Objective: POU class 1 homeobox 1 (POU1F1) mediates growth hormone expression and activity by altering transcription, eventually resulting in growth rate variations. Therefore, we aimed to identify chicken POU1F1 polymorphisms and evaluate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and growth-related traits, and logistic growth curve parameter traits (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, and ${\gamma}$). Methods: Three SNPs (M_1 to M_3) were used to genotype 585 $F_1$ and 88 $F_0$ birds from five Korean native chicken lines using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results: Single marker analyses and traits association analyses showed that M_2 was significantly associated with body weight at two weeks, weight gain from hatch to 2 weeks, and weight gain from 16 to 18 weeks (p<0.05). M_3 was significantly associated with weight gain from 14 to 16 weeks and from 16 to 18 weeks, and asymptotic body weight (${\alpha}$) (p<0.05). No traits were associated with M_1. The POU1F1 haplogroups were significantly associated with weight gain from 14 to 16 weeks (p = 0.020). Linkage disequilibrium test and Haploview analysis shown one main haploblock between M_2 and M_3 SNP. Conclusion: Thus, POU1F1 significantly affects the growth of Korean native chickens and their growth curve traits.
Spikelet number per unit area(SPN) is a major determinant of rice yield. Nitrogen nutrition status and biomass during reproductive stage determine the SPN. To formulate a model for estimating SPN, the 93 field experiment data collected from widely different regions with different japonica varieties in Korea and Japan were analyzed for the upper boundary lines of SPN responses to nitrogen nutrition index(NNI), shoot dry weight and shoot nitrogen content at panicle initiation and heading stage. The boundary lines of SPN showed asymptotic responses to all the above parameters(X) and were well fitted to the exponential function of $f(X)=alphacdot{1-etacdotexp(gamma;cdot;X)}$. Excluding the constant, from the boundary line equation, the values of the equation range from 0 to 1 and represent the indices of parameters expressing the degree of influence on SPN. In addition to those indices, the index of shoot dry weight increase during reproductive stage was calculated by directly dividing the shoot dry weight increase by the maximum value ($800 extrm{g/m}^{-2}$) of dry weight increase as it showed linear relationship with SPN. Four indices selected by forward stepwise regression at the stay level of 0.05 were those for NNI ($I_{NNI}_P$) at panicle initiation, NNI($I_{NNI}_h$) and shoot dry weight($I_{DW}_h$) at heading stage, and dry weight increase($I_{DW}$) between those two stages. The following model was obtained: SPN=48683ㆍ $I_{DWH}$$^{0.482}$ㆍ $I_{NNIp}$$^{0.387}$ㆍ $I_{NNIH}$$^{0.318}$ㆍ $I_{DW}$$^{0.35}$). This model accounted for about 89% of the variation of spikelet number. In conclusion this model could be used for estimating the spikelet number of japonica rice with some confidence in widely different regions and thus, integrated into a rice growth model as a component model for spikelet number estimation.n.n.
The horizontal compression test of some selected corrugated fiberboards was performed to determine the cushioning properties of them. Creep behavior of the corrugated fiberboard boxes, which have been widely used in rural area for packaging fruits and vegetables, was tested. The flute crushing stress of the corrugated fiberboard depended upon mainly the basic weight of the corrugated medium, comparing with the combined basic weight of corrugated fiberboard. When moisture content of the corrugated fiberboards was increased about 8% (d.b.), the flute crushing stress of them was decreased at the rate of 44%~64%. The cushion factor of the sample fiberboards showed much higher value at the lower moisture content of them. These trends appeared to be more obvious at the lower applied stress levels. Also, the cushion factors of the double wall corrugated fiberboards(DW) were observed to be little higher than those of the single wall corrugated fiberboards(SW). The creep behavior of the sample boxes was found to be highly moisture and static load dependent. The creep behavior of the corrugated fiberboard boxes could be well analyzed by the asymptotic slope derived from the creep model.
In the current paper, the nonlinear resonance response of functionally graded graphene platelet reinforced (FG-GPLRC) beams by considering different boundary conditions is investigated using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Four different graphene platelets (GPLs) distributions including UD and FG-O, FG-X, and FG-A are considered and the effective material parameters are calculated by Halpin-Tsai model. The nonlinear vibration equations are derived by Euler-Lagrange principle. Then the perturbation method is used to discretize the motion equations, and the loadings and displacement are all expanded, so as to obtain the first to third order perturbation equations, and then the asymptotic solution of the equations can be obtained. Then the nonlinear amplitude-frequency response is obtained with the help of the modified Lindstedt-Poincare method (Chen and Cheung 1996). Finally, the influences of the distribution types of GPLs, total GPLs layers, GPLs weight fraction, elastic foundations and boundary conditions on the resonance problems are comprehensively studied. Results show that the distribution types of GPLs, total GPLs layers, GPLs weight fraction, elastic foundations and boundary conditions have a significant effect on the nonlinear resonance response of FG-GPLRC beams.
Two feeding trials were conducted to assess the relative bioavailability (RBV) of methionine hydroxy analogue calcium salt (MHA-Ca) in comparison to DL-methionine (DL-Met). Male Ross 308 (1-38 days) and Cobb 500 chickens (1-42 days) were used in studies 1 and 2, respectively. Experimental diets based on wheat and soybean meal or sorghum and soybean meal were fed during three phases. In both experiments graded levels of DL-Met and MHA-Ca were supplemented to Met+Cys deficient basal diets. Additionally, in experiment 1, increasing levels of a DL-Met preparation diluted with corn starch to 65% purity (DL-Met65) were supplemented. Birds were kept in floor pens and feed and water were available ad libitum. Body weights and feed consumption were recorded at the beginning and end of the experimental periods and weight gain and feed efficacy were computed subsequently. At the end of the experiments, a number of birds were slaughtered for carcass evaluation (dressing percentage, breast meat yield). Dose response data were analysed by both ANOVA and nonlinear common plateau asymptotic regression. In both experiments birds responded significantly to increasing levels of either methionine source. However, RBV of MHA-Ca compared to DL-Met was markedly (in many cases significantly) below 84%, the value which would have been expected from MHA-Ca's chemical characteristics. Excluding some extremely low RBV figures of trial 2, RBV of MHA-Ca averaged to about 63% in relation to DL-Met. In addition, supplementation of DL-Met65 allowed confirmation of nonlinear common plateau asymptotic regression to be suitable to determine RBV.
This paper discusses a design of a nonlinear control for a class of single-input double-output nonlinear mechanical systems. When conventional linearization methods are applied to the mechanical systems, some problems of oscillation and unstable phenomena arise. The proposed nonlinear control system resolves these problems. In this design the eigenvalues of the closed-loop nonlinear system are assigned to desired locations and local asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system. is guaranteed. The design method is applied to an inverted pendulum system with a moving weight mechanism. Experimental results show that the proposed nonlinear controller is more effective for stability than the usual linear controller.
In [5], Csorgo and Zitikis exposed the strong $uniform-over-[0,\;{\infty}]$ consistency, and weak $uniform-over-[0,\;{\infty}]$ approximation of the empirical mean residual life process by employing weight functions. We carry on the uniform asymptotic behaviors of the empirical mean residual life process over the whole positive half line by representing the process as an integral form. We compare our results with those of Yang [15], Hall and Wellner [8], and Csorgo and Zitikis [5].
A robust adaptive position control algorithm is proposed for servomotor drive system with uncertainties and load disturbance. The proposed controller is comprised of a nominal controller and a robust control. The nominal controller is designed in the condition without all the external load disturbance, nonlinear friction and unpredicted uncertainties. The robust controller containing lumped uncertainty approximator using fuzzy-neural network(FNN) is designed to dispel the effect of uncertainties and load disturbance. The interconnection weight of the FNN can be online tuned in the sense of the Lyapunov stability theorem thus asymptotic stability of the proposed control system can be guaranteed. Finally, simulation results verify that the proposed control algorithm can achieve favorable tracking performance for the induction servomotor drive system.
In this paper we propose an efficient scoring type one-step GM-estimator, which has a bounded influence function and a high break-down point. The main point of the estimator is in the weighting scheme of the GM-estimator. The weight function we used depends on both leverage points and residuals So we construct an estimator which does not downweight good leverage points Unider some regularity conditions, we compute the finite-sample breakdown point and prove asymptotic normality Some simulation results are also presented.

In this paper we consider the problem of identifying and testing outliers in linear regression. First we consider the problem for testing the null hypothesis of no outliers. A test based on the ratio of two residual scale estimates is proposed. We show the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics by Monte Carlo simulation and investigate its properties. Next we consider the problem of identifying the outliers. A forward sequential procedure using the suggested test is proposed and shown to perform fairly well. Unlike other forward procedures, the present one is unaffected by masking and swamping effects because the test statistic is based on robust scale estimate.
