HG-AAS법에 의한 비소 분석에서 산 및 Pre-Reductant가 분석에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Acid and Pre-Reductant in the Analysis of Arsenic by Hydride Generation-Atomic Absorption Spectrometry)

  • 수소화물 발생법-원자흡수 분광계를 이용한 비소의 분석에서 금속이온의 은폐제로 사용되는 L-cysteine, thiourea, KI/ascorbic acid 등의 예비 환원제와 염산, 질산, 황산 및 이들의 1:1 혼산의 종류 및 농도가 비소의 분석에 미치는 영향을 비교 연구하였다. 대부분의 예비 환원제의 경우 3-5M 이상의 고농도 산 용액에서 비소에 대한 높은 흡괌도를 나타냈으나, 0.1M 이하의 낮은 산 용액에서는 L-cysteine을 제외하고는 극히 저조한 흡광도를 나타내었다. 질산 산성용액에서는 흡광도 신호의 불안정성이 심하였다. 방해물질로서 $Cr^{6+}$, $Br^{5+}$ 이온의 방해영향이 크게 관찰되었지만, 이때 예비 환원제는 수소화물 생성을 크게 증가시켰다.

  • A simple and direct method is developed for the determination of light Elements in atmospheric particulates by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Calibration standards for the light elements such as Al, Mg, K, Ca, etc are prepared by filtering real atmospheric particulates over variable time and subsequently standardizing them by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry(ICP-MS) or Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry(AAS) analysis. The validity of this calibration method is tested by analyzing more than 100 aerosol samples, collected at urban(Seoul) and rural(Padori) sites over a two year period with this method and then comparing them with those by other accuracy proven methods such as AAS or ICP-MS: for all metals tested the results showed reasonably good agreements (R $\geq$ 0.95).

실리카광물의 산침출 정제와 불순물 분석법 연구 (Impurity analysis and acid leaching purification of silica minerals)

  • 2N급(99 %)의 실리카를 3N급(99.9 %)으로 향상시키기 위해서 널리 이용되고 있는 산 침출법(acid leaching)들의 정제효과와 실리카광물에 존재하는 불순물의 분석법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 산 침출법에 이용한 용액은 0.2M-oxalic acid (pH1.5, 2.5), conc-Aqua regia, 2.5 %-HCl/HF, 1 %-$HNO_3/HF$의 다섯 종류이었으며, 각 방법의 불순물 정제특성과 침출시간에 따른 침출효율을 조사하였다. 실리카광물과 침출용액중의 불순물 분석은 중성자방사화분석법(neutron activation analysis; NAA), 유도결합 플라즈마 원자방출 분석법(inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry; ICP-AES), 원자흡광 분광분석법(atomic absorption spectrometry; AAS), x-선 형광분석법(x-ray fluorescence; XRF), 그리고 습식분석법(wet analysis; WA)의 여섯 가지 방법을 이용하였으며, 불순물의 농도와 종류에 따른 분석법들의 장단점을 조사하였다. 실험에 사용한 실리카광물은 습식 비중선별 및 자력선별과 같은 물리적 정제를 거친 순도 99 %급의 실리카로서 $100-150{\mu}m$ 범위의 입도분포를 가지는 분말들이었다. 실리카중 주요 불순물은 Al, Fe, Na, Ca 및 Ti 이었으며 수백에서 수천 mg/kg의 농도로 존재하고 있었다. 산 침출방법과 불순물의 종류에 따른 정제효과를 비교한 결과 2.5 %-HCl/HF 침출방법이 가장 효과적이었으며 이 방법으로 99.1 % 실리카 분말을 99.8 %까지 순도를 향상시킬 수 있었다. 또한 실리카광물과 침출용액의 불순물의 종류와 함량에 따른 최적의 분석기술을 결정할 수 있었다.

Hydrogen Absorption by Crystalline Semiconductors: Si(100), (110) and (111)

  • Gas-phase hydrogen atoms create a variety of chemical and physical phenomena on Si surfaces: adsorption, abstraction of pre-adsorbed H, Si etching, Si amorphization, and penetration into the bulk lattice. Thermal desorption/evolution analyses exhibited three distinct peaks, including one from the crystalline bulk. It was previously found that thermal-energy gaseous H(g) atoms penetrate into the Si(100) crystalline bulk within a narrow substrate temperature window(centered at ~460K) and remain trapped in the bulk lattice before evolving out at a temperature as high as ~900K. Developing and sustaining atomic-scale surface roughness, by H-induced silicon etching, is a prerequisite for H absorption and determines the $T_s$ windows. Issues on the H(g) absorption to be further clarified are: (1) the role of the detailed atomic surface structure, together with other experimental conditions, (2) the particular physical lattice sites occupied by, and (3) the chemical nature of, absorbed H(g) atoms. This work has investigated and compared the thermal H(g) atom absorptivity of Si(100), Si(111) and Si(110) samples in detail by using the temperature programmed desorption mass spectrometry (TPD-MS). Due to the differences in the atomic structures of, and in the facility of creating atom-scale etch pits on, Si(100), (100) and (110) surfaces, the H-absorption efficiency was found to be larger in the order of Si(100) > Si(111) > Si(110) with a relative ratio of 1 : 0.22 : 0.045. This intriguing result was interpreted in terms of the atomic-scale surface roughening and kinetic competition among H(g) adsorption, H(a)-by-H(g) abstraction, $SiH_3(a)$-by-H(g) etching, and H(g) penetraion into the crystalline silicon bulk.

  • 공기-아세틸렌 불꽃 원자 흡수분광법으로 칼슘분석을 하는 경우 비교적 방해가 큰 것은 지르코늄, 주석, 알루미늄, 안티몬 등 양이온과 황산이온, 바나듐산이온, 규산이온 등 음이온이다. 여기에 해방제로서 세륨을 사용하면 이들 방해 효과를 제거할 수 있음을 알게 되었다. 칼슘과 같은 농도($3.0 {\times} 10^{-4}$M)의 이 방해이온들에 의한 방해는 방해이온 농도의 2배의 세륨에 의하여 완전히 해방됨을 보았고 방해 양이온혼합물(지르코늄, 주석, 알루미늄, 안티몬), 방해음이온 혼합물(황산이온, 바나듐산이온, 규산이온)또는 방해양이온 음이온 혼합물의 방해는 각각의 양이온 혹은 음이온에 의한 방해보다 더 큰 방해를 주는데 세륨($1.5 {\times} 10^{-2}$M)에 의한 해방효과는 방해양이온, 음이온 혼합물의 농도가 각각 $3.0 {\times} 10^{-3}$M까지 증가하여도 거의 변하지 않고 좋았다.

Surface Reactions of Atomic Hydrogen with Ge(100) in Comparison with Si(100)

  • The reactions of thermal hydrogen atoms H(g) with the Ge(100) surface were examined with temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) mass spectrometry. Concomitant $H_2$ and $CH_4$ TPD spectra taken from the H(g)-irradiated Ge(100) surface were distinctly different for low and high H(g) doses/substrate temperatures. Reactions suggested by our data are: (1) adsorbed mono(${\beta}_1$)-/di-hydride(${\beta}_2$)-H(a) formation; (2) H(a)-by-H(g) abstraction; (3) $GeH_3$(a)-by-H(g) abstraction (Ge etching); and (4) hydrogenated amorphous germanium a-Ge:H formation. While all these reactions occur, albeit at higher temperatures, also on Si(100), H(g) absorption by Ge(100) was not detected. This is in contrast to Si(100) which absorbed H(g) readily once the surface roughened on the atomic scale. While this result is rather against expectation from its weaker and longer Ge-Ge bond as well as a larger lattice constant, we attribute the absence of direct H(g) absorption to insufficient atomic-scale surface roughening and to highly efficient subsurface hydrogenation at moderate (>300 K) and low (${\leq}300K$) temperatures, respectively.

  • The dried carpophores of Sarcodon aspratus were examined for mineral elements and a protein-polysacccharide. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, lead, cadmium and mercury were detected in that order of contents by atomic absorption spectrometry and automatic mercury analysis. The protein-polysaccharide fraction extracted from the carpophore was found to contain 31.5% protein and 52.8% polysaccharide. The fraction showed no antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 implanted in mice.

  • By using surface modified activated alumina with AI(III) and flame atomic absorption spectrometry, a rapid and convenient method for the selective analysis of chromium (III) and chromium (VI) in water has been developed. This technique appears to work accurately under optimum pH range from 3 to 5.

Chemical Compositions and Pyrolysis Characteristics of Oil Shales Distributed in Korea

  • The chemical compositions and pyrolysis characteristics of oil shales and source rocks distributed in the southwestern and southeastern parts of the Korean peninsular have been investigated. In order to compare the results of Korean samples with those of shales giving high oil yields, two Colorado oil shale samples and one Paris source rock samples were also investigated. Chemical compositions of the samples were analysed by means of gravimetry, CHN analysis, X-ray diffraction method, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry and atomic absorption spectrometry. A custom made pyrolyser and a Rock-Eval system were used for the pyrolysis studies. Pyrolyses of the samples were carried out by means of a temperature controlling device to $600^{\circ}C$ at a heating rate of $5^{\circ}C/min$ with a helium flow rate of $1200m{\ell}/min$. The results of pyrolysis study indicated that Colorado shale samples belong to type I and all the other samples belong to type II.

  • The exposure of human beings to toxic trace metals (Cu, Zn) continues to be an important public health issue and concern. This study was conducted to assess the exposure to trace metals (Cu, Zn) in the general Korean population by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Serum samples were obtained from 40 healthy volunteers. Specimens were collected in special container and we applied sample processing to minimize contamination. We used ICP-MS and AAS to analyze simultaneously the concentration of metals including copper, zinc. Distribution of trace metal levels in the general healthy population showed lower values. The results in this study can provide background data for clinical studies associated with trace metal exposure in the korean population.
