  • Assuring integrity of permission assignment (PA) constraints is a difficult task in role-based access control (RBAC) because of the large number of constraints, users, roles and permissions in a large enterprise environment. We provide solutions for this problem using the conflict concept. This paper introduces the conflict model in order to understand the conflicts easily and to detect conflicts effectively. The conflict model is classified as a permission-permission model and a role-permission model. This paper defines two type conflicts using the conflict model. The first type is an inter-PA-constraints (IPAC) conflict that takes place between PA constraints. The other type is a PA-PAC conflict that takes place between a PA and a PA constraint (PAC) Also, the conditions of conflict occurrence are formally specified and proved. We can assure integrity on permission assignment by checking conflicts before PA and PA constraints are applied.

  • In this paper, we consider the train-fleet assignment problem to determine fleet assignment and seat allocation synchronously. An integer programming model of the problem and a decomposition-based solution approach are developed to handle short-term period deterministic orgin-destination demands. The primary objective used in the developed model is to maximize the total number of passengers transported during peak load periods, such as Chuseok national holiday period. Thus, in developing the model we choose to profit-pursuing system. We also show how the proposed model can be readily modified to incorporate profit-maximization. Using the empirical data sets provided by a Korean railroad company, we have tested the proposed solution approach and carried out various comparison analyses by varying traffic demand patterns and train schedules. The computational experiments reveal that the proposed solutions approach produces high quality solutions in reasonable computation time.

  • Man-machine assignment problem with random service and processing times is considered in this paper. Assuming heterogeneous semi-automatic machines, the problem is dealt with as follow; 1. For the different type of machines that have probabilistics distribution of processing time and nan service time, man·machine assignment problem is solved by heuristic method using expected time value if machine. 2. Since each related time is a random variable, the performance of the optimal assignment obtained from the above method is verified through monte carlo simulation method. 3. The above procedures are programed by BASIC language to use easily and rapidly in the personal computer. The result of this study can contribute to productivity enhancement by increasing the efficiencies of both operators and machines.

  • This study is to develop an optimal surveillance units assignment model in order to obtain the maximized surveillance efficiency with the limited surveillance units. There are many mathematical models which deal with problems to assign weapons such as aircrafts, missiles and guns to targets. These models minimize the lost required to attack, the threat forecast from the enemy, or both of them. However, a problem of the efficient assignment of surveillance units is not studied yet, nevertbless it is important in the battlefield surveillance system. This paper is concerned with the development of the optimal surveillance units assignment model using integer programming. An optimal integer solution of the model can be obtained by using linear programming and branch and bound method.

  • This paper proposes DPA(Dynamic Priority Assignment) MAC protocol to improve the traffic QoS on the HFC-CATV(Hybrid Fiber Coax CAble TeleVision) network. In results, DPA MAC protocol is the best performance compare with to IEEE 802.14a MAC in mean request delay, mean access delay. Also, the paper prove a reliability of proposed protocol through comparison between performance analysis and simulation result of DAP MAC protocol.

  • For the graceful transition from the analog to digital TV systems, a systematic frequency assignment scheme must be incorporated into the transition planning procedure. In this study, we have studied the frequency assignment methodology for the efficient management of the limited spectrum resources. By applying the graph-theoretic approach, this study developed a new solution method for additional frequency assignment problem whose objective is to assign available frequencies for newly generated requirements (digital TV stations) with minimum reassignment of the preassigned frequencies to LPTV stations while meeting the interference-related constraints. The proposed algorithm can be effectively applied not only to the current digital TV introduction phase but also to the development phase with some further development. This study can be utilized as the basis for the future study on frequency assignments that aims at graceful transition from analog TV to digital TV.

  • In this paper, we consider the robust pole assignment and the upper bound of quadratic cost function for the linear systems with time-varying uncertainy. The considered uncertainties are both the norm bounded unstructured case and the structured case that has the matrix polytope type uncertain structure. We derve conditions that guarantee the robust pole assignment inside a disk in the L.H.P. and the robust stability. Also, we derive the upper bound of quadratic cost for thil pole assigned systems. Finally, we show the usefulness of our results by an example.

  • In this paper, we determine the required storage capacity of a unit-load automated storage/retrieval system(AS/RS) under random storage assignment(RAN) and n-class turnover-based storage assignment(CN) policies. For each of the storage policies, an analytic model to determine the optimal storage capacity of the AS/RS is formulated so that the total cost related to storage space and space shortage is minimized while satisfying a desired service level. A closed form of optimal solutions for the RAN policy is derived from the model. For the CN policy, an optimal storage capacity is shown to be determined by applying the existing iterative search algorithm developed for the full turnover-based storage(FULL) policy. Finally, an application of the approach to the standard economic-order-quantity inventory model is provided.

  • Virtual wavelength path (VWP) is the optical path when a wavelength conversion is possible in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network that is transmission infrastructure for the next generation high speed backbone networks. To achieve efficient design for VWP networks, we must consider VWP routing, wavelength assignment, and wavelength conversion while satisfying many technical constraints of the WDM networks. In this study we propose an integrated model for efficient VWP design in WDM networks. We also develope a 3-phase algorithm, each of which deals with routing, wavelength assignment and route and wavelength reassignment, respectively. In our computational experiments, phase 1 algorithm can solve the problem to the optimality for medium size test networks. Phase 2 algorithm is an efficient heuristic based on a reduced layered network and can give us an effective wavelength assignment. Finally, phase 3 algorithm reconfigure VWP routing and its wavelength assignment to concentrate wavelength conversion nodes in the suggested VWP network.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic wavelength assignment algorithm in distributed WDM (Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) networks without wavelength conversion. The algorithm tries to assign a locally-most-used wavelength distributedly on a fixed routing path. We first formulate our algorithm by using the concept of a sample space which consists of optical fibers connected to nodes on a routing path of a lightpath to be assigned a wavelength. In particular, we analyze the blocking performance mathematically as compared with that of the most-used (MU) wavelength assignment algorithm previously proposed for WDM networks under centralized control. We also obtain numerical results by simulation on the blocking performance of other centralized/distributed wavelength assignment algorithms as well as our algorithm using the M/M/c/c dynamic traffic model. Consequently, we show that analytical results match simulation results and that our algorithm is efficient in distributed WDM networks in terms of blocking performance, control traffic overhead and computation complexity.
