  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify effects of anxiety, social support, and Taegyo practice toward maternal-fetal attachment in pregnant women having an abortion. Method: Participants included 99 pregnant women having an abortion, who participated in this study. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression with the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Results: Maternal-fetal attachment was significantly negatively correlated with anxiety, and significantly positively correlated with social support and Taegyo practice. Spousal support and Taegyo practice, explained 43.8% of participants' maternal-fetal attachment. Conclusion: Results indicate that less anxiety and more social support, and Taegyo practice in pregnant women having an abortion, were associated with stronger maternal-fetal attachment. To strengthen the maternal-fetal attachment of pregnant women having an abortion experience, it would be necessary to develop and implement the Taegyo program, focusing on practicing Taegyo-related encouragement. Additionally, it is recommended that nursing intervention is provided, to encourage families to participate in the Taegyo practice together throughout the gestational period, and to maintain a positive relationship among partners.

  • During the course of play, children gain special experience in a place where they can explore their surrounding environment and feel emotional stability. This experience of attachment to the place of play is very important in that play can serve as a measurement of the child's growth and development. Therefore, the environment surrounding the child should be understood as a meaningful place that affects a child's life beyond the place of play. The purpose of this study is to propose a spatial planning method where the formation of place attachment is considered in the design of child care facilities, as this is where preschool children spend much of their early formative years. The research methods are as follow: First, we surveyed the relationship between child development and place attachment through literature reviews and found that the factors that form place attachment were summarized as accessibility, complexity, segmentation and nature friendliness. Second, we examined the spatial characteristics of Mitsuru Senda, a Japanese architect who has been intensively studying children's play environments, as well as the characteristics of children's play proposed by his academic research. Finally, we analyzed the relationship between the spatial characteristics supporting play shown in Senda's work, and the four factors of place attachment formation and proposed a planning method for space design applicable to child care facilities.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of children's perceived peer attachment on children's subjective well-being and the effects of self-esteem, one of the variables of individual personality characteristics, on peer attachment and subjective well-being. Design: Data from the 2018 Panel Study on Korean Children were used. Methods: The survey method was conducted by the investigator, and the total number of cases was 1,434 people. Results: First, the higher the child's peer attachment leads to higher subjective well-being and self-esteem, and the higher the self-esteem leads to higher subjective well-being. Second, in the relationship between peer attachment and subjective well-being, self-esteem acts as a mediator variable. Third, children's peer attachment affects subjective well-being and self-esteem, and self-esteem affects subjective well-being. The results explain that the degree of children's peer attachment itself affects subjective well-being and self-esteem, and self-esteem also affects children's subjective well-being. Conclusion: Self-esteem is an important factor influencing subjective well-being and has a mediating effect on the relationship between peer attachment and subjective well-being. In other words, it can be understood that children feel subjective well-being through positive interactions with peers, not only in parent relationships. Based on these results, it is necessary to suggest practical interventions to enhance children's subjective sense of well-being and to develop various programs that can strengthen the sub-factors of peer attachment.

  • Two sub-standies were conducted to analyze attachment related variables in infants and characteristics of maternal behavior. The first study investigated the relationships among attachment related variables in infants. The sample consisted of 58 pairs of 11- to 13- months-old infants and their mothers. A significant relationship was found among attachment security, infant temperament and maternal sensitivity. There were differences between security scores of the easy and difficult infants. Securely attached infants were rated as easier temperamentally than insecurely attached infants. The second study analyze maternal behavior characteristics. Subjects were this 30 mothers whose children were between the ages of 2 months and 24 months. The results identified four types of maternal behaviors. This study suggests different method of assessing subjective attributes of individuals by introducing Q-methods to the field of child development.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct Parent Attachment Scale for Children. Adapting the item consisting method used in Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised(ECR-R), Parent Attachment Scale for Children was constructed to measure child's attachment style with their parent, reliably and validly. Also, reliability and item trait informations based on item response theory were reviewed. First preliminary items were derived from the original items of ECR-R and existing Attachment Inventories. These items were modified and complemented to be easier and keep the original meaning of each item. Second preliminary items were administrated to 4~6th grades students(N=576). Finally, Parent Attachment Scale for Children were consisted with 30 items based on two-parameter graded response model. Internal consistency ranges of the scales of Parent Attachment Scale for Children are as follows : Avoidance scale is .94~.96; Anxiety scale is .85~.88. Test-retest reliability ranges are as follows; Avoidance scale is .71~.80; Anxiety scale is .53~.68. Item discrimination and item information value were within an appropriated range. Hierarchical cluster analysis with Ward's Method revealed four types of attachment style : Secure, Dismissing, Preoccupied, Fearful. Other implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

  • Background: Radio-telemetry is a useful method to investigate the spatial ecology of species in the wild, by tracking the signal of a transmitter attached to an individual. The method of attaching a transmitter to a snake is representatively divided into surgical implantation, and external attachment, which latter is often used in small snake species. Results: In this study, we evaluated and compared the utility of two external attachment methods, the nylon thread method and the tape method, applied to a small grassland snake species of approximately 50 cm snout-vent length, the Slender racer (Orientocoluber spinalis), on an island in the Republic of Korea. The nylon thread method and the tape method were applied to four and five individuals, and radio-tracked for an average of eight and eleven days, respectively. The nylon thread method caused individual injury and disturbed their movement, while using the tape method, the transmitter package sometimes dropped off, but no injury or movement problems occurred. Conclusions: Considering that poor understanding of how to attach the transmitter makes it difficult to investigate the spatial ecology of small snake species, the tape method, evaluated in this study, could be applied to attach a transmitter and to study spatial ecology of such snakes.

  • In order to study the effects of cigarette smoking on periodontal tissue, gingival fibroblast from the smoking and nonsmoking groups were cultured and each group were treated with nicotine(50ng/ml,100ng/ml) and NNK(50ng/ml, 100ng/ml) to test their attachment ability at time intervals of 30minutes, 60minutes, 90minutes, 120minutes, and 240minutes. Using the same method, the growth each group treated with nicotine and NNK in order to compare their attachment ability and growth rate was done. The Results are as follows. 1. In comparing the attachment ability and growth rate between the smoking and non-smoking group were significantly higher in all time intervals. 2. When the attachment ability was com-pared among these two groups after treatment with nicotine and NNK, the non-smoking group showed decrease in attachment ability while the smoking group was not affected. 3. The growth rate of these two groups were compared after treating with nicotine and NNK. The growth rate of fibroblast from the non-smoking group decreased while fibroblast from the smoking group was not affected. These results suggest that fibroblast from the non-smoking group showed higher attachment ability, growth rate, and sensitivity to nicotine and NNK. This implies that fibroblast from the non-smoking group is a more reliable source in testing the cytotoxicity of nicotine and NNK. Also it could be reasonable to think that nicotine and NNK is a probable cause for problems in attachment and repair mechanism.
