This study aimed to explore EFL learners' beliefs and preferences about reading tasks and to examine the reading processes that they use for making sense of text. The subjects were comprised of 107 college students who were non-English majors and aged 19-28 years. Based on scores achieved on a reading comprehension test, they were divided into two groups (more-skilled and less-skilled readers) and asked to respond to a survey in class. The results of the survey revealed that: (1) a majority rate themselves as fair readers, which might be indicative of the insecurity they feel toward L2 reading; (2) authentic texts (especially magazines) and popular media appear to be their favorite reading materials; (3) unknown vocabulary is a major impediment to their L2 reading comprehension; (4) the more-skilled readers manifest a meaning centered view of reading, whereas the less-skilled readers center on vocabulary; and (5) both groups employ a multistrategic approach to L2 reading; however, the less-skilled readers are less successful in determining the meaning of unknown vocabulary. Pedagogical implications for EFL classroom teachers are provided.

This thesis aims to develop PBL (Problem-Based-Learning) problems. Its goal is for some groups of students to creative their own problems and to confirm the effectiveness of PBL as they apply it to AI (Artificial Intelligence) in engineering schools. Modern industrial society needs competent people who have abilities in cooperative learning, self-controlled learning, united knowledge application, and creative problem-solving. Universities need to offer their students the opportunity to improve their problem-solving and cooperative learning abilities in order to train the competent people that society demands. PBL activity is an appropriate learning method for the accomplishment of these goals. The study subjects are 37 sophomore students in H University who are studying 'AI'. Five PBL problems were submitted to the class over a period of 15 weeks. The students wrote and submitted a reflective journal after they finished each PBL activity. In addition, they filled out a class evaluation form to assess the performances of each member when the $5^{th}$ PBL problem activity was accomplished. The study shows that the students experienced the effectiveness of PBL in many fields, such as the comprehension of the studied contents (86.48%), comprehension of cooperative learning (94.59%), authentic experience (75.67%), problem-solving skills (89.18%), presentation skills (97.29%), creativity improvement (81.08%), knowledge acquisition ability (86.48%), communication ability (97.29%), united knowledge application (78.37%), self-directed study ability (86.48%) and confidence (97.29%). Through these methods, the students were able to realize that PBL learning activities play an important role in their learning. These methods prepare and enhance their ability to think creatively, work systematically and speak confidently as they learn to become competitive engineers equipped with the knowledge and skills that modern industrial society demands.
The purpose of this study is to explore the educational needs of learning supporting program on the students' perception of current competencies and important competencies. The data was collected by using the online type (e-mail survey) and the offline type (printed survey) with survey instrument developed by researcher. Survey instrument was composed of 3 categories and 10 competencies. Collected data was analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 for Windows statistical package. And 159 cases were analyzed finally. The paired t-test was conducted to analyze the difference between importance-performance of students' competencies. The educational needs of learning supporting program were calculated by using the Borich's formula. The findings were as follows: The first, 3 categories and 10 competencies were significant difference exists statistically. The second, The high ranks of the educational needs of learning supporting program were 'Major field knowledge', followed by 'Creativity', 'Problem solving ability', 'Global capability', 'Technology capability' in sequence. The results of this study reflected the authentic needs of students will be used a basic data to establish the curriculum for learning supporting program.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of PBL (Problem-based Learning) strategy applied to the "Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory" class. Especially, the changes in 'self-directed learning ability' and 'attitudes toward science' of undergraduate students were examined. In addition, perception on PBL problem and the PBL classes were investigated. The results of this study were as follows: First, after the course, 'self-directed learning ability' and 'attitude toward science' of students were significantly improved (p < .05). There were significant improvements in every sub-categories except 'self-confidence as a learner' for 'self directed learning ability' and every sub-categories except 'usefulness of science' for 'attitude toward science'. Second, the students expressed that PBL strategy provided opportunities to learn self-directively and responsibly, but the process of defining the problem was difficult. Finally on the survey toward PBL strategy, the students responded that PBL problems were authentic and helpful to learn problem solving ability. In conclusion, PBL laboratory course is effective for developing self-directed learning ability and positive attitude toward science.
Portfolio has recently come to gain more attention from school as an alternative evaluation tool and a self-reflective learning tool for learning. After literature reviews about the case studies on the use of portfolio in higher education including both universities in Korea and abroad, this study attempted, first, to analyze the current e-portfolio system running in Kyung Hee University for the undergraduate students starting from the spring semester, 2010, and then, suggested the ways the system can be more actively utilized among the students, and simultaneously, acquiring more interest and participation from both the faculty members and the school administrators. The data collected from the survey and reflective journals of the students suggested 1) more user-friendly, easy-to-edit version of the system, 2) more diverse modes and functions of the system which, therefore, are able to adjust well to the specific and unique features of subjects or majors of the students, and 3) collaborative learning environments among the students and between the students and the faculty members from which students can share, participate, interact with each other, getting useful feedback from those co-learners and faculty members. Eventually the study aimed to enhance the recognition of the participants about the importance of portfolio as a learning tool for self-reflective learning and authentic evaluation of the students.

The purpose of this study is to suggest implications for maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of IPP work-learning by studying the effects of the personal characteristics of trainees and firm's field teacher on trainees' employability. The following conclusions were drawn by verifying the causal relationship between factors based on a questionnaire (157 copies) distributed to 200 trainees (learning workers) of 9 universities participating in IPP work-learning training. First, in order to increase the employability of IPP trainees, it is necessary to select trainees with strong core competencies and failure tolerance by verifying individual characteristics of trainees. Secondly, companies should appoint senior staff with strong leadership and teaching capacity as corporate field teachers, and corporate field teacher training institutions should reinforce the training to improve their leadership. Third, work-learning companies should be selected as those with high social integration and absorption capacity, and those companies should try to build an organizational culture of acquiring and learning new technologies. The results of this study are expected to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of work-learning training by establishing a training system that can systematically select trainees and participating companies and enhance the training capacity of companies and field teachers.
The purpose of this study was three-folded to suggest the Simplifying Conditions Method (SCM) as a means of task analysis and sequencing of instructional content, to develop teaching-learning materials by analyzing part of the geological time scale of the earth science and finally to analyze the effectiveness of this method. SCM began by simplifying a complex task into the basic components by eliminating various complexities, which produced a simple representative of the entire task. The next step was to relax conditions on the basic version one by one, thereby gradually introducing progressively more complex tasks to the students. This sequential strategy enabled students to understand the task holistically and to acquire authentic skills from very onset of the course. Moreover, Early mastery of skills enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of instruction. The result of this study revealed that instruction through SCM was more effective in developing students' self-directed learning characteristics and academic achievement than instruction through sequential task analysis methodology.
Problem-based learning has been considered as one of the effective educational methods in engineering education. However, in so far as professors who require practical insights in PBL and experiences of developing actual problems by subject, in particular, thorough understanding from experiences of PBL process as well as problem-development has not been sufficiently provided. The purpose of this paper is to present strategies focusing on problem design for PBL on engineering education. In order to do this, a literature review and a qualitative case study were performed. Especially, the study intended to identify differences and gap between professors' problems-development process and its output and those of authentic PBL. Professors were found that their PBL problems had lack of authenticity, consideration on experiences of students, and realistic thinking process. Professors in PBL had difficulty to link theory into real situation. In consequence, in designing a problem, we consider the followings; first, the problem should be designed based on real design process and its output. Second, the problem should be designed and implemented in all academic years for developing student's systematic and skillful thinking process. In conclusion, more supports are needed for engineering professors to extend their experiences of designing and developing actual problems that present real experience.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of wearing lab coats on science-related attitudes of elementary school students in science learning. In addition, we analyzed the effects of wearing lab coats on perceptions of the authenticity of school science activities and the necessity of wearing lab coats. Samples of the study were composed of 4 classes of 92 fifth graders in Seoul, Korea. Unit of 'Temperature and Heat' was selected as a object of the research. The major results of the study are as follows. First, for the independent t-test of science-related attitudes, a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the comparative group was found. Second, 9 students (9.78%) were more than 1SD above the average of the difference between the results of pre and post. Seven of them were experimental group students and two were comparative group students. Third, there was a statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the similarity of the scientific activity of the elementary school students and the scientific activity of the scientists. Fourth, there was no statistically significant difference between the comparison group and the experimental group as a result of the perception test of the necessity of wearing a lab coat. Based on these findings of this study, implications for science education research and teaching and learning at school are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of Agile Culture, which is attracting attention as an organizational culture suitable for responding to changes in the recent corporate management environment, and to reveal the roles and relationships of leadership, Perceived Organizational Support(POS), and Agile Culture. The research was conducted on the employees of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and its subsidiaries, and SmartPLS 3.3.2 was mainly used for the research model test. As a result of the study, both Servant Leadership and Authentic Leadership had a positive effect on POS, and POS had a significant effect on all sub-dimensions of Agile Culture(Empowerment, Collective Intelligence and Continuous Learning). In addition, POS mediated the effects of the above two leaderships on Collective Intelligence and Empowerment, but there was no mediating effect in the relationship with Continuous Learning. These results suggest that leadership and Employees' perceptions of organizational support are important to build an Agile Culture.
