The purpose of this study was to analyse the influence of mother's characteristics on elementary school students' attitudes toward science. Elementary school students (N=667) and their mothers (N=681) were selected from three other regions, big city, small city, and country. Attitudes toward science and supports for scientific activities were measured by two kinds of instruments. The instrument for the measurement of attitudes toward science includes three scales: cognition about value of science, affection toward science & science learning, and cognitive participation in scientific activities. And the instrument to measure parents' support for scientific activities includes two scales: indirect support and direct support. This research showed that mothers' various characteristics resulted in a difference in students' attitudes toward science. And there were positive correlations between students' attitudes toward science and their mothers' attitudes toward science and support for scientific activities. Also mothers' attitudes toward science and support for scientific activities affected students' attitudes. Especially, mothers' personal interest in science and her mental and physical supports for children's scientific activities had a close relation with students' attitudes toward science.
This study identifies the factor structure of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, appearance management attitudes, fashion behaviors, and the effects of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and appearance management attitudes on fashion behaviors. Questionnaires were administered to 255 college students living in Daegu Metropolitan City and Kyungbook province. The data collected were analyzed using frequency, factor analysis, multiple regression, and t-test. The findings were as follows. Sociocultural attitudes toward appearance were composed of two factors (body internalization and appearance recognition). Appearance management attitudes were composed of four factors (shape management recognition, weight management, appearance satisfaction, and health care). Fashion behaviors were composed of six factors (convenience, fashion following, self-satisfaction, attractiveness, pursuit of change, and pleasure). Gender of college students showed a distinction between the sub-variables of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance factors (body internalization) and appearance management attitudes (weight management) and fashion behaviors (convenience, fashion following, self-satisfaction, and pleasure). Women had more desire to have a similar looking body of TV celebrities than men. The effects of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and appearance management attitudes on each fashion behavior variables (convenience, fashion following, self-satisfaction, attractiveness, pursuit of change, and pleasure) were explained by the factors of body internalization and appearance recognition, and weight management, appearance satisfaction, and health care. College students produced fashion appropriate to the situation. Strategies of fashion marketing based on these results are as follow. Through mass media, advertisers help university students realize a healthy outlook and create a social atmosphere that can promote healthy body attractions.
This study explored culture adaptive attitudes and donning practices of traditional dress among Chinese marriage immigrant women. Quantitative research was conducted on Korea-Chinese multicultural families. Participants were 291 married women in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The data was analyzed using frequency analysis, factor analysis, t-test and correlation analysis. The findings are as follows: First, positive relationship was found between Hanbok acceptance attitudes and Qipao transmission attitudes. The level of Qipao transmission attitudes was higher than Hanbok acceptance attitudes especially in the part of knowledge. Han Chinese showed stronger Qipao transmission attitudes than Korean Chinese. Immigrants without Korean nationality had stronger Qipao transmission attitudes. Higher education group and higher income group showed higher level both on Hanbok acceptance attitudes and Qipao transmission attitudes. Second, more than 50% of Chinese marriage immigrant women wore Hanbok once or twice per a year. On the other hand, only 24% of them wore Qipao. This result shows that there exists a gap in the Qipao transmission attitudes and donning practices. 44% of women wore both Hanbok and Qipao in their own wedding ceremony, 32% wore only Hanbok, and 19% wore only Qipao. 64% of women had an experience of wearing Hanbok on special days such as traditional holidays or family affairs, whereas only 29% had worn Qipao.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend line through scatter diagram analysis on correlation between SNS addiction tendencies and learning attitudes, figure out the knee point influencing learning attitudes negatively in detail, and examine influence among subareas. To address the goal, study questions are formulated as follows. First, this author did screening on the data of variables measured and analyzed descriptive statistics. Second, this researcher produced the trend line by drawing a scatter diagram in order to analyze correlation between SNS addiction tendencies, withdrawal symptoms, excessive communication, and excessive time wasting, and learning attitudes exploratorily. Third, to explore correlation between self-evaluation, learning participation, and developmental attitudes, the subfactors of learning attitudes related to SNS addiction tendencies, this author drew a scatter diagram and analyzed the threshold of positive and negative correlation. To verify the study questions, the SNS addiction tendency scale and learning attitude scale were applied to 301 university students in Chungcheong area. According to the study results, first, their learning attitudes are influenced by SNS addiction tendencies, excessive communication and excessive time wasting, and they are not influenced by withdrawal symptoms that much. Second, excessive communication, a factor of SNS addiction tendencies, and self-evaluation and developmental attitudes, factors of learning attitudes, show positive correlation to some extent and indicate negative correlation after the threshold. However, excessive communication and learning participation are found to show no correlation. Third, according to the results of examining correlation with learning attitudes by dividing them into excessive communication and excessive time wasting groups with the knee point of 1.40, as the symptom of excessive communication is found more, it influences self-evaluation, learning participation, developmental attitudes, and learning attitudes more negatively in general. The result of this study is expected to provide foundational material necessary to develop educational programs to prevent undergraduates' excessive SNS use and SNS addiction which can be used in the scenes of counseling or education.
It is a well-established theory that emotion is influential in cognitive processing. Extensive prior research on emotion has shown that emotional factors, such as affect, mood, and feeling, play as information indicating whether he or she has enough knowledge. Most of their findings focused on the effect of emotional valence (i.g., one's subjective positivity or negativity related with the emotion). Recently, several studies on emotion suggest that there is another dimension of emotion, which affects the type of cognitive processing. The studies argue that emotional certainty facilitates heuristic processing, whereas emotional uncertainty promotes systematic processing. Based on the findings, current study examines the effect of certainty on attitudes and recall. Specifically, the authors investigate the effect of certainty on how much effort individuals use to process advertising information and how certainty affects attitude formation toward the advertised product. The authors also focus on recall to clarify the working mechanism of certainty on attitudes, because recall performance reflects the depth of information processing. Based on previous findings, the authors hypothesize that uncertainty (vs. certainty) leads to more favorable attitudes as well as better recall, and conduct an experiment using a fictitious advertisement with 218 participants. The results confirm the predicted effects of certainty only on attitudes not recall. A possible explanation of this discrepancy between attitudes and recall lies in the measurement method, unaided recall. To rule out this possibility, the authors perform an additional analysis with the participants who recall any correct information of the target advertisement. The results show certainty has a negative effect on both attitudes and recall. A bootstrapping test reveals that recall mediates the effect of certainty on attitudes. This result confirms that certainty decreases elaboration, which in turn leads to less favorable attitudes relative to uncertainty. Additionally, our data shows the association among certainty, recall, and attitudes by showing the indirect effect of certainty on attitudes via recall. This research encourages practitioners in the field to emphasize that they should focus on target audiences' emotional certainty before they provide the persuasive message, by showing that uncertainty promotes effortful processing, which in turn leads to better memory and more favorable attitudes.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes on job satisfaction and career commitment in daycare teachers. The subjects in this study were 269 inservice daycare teachers who worked in childcare centers in the metropolitan cities of Busan and Daegu. Methods: As for data collection, a survey was conducted for approximately four weeks from January 3 through 31, 2020, and correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were calculated to analyze the collected data in order to address the research questions of the study. Results: The findings of the study were as follows: First, the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of the daycare teachers had a positive correlation with their job satisfaction and career commitment. Second, whether the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of the daycare teachers affected job satisfaction and career commitment was analyzed. The self-directedness and value orientation of the protean career attitudes of the daycare teachers and their boundaryless career attitudes exercised an influence on job satisfaction and career commitment. Conclusion/Implications: The findings of the study suggest that the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of daycare teachers are crucial factors that have an impact on job satisfaction and career commitment.
This study examines the influence of attitudes toward cosmetic surgery, body value inclination, and sociocultural attitudes towards appearance on clothing behavior. The subjects of this study were 315 female college students in Gyeongsang province. The data obtained were analyzed by a reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis, and t-test. The major results of this study were as follows: First, three factors of attitudes toward cosmetic surgery were identified: the desire/motive for cosmetic surgery, risk taking for cosmetic surgery, and confidentiality about cosmetic surgery. Second, two factors of body value inclination were identified: getting an attractive physical appearance and maintaining an attractive physical appearance. Third, a significant positive correlation was found for attitudes toward cosmetic surgery, body value inclination, and sociocultural attitudes towards appearance with clothing behavior. Fourth, the most important variable that affected the imitation of celebrity clothing and preference for luxury goods was the desire/motive for cosmetic surgery. In addition, the sexual attractiveness of clothing was influenced by risk taking for cosmetic surgery and sociocultural attitudes towards appearance.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether customers' fashion involvement, brand familiarity, and expertise of negative information moderate the influence of the original brand attitudes on the attitude toward extended brand attitudes in the fashion market. For these purposes, four hypotheses were developed and data was collected from 480 students. Data was analyzed using SPSS methods such as factor analysis, frequency, 1-test, and moderated regression analysis. The results were as follows; first, it was found that the original brand attitudes positively influence the extended brand attitudes. Second, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when fashion involvement was high rather than low. Third, in the case that perceived similarity between the original and the extended product classes was high, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when brand familarity was high. Fourth, the influence of original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when the perceived expertise of negative information source on the extended brand was high. Therefore, the results suggest that extending brands requires the systematic brand management considering customers' variables such as fashion involvement, brand familiarity, negative information etc. Also, it seems that the brand strategy should be based on the segmentation for targeted customers' characteristics.
Purpose: This study investigated attitudes toward general elders and elders with dementia among nursing students before beginning the clinical practicum. In addition, students' characteristics differentiating the attitudes were examined. Methods: Attitudes were measured with questionnaires developed for Asian culture at the beginning week of the first semester of the junior year in two baccalaureate programs. Responses from 120 out of 121 students were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, paired t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. Results: Students held negative attitudes toward both types of elders except for generosity dimension toward general elders showing a neutral attitude. Elders with dementia were evaluated more negatively than general elders in all the dimensions of vitality, generosity and flexibility. Vitality and generosity toward general elders were different according to intimacy and the degree of communication with elders. Generosity toward general elders was also different according to students' religious beliefs. Students with interest in elders/issues showed more negative attitudes of vitality and flexibility toward elders with dementia. Conclusions: Students in general had negative attitudes toward elders and more negative attitudes toward elders with dementia. We need to put more efforts into the entire nursing curriculum in order to improve attitudes toward elders with particular concern over attitudes toward elders with dementia.

The effect of environmental instruction on students\` environmental attitudes was studied in two environmental classes and one business class of university undergraduates. Changes in students\` environmental attitudes were assessed from a questionnaire survey administered before and after exposure to a 16 week course. The results indicated statistically significant differences in students\` attitudes toward the environment between the pretest and the posttest. The two environmental classes had the positive effect and the students exhibited more environmentally favorable attitudes. Accordingly, this study confirmed the positive effect of environmental instruction on attitudes toward the environment at a university level.
