A Recursive Procedure for Mining Continuous Change of Customer Purchase Behavior (고객 구매행태의 지속적 변화 파악을 위한 재귀적 변화발견 방법)

  • Association Rule Mining has been successfully used for mining knowledge in static environment but it provides limited features to discovery time-dependent knowledge from multi-point data set. The aim of this paper is to develop a methodology which detects changes of customer behavior automatically from customer profiles and sales data at different multi-point snapshots. This paper proposes a procedure named 'Recursive Change Mining' for detecting continuous change of customer purchase behavior. The Recursive Change Mining Procedure is basically extended association rule mining and it assures to discover continuous and repetitive changes from data sets which collected at multi-periods. A case study on L department store is also provided.

  • Mining frequent patterns in transaction databases, time-series databases, and many other kinds of databases has been studied popularly in data mining research. Most of the previous studies adopt an Apriori-like candidate set generation-and-test approach. However, candidate set generation is still costly, especially when there exist prolific patterns and/or long patterns. And calendar based on temporal association rules proposes the discovery of association rules along with their temporal patterns in terms of calendar schemas, but this approach is also adopt an Apriori-like candidate set generation. In this paper, we propose an efficient temporal frequent pattern mining using TFP-tree (Temporal Frequent Pattern tree). This approach has three advantages: (1) this method separates many partitions by according to maximum size domain and only scans the transaction once for reducing the I/O cost. (2) This method maintains all of transactions using FP-trees. (3) We only have the FP-trees of I-star pattern and other star pattern nodes only link them step by step for efficient mining and the saving memory. Our performance study shows that the TFP-tree is efficient and scalable for mining, and is about an order of magnitude faster than the Apriori algorithm and also faster than calendar based on temporal frequent pattern mining methods.

  • Commercial data mining tools basically support binary attributes only in mining association rules, that is, they can mine binary association rules only. In general, however. transaction databases contain not only binary attributes but also quantitative attributes. Thus, in this paper we propose a systematic approach to mine quantitative association rules---association rules which contain quantitative attributes---using commercial mining tools. To achieve this goal, we first propose an overall working framework that mines quantitative association rules based on commercial mining tools. The proposed framework consists of two steps: 1) a pre-processing step which converts quantitative attributes into binary attributes and 2) a post-processing step which reconverts binary association rules into quantitative association rules. As the pre-processing step, we present the concept of domain partition, and based on the domain partition, we formally redefine the previous bipartition and multi-partition techniques, which are mean-based or median-based techniques for bipartition, and are equi-width or equi-depth techniques for multi-partition. These previous partition techniques, however, have the problem of not considering distribution characteristics of attribute values. To solve this problem, in this paper we propose an intuitive partition technique, named standard deviation minimization. In our standard deviation minimization, adjacent attributes are included in the same partition if the change of their standard deviations is small, but they are divided into different partitions if the change is large. We also propose the post-processing step that integrates binary association rules and reconverts them into the corresponding quantitative rules. Through extensive experiments, we argue that our framework works correctly, and we show that our standard deviation minimization is superior to other partition techniques. According to these results, we believe that our framework is practically applicable for naive users to mine quantitative association rules using commercial data mining tools.

  • In General, data mining is defined as the knowledge discovery or extracting hidden necessary information from large databases. Its technique can be applied into decision making, prediction, and information analysis through analyzing of relationship and pattern among data. One of the most important works is to find association rules in data mining. Association Rule is mainly being used in basket analysis. In addition, it has been used in the analysis of web-log and user-pattern. This paper provides the application method in the field of marketing through the analysis of data using association rule as a technique of data mining.
