Success of the construction companies is based on the successful completion of projects within the agreed cost and time limits. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have recently attracted much attention because of their ability to solve the qualitative and quantitative problems faced in the construction industry. For the estimation of cost and duration different ANN models were developed. The database consists of data collected from completed projects. The same data is normalised and used as inputs and targets for developing ANN models. The models are trained, tested and validated using MATLAB R2013a Software. The results obtained are the ANN predicted outputs which are compared with the actual data, from which deviation is calculated. For this purpose, two successfully completed highway road projects are considered. The Nftool (Neural network fitting tool) and Nntool (Neural network/ Data Manager) approaches are used in this study. Using Nftool with trainlm as training function and Nntool with trainbr as the training function, both the Projects A and B have been carried out. Statistical analysis is carried out for the developed models. The application of neural networks when forming a preliminary estimate, would reduce the time and cost of data processing. It helps the contractor to take the decision much easier.
Evolutionary Artificial Neural Networks (EANNs) has been highly effective in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in training NPCs in video games. When EANNs is applied to design game NPCs' smart AI which can make the game more interesting, there always comes two important problems: the more complex situation NPCs are in, the more complex structure of neural networks needed which leads to large operation cost. In this paper, the Dynamic State Evolutionary Neural Networks (DSENNs) is proposed based on EANNs which deletes or fixes the connection of the neurons to reduce the operation cost in evolution and evaluation process. Darwin Platform is chosen as our test bed to show its efficiency: Darwin offers the competitive team game playing behaviors by teams of virtual football game players.

This article suggests integrated neural network models for the interest rate forecasting using change point detection. The basic concept of proposed model is to obtain intervals divided by change point, to identify them as change-point groups, and to involve them in interest rate forecasting. the proposed models consist of three stages. The first stage is to detect successive change points in interest rate dataset. The second stage is to forecast change-point group with data mining classifiers. The final stage is to forecast the desired output with BPN. Based on this structure, we propose three integrated neural network models in terms of data mining classifier: (1) multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA)-supported neural network model, (2) case based reasoning (CBR)-supported neural network model and (3) backpropagation neural networks (BPN)-supported neural network model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural networks (BPN)-supported neural network model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of three classifiers (MDA, CBR and BPN) can perform better. This article is then to examine the predictability of integrated neural network models for interest rate forecasting using change-point detection.

This study considers an implementation of artificial neural networks to the receding horizon optimal control and is applications to power systems. The Generalized Backpropagation-Through-Time (GBTT) algorithm is presented to deal with a quadratic cost function defined in a finite-time horizon. A decentralized approach is used to control the complex global system with simpler local controllers that need only local information. A Neural network based Receding horizon Optimal Control (NROC) 1aw is derived for the local nonlinear systems. The proposed NROC scheme is implemented with two artificial neural networks, Identification Neural Network (IDNN) and Optimal Control Neural Network (OCNN). The proposed NROC is applied to a power system to improve the damping of the low-frequency oscillation. The simulation results show that the NROC based power system stabilizer performs well with good damping for different loading conditions and fault types.

It is necessary for prediction of recycled aggregate concrete(RAC) strength at the early stage that facilitate concrete form removal and scheduling for construction. However, to predict RAC strength is difficult because of being influenced by complicated many factors. Therefore, this research suggest optimized estimation method that can reflect many factors. One way is Case-Based Reasoning(CBR) that solved new problems by adapting solutions to similar problems solved in the past, which are solved in the case library. Other way is Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) that solved new problems by training using a set of data, which is representative of problem domain. This study is to propose comparing accuracy of the estimating the compressive strength of recycled aggregate concrete using Case-Based Reasoning(CBR) and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN).

The presence of cracks in mechanical components is a very important problem that, if it is not detected on time, can lead to high economic costs and serious personal injuries. This work presents a methodology focused on identifying cracks in unbalanced rotors, which are some of the most frequent mechanical elements in industry. The proposed method is based on Artificial Neural Networks that give a solution to the presented inverse problem. They allow to estimate unknown crack parameters, specifically, the crack depth and the eccentricity angle, depending on the dynamic behavior of the rotor. The necessary data to train the developed Artificial Neural Network have been obtained from the frequency spectrum of the displacements of the well- known cracked Jeffcott rotor model, which takes into account the crack breathing mechanism during a shaft rotation. The proposed method is applicable to any rotating machine and it could contribute to establish adequate maintenance plans.

An artificial neural network model was developed to analyze and forecast Short-term river runoff from the Naju watershed, in Korea. Error back propagation neural networks (EBPN) of hourly rainfall and runoff data were found to have a high performance In forecasting runoff. The number of hidden nodes were optimized using total error and Bayesian information criterion. Model forecasts are very accurate (i.e., relative error is less than 3% and $R^2$is greater than 0.99) for calibration and verification data sets. Increasing the time horizon for application data sets, thus mating the model suitable for flood forecasting. decreases the accuracy of the model. The resulting optimal EBPN models for forecasting hourly runoff consists of ten rainfall and four runoff data(ANN0410 model) and ten rainfall and ten runoff data(ANN1010 model). Performances of the ANN0410 and ANN1010 models remain satisfactory up to 6 hours (i.e., $R^2$is greater than 0.92).
The steam generator feedwater flow rate in a nuclear power plant was estimated by means of artificial neural networks with the wavelet analysis for enhanced information extraction. The fouling of venturi meters, used for steam generator feedwater flow rate in pressurized water reactors, may result in unnecessary plant power derating. The backpropagation network was used to generate models of signals for a pressurized water reactor. Multiple-input single-output heteroassociative networks were used for evaluating the feedwater flow rate as a function of a set of related variables. The wavelet was used as a low pass filter eliminating the noise from the raw signals. The results have shown that possible fouling of venturi can be detected by neural networks, and the feedwater flow rate can be predicted as an alternative to existing methods. The research has also indicated that the decomposition of signals by wavelet transform is a powerful approach to signal analysis for denoising.
On community data. sampled in regular intervals on a long-term basis. artificial neural networks were implemented to extract information on characterizing patterns of community changes. The Adaptive Resonance Theory and Kohonen Network were both utilized in learning benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the Soktae Stream of the Suyong River collected monthly for three years. Initially, by regarding each monthly collection as a separate sample unit, communities were grouped into similar patterns after training with the networks. Subsequently, changes in communities in a sequence of samplings (e.g., two-month, four-month, etc.) were given as input to the networks. After training, it was possible to recognize new data set in line with the sampling procedure. Through the comparative study on benthic macroinvertebrates with these learning processes, patterns of community changes in chironomids diverged while those of the total benthic macro-invertebrates tended to be more stable.
The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing, and AI models are increasingly applied in the medical field, especially in medical imaging, pathology, natural language processing, and biosignal analysis. On the basis of these advances, telemedicine, which allows people to receive medical services outside of hospitals or clinics, is also developing in many countries. The mechanisms of deep learning used in medical AI include convolutional neural networks, residual neural networks, and generative adversarial networks. Herein, we investigate the possibility of using these AI methods in the field of craniofacial surgery, with potential applications including craniofacial trauma, congenital anomalies, and cosmetic surgery.
