In dense cities, which are covered by many impermeable areas, rainwater flows quickly along the roads and collects in certain areas. The surface runoff that fails to get intercepted by the roadside rain gutters results in a wider flow of water along the sides, which in turn increases the amount of water on the road and causes traffic congestion as well as accidents due to slippage. Based on these issues, this study was carried out in order to propose an intercepted flow calculation formula. To this end, the maximum longitudinal slopes of arterial roads and expressways were reflected to depict a road condition of 2~10 %, while a general traverse slope of 2 % was selected for the traverse slope on the side. As for the road lane condition, two, three, and four lanes were chosen for the area from the centerline to the sidewalk. As for the experimental flow rate, the rainwater runoffs at the actual design frequency of 5, 10, 20, and 30 years for road conditions were converted into experimental flow rates, and as a result, flow rates ranging from 1.36 l/s to 3.96 l/s were divided into ten flow rates for a hydraulic experiment. Also, an equation taking into consideration the inflow velocity and flow width along the roadsides was proposed. The results of the experiment showed an increase in flow width and a decrease in interception rate. Also, the inflow velocity at a traverse slope of 2 % was measured, while increasing the longitudinal slope. Accordingly, an equation for calculating the flow intercepted by rain gutters at a flow width reflecting the longitudinal slope of the road and rainwater runoff, according to the design frequency, was derived by performing a regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 24. It is deemed that the equation derived in this study will be useful in designing rain gutters for roads.
LOS(Level of Service) concept are popularly used in many countries as the MOEs to evaluate the road construction and operation plans. However, MOEs such as travel time and delay only measure quantitative factors describing traffic flow, although qualitative factors such as scenic, comfort and reliable factors are very important for roadway drivers to define the LOS. Therefore, this paper are focusing on verifying the difference between perceived LOS and LOS in KHCM, and proving qualitative factors affecting Drivers' Perceived LOS in Urban Arterial. As a result, following outputs are obtained; (1) verifying the difference between perceived LOS(PLOS) and LOS in KHCM (2) proving that qualitative factors such as scenic and driver behavior factors affects PLOS (3) suggesting that qualitative factors should be considered in MOEs of LOS

The purpose of this study is to detect and label the vehicles using the drone images as a way to overcome the limitation of the existing point and section detection system and vehicle gap estimation on Arterial road. In order to select the appropriate time zone, position, and altitude for the acquisition of the drone image data, the final image data was acquired by shooting under various conditions. The vehicle was detected by applying mixed Gaussian, image binarization and morphology among various image analysis techniques, and the vehicle was labeled by applying Kalman filter. As a result of the labeling rate analysis, it was confirmed that the vehicle labeling rate is 65% by detecting 185 out of 285 vehicles. The gap was calculated by pixel unitization, and the results were verified through comparison and analysis with Daum maps. As a result, the gap error was less than 5m and the mean error was 1.67m with the preceding vehicle and 1.1m with the following vehicle. The gaps estimated in this study can be used as the density of the urban roads and the criteria for judging the service level.
There are many limitations in dealing with rapidly changing traffic demand in urban cities. Thus recently, traffic operation and management skills are more emphasized rather than the expansion of traffic facilities. In particular, in the interrupted flow formed by signalized intersections, it is quite important to give optimal signal timing to each intersection with consideration of progression. However, as fixed signal times per direction can affect passing capacity in signalized intersections, the present four-signal phase including a left-turn signal has many limitations, including reduction of directional road capacity when traffic demand is increases dramatically during peak hours. Because of this problem, lots of studies about internal metering techniques for oversaturated signal control skills have progressed but these techniques are not used widely due to the absence of detectors for queue sensing in real-time signal control systems. In this research, a new methodology called the "restrictive left-turn signal control", which is already used at the intersection above Samsung subway station, is suggested in order to reduce control delay of urban arterial roads. The restrictive left-turn signal control allows a driver to make a U-turn and then a right turn instead of turning left in that intersection. With this change, the restrictive left-turn signal control can contribute to increased intersection capacity by reducing the number of signal phases and maximizing the through phase time. However, road structure and traffic conditions at the target intersections should be considered before the adoption of the proposed signal control.

The aim of this study is which factors affect the commercial land values and how they act upon them through distribution of commercial land values by multiple regression analysis in Gwangju city. The major findings of this study are as follows: (1) The changes of commercial land values distribution in $1989{\sim}1996$, We see that the commercial area of higher land values extends following the main arterial road. This is related to urbanization in urban fringe while the decline of commercial land values occurs in city center with long history of commercial region. This is due to unsuitableness in rapid changes of commercial environment because of fragmented lots, old buildings. traffic congestion etc. (2) The regions where commercial land values greatly rose are the west in constructed the new planning city center of Sangmu-dong. and the south west in which is related to the extension of high density apartment and the location of big discount stores. (3) Through the changes in commercial land values distribution map. and road map, topographical map, we know that commercial land values is related to various factors; namely, distance from CBD, convenient traffic, reputation of commercial district, condition of a road, size of supplementary, a degree of commercial land use etc. (4) From the above related factor, six variables are extracted by operational definition. That is the spatial distance from the city center, the walking distance to a stopping place, the road width, the amount of bus traffic, the amount of pedestrian, the number of the shop. (5) Data of seven variables are collected on the highest values point of each Dong. We applicate multiple regression analysis with commercial land values as a dependent variable, extracted six variables as independent variables. (6) As a result of multiple regression on the determinants of commercial land values, the variables which is greatly related to commercial land values are the amount of pedestrain, the spatial distance from city center. We identify that two variables explain variance of the commercial land values by 65%. (7) In order to make clear about not explained 35%. we carry out analysis of residual. In consequence, we see small estimate in downtown area and large estimate in urban fringe. This feature is due to simple core structure of Gwangju city and limits of this regression model.
Nowadays, the movement of commercial vehicles has caused severe congestion, environmental problems and damaged pavements in urban area. To solve the Problems, this research has proposed a methodology to build-up a freight network that is enable to manage the movement and demand of commercial vehicles. The network based on urban arterial network has developed according to freight traffic volume that is under the influence of road types among The in study area. Freight network has been developed by assignment method of 4-step transportation forecasting. Once, acceptable limits of freight traffic volume are decided, freight network can be developed using the capacity To confirm the application of the methodology, freight network of Seoul city has developed by the methodology.
PURPOSES : This study evaluated the field applicability and laboratory performance of glass fiber-reinforced asphalt (GFRA) mixtures. METHODS : The general hot-mix asphalt (HMA) and GFRA mixtures were paved in five sites, including three national highways, one express highway, and an arterial road, to evaluate field applicability and durability. The plant mixing and construction method for the GFRA were similar to those for the general HMA. The lab performances of the field samples were relatively compared through the mechanical measures from the Marshall stability, indirect tensile strength, and dynamic stability. The field performance was surveyed after a year. RESULTS : The lab tests verified the superior lab performances of the GFRA compared to the general HMA. The Marshall stability of the GFRA increased for about 128% of the general HMA. The indirect tensile strength of the GFRA was 115% greater than that of the general HMA. The dynamic stability of the GFRA resulted in 16,180 reps/mm, which indicated that high rut resistance may be expected. No noticeable defects, such as cracks or deformation, were observed for the GFRA sections after a year. CONCLUSIONS : The lab tests and field survey for the five GFRA sites resulted in superior performances compared to the general HMA. The relatively low-cost GFRA, which required no pre-processing procedures, such as polymer modification, may be a promising alternative to the polymer-modified asphalt mixtures. The long-term performance will be verified by the superior field durability of the GFRA in the near future.

In an effort to preserve biodiversity in increasingly fragmented green patches, Korea has been installing eco-corridors over or under some arterial or expressways. In a survey of 43 such eco-corridors installed up until the year 2003, some problems and issues were identified. Some selected overseas eco-corridors were also investigated to find implications for the improvements of future installations in Korea. Major findings are; - For most existing eco-corridors, target species are not specified and locations of the eco-corridors are not well considered, and consequently it is questionable if wildlifes are crossing them - Most of existing eco-corridors lack supporting facilities such as fences that guide wildlife to cross them and prevent them from running into the road - Planting on the eco-corridors is not sufficient, not diverse enough in species, and not very considerate of wildlife but designed and planted in a similar manner as in urban parks - Where target species are not well specified, the location, width, cross section, and other aspects of the eco-corridors can not be optimized - It is suggested that eco-corridors are planned at early stages of road planning so that the number and locations of eco-corridor(s) decided as necessary and even the alignment and design of roads consider the installation of eco-corridors in advance - Monitoring of wildlife crossings is needed for improved eco-corridor planning and design - Nationwide green network plan is desirable to be made first and eco-corridors fit into it.
In the last five years, Korea has supplied many more bicycle facilities than in the last several decades combined. However, have bicyclists increased in proportion to investment? If bicyclists are avoiding existing bicycle related facilities, including off-road bicycle facilities, it could be because suppliers did not consider bicyclists' preferences in their planning process. In this paper, the authors tried to understand the bicyclists' behavioral and route choice characteristics using stated preference surveys and a logit model, using commuting time in Daejeon Metropolitan City, Korea. The results show that nine factors affect the route choice behavior of bicyclists. In particular, bicyclists preferred sub-arterial roads to off-road, dedicated bicycle facilities in residential area. It means that bicyclists like a seamless bicycle route and that a buffer zone between car lanes and bicycle lanes or 50 km/h speed limits for cars are necessary for bicycle lanes that are not physical separated.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of downward speed limit of urban arterial roads at 29 sites in Busan Metropolitan Police Agency to reduce road traffic accidents from '10 to '15. As a result of analyzing the traffic accidents occurred for 1~3 years after the decrease in the speed limit, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 3.09% and the number of injured persons decreased by 8.76%, but the number of deaths decreased by 36.73% The results of this study are as follows. The average speed reduction rate of 6.31km/h was decreased by investigating the change of the vehicle speed before and after the downward speed limit, and the change of average speed was statistically significant in most of the sections. The rate of compliance with the speed limit increased by 10.26% p, which is considered to have greatly improved overall traffic safety. A survey conducted by residents near the target area with a lower speed limit showed that 57.9% of the respondents felt the driving speed of the vehicle was lowered. However, this project was focused on vehicles with limited speed road signs and traffic safety signs, Only 25.8% of respondents said walking safety was improved. In the future, it is necessary to consider the safety of pedestrians by improving roads around roads such as road curvature and separation. In addition, there is a clear positive result in terms of decreasing the fatal accidents in the downward speed limit zone of Busan Metropolitan Subway. However, more detailed analysis is needed for the 29 accidents. Therefore, it is expected that traffic practitioners will be able to utilize it as a basis to increase the accident reduction effect by setting an appropriate speed limit based on the easy and objective grounds.
