  • Haptic systems have been widely used for both virtual reality and augmented reality application including game, entertainment, education and medical sectors. Clothing designers and retailers initiated using AR and VR technologies to help the consumers find style with the perfect fit. Most of the developed augmented reality shopping is implemented by overlapping the image of the clothes on the customer so that he/she can find the fit. However, those are only visual information and the customer cannot experience the real size and the stiffness of the clothes. In this paper, we present the haptic upper garment which provides the haptic feedback to the user using cables. By controlling the length of the cable, the size of the clothes is set and by stiffness control, the compliance of the fabric is implemented. The haptic garment is modeled for precise control and the distributed controller architecture is described. With the haptic upper garment, the user's experience of the virtual clothes is greatly enhanced.

  • Augmented Reality (AR) technology has rapidly been applied to various application areas including e-learning and e-education. Focusing on the design and development of android tablet application, this study targeted to develop infant music education using AR technology. We used a tablet instead of personal computer because it is more easily accessible and more convenient. Our system allows infant users to play with teaching aids like blocks or puzzles to mimic musical play like game. The user sets the puzzle piece on the playground in front of the tablet and presses the play button. Then, the system extracts a region of interest among the images acquired by internal camera and separates the foreground image from the background image. The block recognition software analyzes, recognizes and shows the result using AR technology. In order to have reasonably working recognition ratio, we did experiments with more than 5,000 frames of actual playing scenarios. We found that the recognition rate can be secured up to 95%, when the threshold values are selected well using various condition parameters.

  • This study aimed to examine an augmented reality-based teaching simulation in a mobile application. We examined how AR-enabled interactions affect users' perceived scenario usefulness and avatar realism. The participants were forty-six undergraduate students. We randomly grouped them into two conditions: AR and Non-interactive video groups with equal sample sizes. This study employed an experimental design approach with a one-way multivariate analysis of variance with repeated measures. The independent variable is the presence/absence of AR interaction with a mobile application. The dependent variables were avatar realism and scenario usefulness. The measures explored how the student avatar's emotional intensity in a scenario influences user perception. The results showed that participants in the AR-interaction group perceived avatar realism significantly higher than those in the non-interactive video group. Also, participants perceived the high emotional intensity scenario (aggression toward peers) to be significantly higher usefulness than the low emotional intensity scenario (classroom disruption).

  • A simulator in Android is developed for Qualcomm Augmented Reality (QCAR) software development kit (SDK). The main purpose is to replace the testing of application on actual Android device. Bugs in the application can be found easily when testing is done in the simulator (with support of Android emulator) before the testing on real device. The simulator does not require a camera in testing augmented reality application. Works included study on QCAR SDK's behavior is done to ensure that the simulator performs similar to the SDK. Description on how would the simulator works with QCAR SDK is included in the paper.

  • In this research, we design and develop an app that can be run on multiple platforms and easily realize augmented reality. It works on PC and mobile (Android, iOS) in cross platform and users want to lower the barriers to entry of augmented reality by allowing users to select the marker to be augmented reality coordinates and the model to be implemented within the app. The app consists of Unity 3D engine and ARToolkit, an open source augmented reality SDK. Unity 3D integrates UI, markers and objects, and is used as the main engine for cross-platform development. This paper presents the design and production method of the augmented reality application and explains the use examples.

  • Augmented reality makes people feel realistic and reduces the damage to cultural properties that can come into contact with the actual cultural heritage. Augmented reality has the advantage that it can show the past appearance of the historical building or relics, the environment, or related information in addition to the current real environment. Despite these values and advantages, As a result of researches and analyzes of the Augmented Reality contents of the National Museum, 'palace in my hand', and the Miruksa project In the field of domestic cultural heritage warriors, augmented reality technology has shown a very negative attitude such as simply showing cultural heritage content or using it as a guide. However, various conditions such as display and sensor hardware and technology needed to realize augmented reality more effectively are improving day by day. And If you have various facilities such as the idea of adding storytelling to the exhibits and WiFi building, In the near future, it will be equipped with a display system of cultural heritage contents that combines augmented reality with a more complete one.

  • Packaging protects products and delivers information to consumers, and interacts with consumers using various technologies such as NFC and QR Code. Recently, augmented reality technology is widely used in the marketing field, and augmented reality market is expected to continue to grow according to Gartner Hype cycle. However, augmented reality is only used by a few companies in the packaging field. By applying augmented reality to packaging, companies can move away from the limited packaging size and provide consumers with more information about their products. In addition, augmented reality can improve the understanding of the product to consumers by interacting with consumers through a variety of content, and positively attract consumers' interest in the brand. Therefore, this study summarized the definition, characteristics, advantages, and market status of packaging and augmented reality, and analyzed the characteristics and cases of content types of augmented reality. As a result, we confirmed the characteristics of marketing using augmented reality, and especially the necessity of applying augmented reality as a marketing tool in the field of packaging.

  • Hwaseong Fortress was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 in recognition of its architectural, cultural, and historical significance. In order to provide a compelling and active experience to the visitors of Hwaseong Fortress more effectively and intuitively, an augmented reality (AR) mobile application is developed. The main objective of this paper is to describe the implementation of AR technology in the developed application; and most importantly, how the application is designed for the visitors to actively and intuitively experience the various architectural and historical contents of Hwaseong. The tour routes and their point of interests were selected carefully after deliberation of their contents. To maximize the user interaction with the application and the architectural contents of Hwaseong, not only the conventional AR technology (marker method), but also the markerless AR method is adopted in the developed application. It is expected that visitors of Hwaseong Fortress enjoy the tour, while learning the architectural, historical, and cultural contents through the active and intuitive interaction with the developed AR mobile application.

  • The purpose of this study was to introduce an application as a learning medium that can be used by students to prepare Solo bridal paes. This application can be used by make-up beginners who are learning about Solo bridal paes. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a randomized pretest-posttest control group. The paes application can be used as a medium in Solo bridal makeup learning, because it is highly effective in helping students prepare Solo bridal paes. This application is also considerably practical because it can be installed on smartphones. Experimental results revealed a difference between the control and experimental classes. Students in the experimental class could prepare paes neatly, and their shapes were proportional to the face of the model. The use of augmented reality as a medium to teach Solo bridal makeup, especially for making paes, is an innovation in the world of education. This application can help students make paes.
