This study developed a variable demand traffic assignment model by stable dynamics. Stable dynamics, suggested by Nesterov and do Palma[19], is a new model which describes and provides a stable state of congestion in urban transportation networks. In comparison with the user equilibrium model, which is based on the arc travel time function in analyzing transportation networks, stable dynamics requires few parameters and is coincident with intuitions and observations on congestion. It is therefore expected to be a useful analysis tool for transportation planners. In this study, we generalize the stable dynamics into the model with variable demands. We suggest a three stage optimization model. In the first stage, we introduce critical travel times and dummy links and determine variable demands and link flows by applying an optimization problem to an extended network with the dummy links. Then we determine link travel times and path flows in the following stages. We present a numerical example of the application of the model to a given network.
Workflow systems are software systems that control the execution of long-term processes. Members of an organization are in charge of executing processes. A work assignment policy, i.e who should perform a certain piece of process, has to be modeled and implemented in workflow systems. Organizations may have a large variety of problems in work assignment, and it may not be feasible to devise a single model to cover all problems. In this paper, we introduce generality to work assignment design problems in workflow systems We provide a meta-model based approach which enables us to define arbitrary problem oriented work assignment policies.

In this paper, we consider a channel ordering problem that seeks to minimize the total interference in mobile radio networks. If a base station receives connection request from a mobile user, one of the empty channels that are fixed to the base station is assigned to the mobile user. Among several channels available, we can choose one that seems to make least interference with other channels assigned to adjacent base stations. However, a pair of channels that are not separated enough do not generate interference if both of them are not simultaneously used by mobile users. That is, interference between channels may vary depending on the channel assignment sequence for each base station and on the distribution of mobile users. To find a channel assignment sequence that seems to generate minimum interference, we develop an optimization model considering various scenarios of mobile user distribution. Simulation results show that channel assignment sequence determined by the scenario based optimization model significantly reduces the interference provided that scenarios and interference costs are properly generated.

To assign the soldiers in the adequate positions I military is almost as important as managing officers because they compose the main part of military structure and equipment operators. The current Military Occupational Specialty(MOS) assignment system lacks the capability to optimize the use of recruit's potential. We suggest an MOS assignment method for enlisted recruits using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method, this method systematically provides a method of calculation of composite relative weights of decision elements to be considered during MOS assignment and a method of quantification for personal quality of new recruits. The quantified value of personal quality, Mission Performance Capability(MPC), in this study means the mission performance capability when a personnel is assigned to a certain MOS. This paper develops a multiple objectives MOS assignment model for enlisted recruits. It uses MPC of personnels, calculated with AHP method and consensus method, as parameters. The goal constraints are assurance of filling requirement, minimization of the number of unassigned personnel to MOS, capability satisfaction of education facility and support facility, assurance of desired MPC value level for MOS assignment, and maximization of total MPC. The objective function is to terminalization of the negative or positive deviation for the above goal constraints.

For massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) circumstances with time division duplex (TDD) protocol, pilot contamination becomes one of main system performance bottlenecks. This paper proposes an uplink pilot sequence assignment to alleviate this problem for spatially correlated massive MIMO circumstances. Firstly, a single-cell TDD massive MIMO model with multiple terminals in the cell is established. Then a spatial correlation between two channel response vectors is established by the large-scale fading variables and the angle of arrival (AOA) span with an infinite number of base station (BS) antennas. With this spatially correlated channel model, the expression for the achievable system capacity is derived. To optimize the achievable system capacity, a problem regarding uplink pilot assignment is proposed. In view of the exponential complexity of the exhaustive search approach, a pilot assignment algorithm corresponding to the distinct channel AOA intervals is proposed to approach the optimization solution. In addition, simulation results prove that the main pilot assignment algorithm in this paper can obtain a noticeable performance gain with limited BS antennas.
Significant progress has been achieved in the active control of civil-engineering structures, not only in the control algorithm, but also in control testing of the scaled model and full-scale building. At the present time, most algorithms used in the active control of civil engineering structures are based on the various active control techniques. In this paper represents active control method, by using pole assignment for reducing structural vibration under excited load. Numerical simulations are performed to assess the effectiveness of pole assignment control system. The relative displacement of structure system is significantly reduced.
Traffic assignment has been used both for predicting travel demands and for evaluating the tools for alleviating congestion on road network in advance. Some assignment models have been proposed such as equivalent mathematical minimization method, variational inequality problem, nonlinear complementary problem and fixed point method, in following the principle of Wardrop (1952) that no driver can not Improve his travel cost by unilaterally changing his route. Recently Jin(2005a) presented a traffic assignment model based on dynamic process. This paper proposes a solution algorithm for the model of Jin and assesses the performances. Compared to the Frank-Wolfe method, which has been wildly used for solving the existing assignment models, the proposed algorithm is expected to be more efficient because it does not need to evaluate the objective function. Two numerical examples are used for assessing the algorithm, and they show that the algorithm converges to user equilibrium of Wardrop.
In this paper, we propose a parametric optimization approach to simultaneously determining trip distribution, mode choice, and user-equilibrium assignment. In our model, mode choice decisions are based on a binomial logit model and passenger and cargo demands are divided into appropriate mode according to the user equilibrium minimum travel time. Underlying network consists of road and rail networks combined and mode choice available is auto, bus, truck, passenger rail, and cargo rail. We provide an equivalent convex optimization problem formulation and efficient algorithm for solving this problem. The proposed algorithm was applied to a large scale network examples derived from the National Intermodal Transportation Plan (2000-2019).
A network model and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to solve the simultaneous estimation of the trip distribution and traffic assignment from traffic counts in the congested networks in a logit-based Stochastic User Equilibrium (SUE). The model is formulated as a problem of minimizing a non-linear objective function with the linear constraints. In the model, the flow-conservation constraints are utilized to restrict the solution space and to force the link flows become consistent to the traffic counts. The objective of the model is to minimize the discrepancies between two sets of link flows. One is the set of link flows satisfying the constraints of flow-conservation, trip production from origin, trip attraction to destination and traffic counts at observed links. The other is the set of link flows those are estimated through the trip distribution and traffic assignment using the path flow estimator in the logit-based SUE. In the proposed GA, a chromosome is defined as a real vector representing a set of Origin-Destination Matrix (ODM), link flows and route-choice dispersion coefficient. Each chromosome is evaluated by the corresponding discrepancies. The population of the chromosome is evolved by the concurrent simplex crossover and random mutation. To maintain the feasibility of solutions, a bounded vector shipment technique is used during the crossover and mutation.
In a wafer fabrication factory, the completion time of an order is affected by many factors related to the specifics of the order and the status of the system, so is difficult to predict precisely. The level of influence of each factor on the order completion time may also depend on the production system characteristics, such as the rules for releasing and dispatching. This paper presents a method to identify those factors that significantly impact upon the order completion time under various combinations of scheduling rules. Computer simulations and statistical analyses were used to develop effective due date assignment models for improving the due date related performances. The first step of this research was to select the releasing and dispatching rules from those that were cited so frequently in related wafer fabrication factory researches. Simulation and statistical analyses were combined to identify the critical factors for predicting order completion time under various combinations of scheduling rules. In each combination of scheduling rules, two efficient due date assignment models were established by using the regression method for accurately predicting the order due date. Two due date assignment models, called the significant factor prediction model (SFM) and the key factor prediction model (KFM), are proposed to empirically compare the due date assignment rules widely used in practice. The simulation results indicate that SFM and KFM are superior to the other due date assignment rules. The releasing rule, dispatching rule and due date assignment rule have significant impacts on the due date related performances, with larger improvements coming from due date assignment and dispatching rules than from releasing rules.
