Wireless Localization Technology Survey and Analysis (무선 측위 기술 조사 및 분석)

  • Localization information of an object can be a very useful element for many application areas. Presently, GPS is typically used for it, but many researches on the wireless localization technology are going on recently actively using mobile communication network, wireless sensor network, and ad hoc network in order to overcome the limitations of the GPS such as indoor, cost, power consumption, and etc. Therefore, this article surveys the most representative wireless localization techniques, which can be deployed in the wireless networks, and their principles and performances are analyzed based on the researched papers. In a conclusion, selection of a localization technique should consider the key design elements to a given application from the design elements such as localization environment, accuracy, time to fix, computation amount, implementation ease, and etc.

An Experimental Fault Analysis and Speed Control of an Induction Motor using Motor Solver

  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of three phase induction motor considering its stator side faults and operating thermal limits. The speed control of induction motor using three phase boost converter operated by a MOSFET switch and a PI controller is demonstrated and presented in this article. IGBTs switches are used for inverter drive mechanism. The experimental result of speed control of induction motor using voltage control technique clearly shows better accuracy than conventional methods of speed control. A three phase 1HP 415V 0.78 kW 4 Pole induction motor is designed using motor solver software. Based on the parameters used in the software thermal analysis of induction motor is done and torque variation with conductor area, efficiency, output curve, losses in different parts of motor has been obtained. Also different types of faults namely under voltage, over voltage, stator imbalanced voltage, turn to turn, locked rotor bar, wrong alignment of rotor bar with respect to stator are studied and fault analysis is performed. Hence comparison is made based upon the results obtained before and after faults.

A Study on the Energy Saving Methods of a House by Passive System (건축적 수법을 통한 주택의 에너지 절약 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the energy consumption has been sharply increased and the environmental pollution has been serious, resulted in increased use of fossil fuel. These facts are applied to most fields, and are especially important issues in the field of architecture. The energy consumption rate of building is about 30% of all energy consumption, and the rate of residential is about 20% of the rate of building and is increasing gradually. The purpose of this article is firstly to analyse an actual energy consumption rate of model building and compare it with alternative methods, which are applied passive system to, and secondly to suggest an optimal passive method for saving energy. The conclusion of this study is as follows; 1) As compared with the existing house on actual energy consumption rate, 6% in changing orientation to a south, 9% in using double low-e glazing and 23% in shading is decreased. 2) The change of insulation from 50 to 100mm did not show dramatical difference in energy consumption rate. 3) As changed indoor temperature at 2$0^{\circ}C$ in winter and 27$^{\circ}C$ in summer, the rate shows a reduction of 14% compared with the existing condition.

Yield Gap Analysis of Mulberry Sericulture in Northwest India

  • At the interface of reducing agricultural income and increasing unemployment in agrarian economy of rural India, this article summarizes and evaluates the state of mulberry sericulture in northwest India, which includes Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. In $11^{th}$ plan period (2007-2012), there was an addition of 6 196 ha (217.09 %) of mulberry acreage at annual linier growth rate of 33.44%. However, total silk production could increase only by 54.64 MT (78.57%) at annual linier growth rate of 15.59 %, due to 43.93% (10.82 kg/ha) reduction in silk productivity at negative growth rate of -13.46%, annually. And now, average raw silk productivity in north-western states of India remains at 13.81 kg/ha, which is lower by 452.93 % (76.36 kg) in comparison to the national average of 100.90 kg/ha. Paper summaries the reasons for increasing cocoon yield gap at farmer's level and discuss the ways and means to increase raw silk productivity to improve the livelihood delivery of mulberry sericulture in northwest India.

A Study on the Interpretation and Application of Investment Treaties for Arbitral Award under International Investment Disputes (국제투자분쟁에서 중재판정시 투자조약의 해석과 적용에 관한 연구)

  • The interpretation and application of investment treaties takes place mostly by ad hoc tribunals. Their composition varies from case to case. But in interpreting and applying investment treaties are bound to exist on a ground rule and coherent criteria. Given summarizing contents of this study, those are as follows. When interpreting investment treaties, (i) most tribunals is based on Article 31 and 32 of the VCLT, (ii) tribunals rely on previous decisions, (iii) tribunals resort to travaux pr$\acute{e}$paratoires, (iv) tribunals consider the interpretative statement. When applying investment treaties, (i) treaties apply only in relation to acts or events that occurred after their entry into force, (ii) tribunals have applied different inter-temporal rules to jurisdictional clauses and substantive provisions in treaties, (iii) the relevant date for purposes of jurisdiction is the date of the institution of proceedings, (iv) Under the ICSID convention, the host state and investor's nationality must be a party to the convention on the date the proceedings are instituted. This study is expected to possibly become guideline in the interpretation and application standards of investment treaties. So future disputes can be prevented and prepared in advance.

  • DARPA carries out several R&D programs for hypersonic vehicles to maintain the U.S. military superiority in air and space. Falcon program is the core of the DARPA's activitiy for the hypersonics including the long-term step-by-step approach from HTV-1, HTV-2, HTV-3X to HCV. Hypersonic Turbo-Based Combined Cycle (TBCC) engine technologies research and development programs, HiSTED, FaCET and Vulcan, are also the parts of their activities. Present article presents the summarized review on the backgrounds, technologies and relationships of those programs.

SiC based Technology for High Power Electronics and Packaging Applications

  • Silicon has been most widely used semiconductor material for power electronic systems. However, Si-based power devices have attained their working limits and there are a lot of efforts for alternative Si-based power devices for better performance. Advances in power electronics have improved the efficiency, size, weight and materials cost. New wide band gap materials such as SiC have now been introduced for high power applications. SiC power devices have been evolved from lab scale to a viable alternative to Si electronics in high-efficiency and high-power density applications. In this article, the potential impact of SiC devices for power applications will be discussed along with their Si counterpart in terms of higher switching performance, higher voltages and higher power density. The recent progress in the development of high voltage power semiconductor devices is reviewed. Future trends in device development and industrialization are also addressed.

  • Generally, the first stage of a launch vehicle requires high thrust to achieve a mission. We can use one high thrust level engine or a clustered engine system which made of several small thrust level engines to make high thrust. The first stage propulsion system of KSLV-II has 300tf thrust to satisfy the mission. But it is impractical to make high thrust by one engine at this moment in time. So we should cluster four 75tf class engines which can be applied to make a required thrust for the first stage propulsion system. This article deals with the concept of the first stage clustered engine arrangement of KSLV-II.

  • As International arbitration has increased in popularity, there has been an expansion in the pool of arbitrators, and a commensurate diversification of not only the legal backgrounds but cultural backgrounds among themand among parties. As a result, there has been increased attention on the standards used to evaluate arbitrators' conduct and ethics, especially among them, 'Impartiality and Independence of Arbitrator' which is a precondition for an acceptable awards. There is no international treaty or code governing these issues. But the International Bar Association(IBA) seems to be leading the way such as establishing practical guidelines regarding to impartiality and independence of arbitrator. This article will review some theories, cases about impartiality and independence of arbitrator, and practical standards through the IBA guidelines. It is intended to provide specific guidance and criteria to the arbitrators, parties and counsels. And also it is expected to prevent unnecessary delays in arbitration proceedings in advance and filing for the annulment of arbitral awards because of lack of impartiality and independence of arbitrator as well.

Analysis of a Flow Passage Opening Device using RecurDyn (RecurDyn을 활용한 가속도추종 유로개방장치 해석)

  • A special part such as a flow passage opening device is required to prevent the disconnection of fuel transfer in a pressurized fuel tank. To meet this requirement, the device utilizing an acceleration follow-up technique was invented. RecurDyn, a dynamic analysis tool, is introduced in this article to predict the device's performance and to determine parameters affecting it. In the analysis, it is shown that balancing weights can open the passage in accordance with fuel position.
