Object:The authors compared the attention-deficit hyperactivity(ADH) symptoms in childhood of adult male patients with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and normal control subjects and attempted to find out whether attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder are related each other. Method:The authors compared ADH symptoms in childhood assessed with Wender Utah Rating Scale(WURS), selected 25 items of WURS(WURS-25), and Parent Rating Scale(PRS), and compared them between 26 bipolar, 29 schizophrenic, and 27 normal control subjects. Result:The subjects with bipolar disorder had significantly higher mean score of WURS compared with normal control group(One-way ANOVA, duncan test, WURS:DF=2, F=3.77 p=0.027), and the differences between the mean scores of WURS-25 and PRS of bipolar subjects and the other two groups were also highly significant(One-way ANOVA, Duncan test, WURS-25:DF=2, F=4.24 p=0.0178, PRS:DF=2, F=13.97 p<0.001). The mean scores of WURS, WURS-25, and PRS of schizophrenic subjects were higher than those of normal control group, though not significant. WURS and PRS were correlated for subjects with bipolar disorder(r=0.7495) and the normal control(r=0.5305), and there was no correlation for schizophrenic subjects. Conclusion:The ADH symptoms in childhood were much more evident for adult bipolar subjects than schizophrenic and normal control subjects. And these results are very suggestive that there might be some relationship between bipolar disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and these two disorders might have a shared common pathophysiology which needs further study.

Objective : This study was designed to find the latest intervention trends in treatment of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in South Korea. Methods : Studies on ADHD published in Korean journals from January 2004 to December 2018 were reviewed. The databases used were DBpia, Google Scholar, RISS, and KISS. The search terms were "attention deficit hyperactivity," "child," and "intervention." A total of 14 studies were selected. The results of this study were as follows: Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome. Results : The level of evidence was the highest in the single subject study of level IV, and the methodological quality was the most common study. The interventional metronome (IM) intervention was the most frequently used, and the evaluation tools used in the measurement were the Long Form Assessment of the Interactive Metronome and the Korean Behavior Child Checklist. The Korean ADHD interventions showed statistically significant improvement in concentration, hyperactivity, task performance, excessive language use, and timing. Conclusions : Various types of interventions were provided for children with ADHD in South Korea. The interventions showed positive effects, and provided basic data for evidence-based implementation in clinical practice. In the future, a model study should be conducted, to establish an effective service delivery system, as well as ongoing research on children with ADHD.
The purpose of this study was to develop an intervention program for decreasing inattentive and impulsive behaviors of children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) by combining cognitive training and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Subjects were 22 children who were classified as ADHD. Eleven children among the 22 were placed randomly in the experimental group; the remaining 11 children were placed in the control group. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed by ANCOVA after controlling for effects of pre-tests on criterion variables. Results of the present study showed that the cognitive intervention program was significantly effective for improving attention span and decreasing impulsivity of children with ADHD.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare two subtypes of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and controls in their attention using ADHD diagnostic system (ADS), a kind of continuous performance test. Methods : Subjects of this study were 8 children with ADHD-predominantly inattentive type, 28 children with ADHD-combined type and 20 control children. Ages ranged from 5 to 14 years. The Korean Educational Development Institute version of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (KEDI-WISC) and the ADS were administered to all subjects to provide measures of intelligence and attention. Results : Significant differences were found in the ADS variables for the three groups. When compared with controls, the ADHD-predominantly inattentive type children scored significantly higher on the omission error at middle stage and later stage and ADHD-combined type children scored significantly higher on the omission error and reaction time at later stage. When compared with the other two groups, the ADHD-combined type children scored significantly higher on the commission error at all three stages. Conclusion : Our results suggest that the two subtypes of ADHD have different features in attention deficit. And there was a possibility that commission error is available variable to show cognitive characteristics of ADHD-combined type than any other ADS variables. Further studies are needed to evaluate this finding.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate Korean Wechsler Intelligence profiles and specific abilities related to attention problem of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods : The Korean Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-fourth edition (K-WISC-IV) and Advanced Test of Attention (ATA) were administered to 91 children and adolescents (age $8.5{\pm}2.6$ years, 73 boys) with ADHD. Pearson correlation and independent t-tests were used. Results : The means of Working Memory Index (WMI) and Processing Speed Index (PSI) showed a score of low average in K-WISC-IV. WMI scores for the K-WISC-IV showed clinically significant correlations with omission errors, commission errors, and response time variability on auditory ATA. PSI scores also showed significant correlations with response time and variability on visual ATA. In addition, significantly lower digit span backward scores were observed in hyperactive-impulsive/combined subtypes compared to inattentive subtype (t=3.60, p<.001). Conclusion : Children with ADHD showed significantly lower scores in WMI and PSI which were clinically correlated with ATA scores, and hyperactive-impulsive/combined subtypes showed poorer working memory functions in WMI. Follow-up studies are proposed.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-After School Checklist (ASK) by comparing the results of the Comprehensive Attention Test (CAT) and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) Scale and then by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Methods: We performed correlation analyses on the ASK and CAT results and then the ASK and CGI-S results. We created a ROC curve and evaluated performance on the ASK as a diagnostic tool. We then analyzed the test results of 1348 subjects (male 56.8%), including 1201 subjects in the general population and 147 ADHD subjects, aged 6-15 years, from kindergarten to middle school in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Results: According to the correlation analyses, ASK scores and the Attention Quotient (AQ) of CAT scores showed a significant correlation of -0.20--0.29 (p<0.05). The t-test between ADHD scores and CGI-S also showed a significant correlation (t=-2.55, p<0.05). The area under the ROC curve was calculated as 0.81, indicating good efficacy of the ASK, and the cut-off score was calculated as 15.5. Conclusion: The ASK can be used as a valid tool not only to evaluate functional impairment of ADHD children and adolescents but also to screen ADHD.

Objectives : This study reports on the cases of four ADHD patients who treated with herbal medication based on Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System (DPIDS). Methods : Two children and two adults were diagnosed with ADHD according to DSM-V, and Galgeunhwangryeonhwanggeum-tang was administered. The parents of the two children completed the Korean ADHD Rating Scale (K-ARS) before and after treatment, while the other patients used the Korean ADHD Self Rating Scale (K-ASRS). The patients' somatic symptoms and other issues were evaluated through interviews. Results : In the first case, the K-ARS scale exhibited a change from 28 to 3. The patient demonstrated improvements in attention, concentration, and social behavior, along with the elimination of self-injurious behavior. In the second case, the K-ARS scale showed a change from 41 to 9. The patient in the third case demonstrated improved chronic fatigue, increased attention, work efficiency, and enhanced social skills, leading to maintaining employment for over six months for the first time in their life after the treatments. Additionally, the patient in the fourth case demonstrated improved work concentration and relief in nocturia. Conclusions : In this study, four patients exhibited improvements in symptoms of attention deficit, hyperactivity, and impulsivity before and after herbal treatment, leading to enhanced academic and social relationships. As the patients progressed in their health restoration, symptoms related to the genitourinary system also showed improvement.

Objectives : Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) is characterized by significant impairments in executive functions, with a prevalence of approximately 3-5% of all children worldwide. The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between executive functions and electrophysiological activities in children and adolescents with ADHD. Methods : In 31 patients with ADHD, resting-state EEG was recorded, and Comprehensive Attention Test(CAT), Stroop Color-Word Inference Test(Stroop CWIT), Trail Making Test(TMT), and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test(CST) were administered. Korean version of the ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS) was assessed. Results : Alpha and beta power positively correlated with the Attention Quotient(AQ), while delta power negatively correlated with AQ from CAT. In the Stroop CWIT, decreased delta power and increased beta power were related to higher performance. Power of the alpha band increased with higher TMT performance. Moreover, delta power negatively correlated with good performance on the CST, while alpha and high gamma band showed a positive correlation. Correlation with the parent-rating of ADHD symptoms showed a negative correlation between alpha power and higher scores on the K-ARS. Conclusions : These findings indicate that relative power in higher frequency bands of EEG is related to the higher executive function in children and adolescents with ADHD, while the association with the relative power in lower frequency bands of EEG seem to be vice versa. Furthermore, the findings suggest that QEEG may be a useful adjunctive tool in assessing patients with ADHD.

Objectives : This research is to figure out the neurofeedback treatment for the inattentive children is effective in improving attention deficit and furthermore, in relieving hyperactivity and impulsivity. Methods : 20 children subjects participated for this study. C3-A1 protocol neurofeedback was given 15 to 20 times to each child, it is carried out to compare the degree of attention in each case every 5 times of neurofeedback by using ADHD Rating Scale-IV : Parent Version(ARS) and Attention Deficit Disorder Evaluation Scale-Home Version(ADDES-HV). Results : The subscale of mean inattention score of ARS was reduced from 14.2 to 8.8 significantly(p<0.05) after 20 sessions of neurofeedback treatment, also the subscale of mean impulsivity/hyperactivity score of ARS from 13.3 to 7.1. The subscales of mean inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity score of ADDES-HV was also reduced significantly(p<0.05) after 20 sessions of neurofeedback treatment. The changes of scores appeared significantly(p<0.05) from 10-15 sessions of neurofeedback treatment. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that neurofeedback can improve children's attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsivity, there exists the possibility of being a method to treat ADHD.

The paper examines the role of some determinants of economics, politics and institutions on the budget deficit volatility in some countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The paper uses the fixed effects model (FEM) and the random effects model (REM) to investigate panel data of these countries in the period of 1990-2018. Moreover, the study also explores ordinary least square (OLS) to analyze time-series data for each country in the same period to make comparison among them. The economic data is collected from international financial statistics and world development indicators. The data on political variables are collected from International Country Risk Data Guide (ICRG). The empirical results both confirm that corruption and political stability are important indicators of budget deficit. Besides, the paper suggests authorities should pay more attention on improving the institutional setup of the economy in order to avoid high and unstable deficit. The findings offer new insight on the budget deficit in essence and suggest that the most important thing need to be done ahead is to strongly implement anti-corruption actions. By doing so, the status of budget deficit would be remarkably improved immediately.
