input speech ranges from 0 to 10 dB, a performance improvement of about 5 dB can be gained by using this method. The proposed method is computationally very efficient and requires a small storage area.

  • Multipath is an inevitable error source in radio navigation system such as GPS, it causes signal tracking errors such as carrier tracking errors, code tracking errors. Since code tracking error is a dominant error in absolute positioning, this paper focuses on the improvement of code tracking performance. This paper proposes a method that detects the change of autocorrelation function's slope and mitigates the multipath error. Also, this paper shows the performance evaluation results by post-processing the digitized RF samples.

  • This paper presents a speaker identification technique which is one of the basic techniques of the ubiquitous robot companion. Though the conventional mel-frequency cepstral coefficients guarantee high performance of speaker identification in clean condition, the performance is degraded dramatically in noise condition. To overcome this problem, we employed the relative autocorrelation sequence mel-frequency cepstral coefficient which is one of the noise robust features. However, there are two problems in relative autocorrelation sequence mel-frequency cepstral coefficient: 1) the limited information problem. 2) the residual noise problem. In this paper, to deal with these drawbacks, we propose a multi-streaming method for the limited information problem and a hybrid method for the residual noise problem. To evaluate proposed methods, noisy speech is used in which air conditioner noise, classic music, and vacuum noise are artificially added. Through experiments, proposed methods provide better performance of speaker identification than the conventional methods.

  • Ternary sequences are digital codes consisting of discrete values -1, 0, and 1 only. They are advantageous in that the correlation can be carried out using additions only. Also, they feature an ideal circular autocorrelation function, but in channel characterization tasks, the usual requirement is that the linear autocorrelation function be ideal, i.e., a Kronecker delta function. In this article, we consider two approaches to improving their linear autocorrelation or crosscorrelation properties: one is an inverse filtering method with thresholding, and the other is a singular value decomposition (SVD) method. Both methods are simulated under noisy circumstances. The inverse filtering method resulted in an improvement in peak sidelobe level of about 11 dB at an SNR of 30 dB, and the SVD method showed similar performances, albeit more sensitive to noise depending on the singular value selection strategy.

  • This paper proposes an improved method for formant frequencies estimation based on the complex autocorrelation function of the speech signal. Instead of using the incoming signal as an input fur the LPC analysis, the analytic signal of the autocorrelation function of the speech signal is computed and itself used as an input for the LPC analysis. Due to the properties of the analytic signal, which occupies half of the bandwidth of the original signal, the required model order for the LPC analysis is halved. The accuracy of the proposed method in noisy environments is examined on five natural vowels. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by the estimated spectral shapes and the estimation errors of the formant frequencies.

  • The spectrum sensing is important for decision of using frequency band. It checks the frequency band for cognitive radio system. In this paper, we apply autocorrelation function to the energy detection method. We use the autocorrelation function to improve the performance of spectrum sensing method based on the energy detection method. This method is different from cyclostationary process method where parameters such as the mean or the autocorrelation function are time-varying periodically. And we propose improved method that is robust in poor radio environment. If the proposed method applies for sensing in the cognitive radio system, it will have the structural simplicity and the fast computation of spectrum sensing.

  • In this paper, we propose the new polyphase sequence with the best nonperiodic autocorrelation property in the viewpoint of the merit factors, which are important criteria for a nonperiodic autocorrelation property. We propose the general implementation of a polyphase sequence generator over an integer residue ring by using a linear feedback shift register(LFSR), in addition, we analyze the linear complexities of polyphase sequences based on the proposed implementation method.

  • Being the most widely used in ultrasound Doppler color flow mapping, the Kasai algorithm, also known as lag-1 autocorrelation method, is capable of estimating the Doppler mean frequency relatively accurately with a modest amount of computation. Particularly in the case of imaging deep lying areas, however, its performance suffers due to low signal-to-noise ratios. The purpose of this paper is to propose a dealiased lag-2 autocorrelation method which is superior to the Kasai algorithm even at low signal-to-noise ratios and to compare their performances through simulations. The proposed algorithm is found to be better by about 2 to 3 dB than the Kasai algorithm in terms of Doppler mean frequency estimation error in the presence of measurement noise.

  • A simple method for analysis of serial search burst-format direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) code acquisition system had been recently proposed, and therein, the effect of the code autocorrelation sidelobes on the performance of DS-SS code acquisition system has been assessed [4],[5]. In this paper, a new hybrid scheme which combines the serial search with maximum likelihood search is proposed to eliminate the deleterious effect of code autocorrelation sidelobes, and the performance is analyzed for the additive withe Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. To analyze the performance of this system, we have generalized the method used in [4],[5] to arbitrary burst-format DS-SS acquisition schemes. The results show that a new hybrid scheme has good immunity against the effect of code autocorrelation sidelobes. Thevalidity of the presented approach has been confirmed form the results of simulation.
