Teaching the Derivation of Area Formulas for Polygonal Regions through Dissection-Motion-Operations (DMO): A Visual Reasoning Approach

  • Utilizing a structure of operations known as Dissection-Motion-Operations (DMO), a set of mathematics propositions or area-formulas in school mathematics will be introduced through shape-to-shape transforms. The underlying theme for DMO is problem-solving through visual reasoning and proving manipulatively or electronically vs. rote learning and memorization. Visual reasoning is the focus here where two operations that constitute DMO are utilized. One operation is known as Dissection (or Decomposition) operation that operates on a given region in 2D or 3D and dissects it into a number of subregions. The second operation is known as Motion (or Composition) operation applied on the resultant sub-regions to form a distinct area (or volume)-equivalent region. In 2D for example, DMO can transform a given polygon into a variety of new and distinct polygons each of which is area-equivalent to the original polygon (cf [Rahim, M. H. & Sawada, D. (1986).   • Methods of Rock fragmentation are used rock of housing repair development at KU-SAN DONG area in seoul Youn-Pyong Ku. So, Theorical analyses of the effect of vibration and frequency on structural damage around old housed also discussed. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. A area(Rock area not more than 15m Ku-San Mention) Some Empirical equations were obtained $V=K\{{\frac{D}{W}}1/3\}^{-n}$ where the values for n and K are estimated to be -1.64 and 94 respectively, this values were obtained only theorical analyses. If we have 125g charge this area is impossible blasting operation, so this area must be worked by SRS(Super Rock Splitter) method. 2. B area(Rock area from 15m to 25m in a boundary line from Ku-San Mention) This area charge is about 125g in a delay time by some empirical equation s. So, this area can be blasting operations by small charge. 3. C area(Rock area from 25m to 35m in a boundary line from Ku-San Mention) This area charge is about 500g in delay time by some empirical equation s. So, this area can be blasting operations by middle charge. 4. D area(Rock area more then 35m in a boundary line from Ku-San Mention) This area charge is about 1000g in a delay time by some empirical equation s. So, this area can be blasting operations by middle charge.

  • The importance of information systems(IS) operations and maintenance is increasing as the costs of IS operations and maintenance take larger share of total IS costs and organization's dependency on IS is increasing. However, this area has received relatively little attention from scholars and practitioners despite of its significance. The main objectives of this study are to provide practical guidelines for improving IS operations and maintenance practices, and to propose a research framework for this area. To accomplish this objectives, the following three issues are investigated. First, IS operations and maintenance practices of a case company are analyzed. Second, the current practices are compared with best practices. Finally, suggestions are made based on the analyses to improve the IS operations and maintenance practices.

  • A patroller is to protect a patrol area with a certain length front D by proceeding at constant speed on courses parallel to the patrol front, traveling back and forth between area boundaries and reversing course at each area boundary. Transitors enter the area uniformly distributed across the patrol front on a course perpendicular to the patrol front. Any transitor that closes the patroller to within his sweep radius R is detected. This paper use plane trigonometry to derive the theoretical probailities of detection and develop a Monte Carlo computer simulation Model.

Vital area identification for the physical protection of NPPs in low-power and shutdown operations

  • Vital area identification (VAI) is an essential procedure for the design of physical protection systems (PPSs) for nuclear power plants (NPPs). The purpose of PPS design is to protect vital areas. VAI has been improved continuously to overcome the shortcomings of previous VAI generations. In first-generation VAI, a sabotage fault tree was developed directly without reusing probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) results or information. In second-generation VAI, VAI model was constructed from all PSA event trees and fault trees. While in third-generation VAI, it was developed from the simplified PSA event trees and fault trees. While VAIs have been performed for NPPs in full-power operations, VAI for NPPs in low-power and shutdown (LPSD) operations has not been studied and performed, even though NPPs in LPSD operations are very vulnerable to sabotage due to the very crowded nature of NPP maintenance. This study is the first to research and apply VAI to LPSD operation of NPP. Here, the third-generation VAI method for full-power operation of NPP was adapted to the VAI of LPSD operation. In this study, LPSD VAI for a few plant operational states (POSs) was performed. Furthermore, the operation strategy of vital areas for both full-power and LPSD operations was discussed. The LPSD VAI method discussed in this paper can be easily applied to all POSs. The method and insights in this study can be important for future LPSD VAI that reflects various LPSD operational states. Regulatory bodies and electric utilities can take advantage of this LPSD VAI method.

미래 한국 해병대의 도서지역 작전수행 연구: 해양거부 관점에서 (A Study on Future Operations of the ROK Marine Corps in Island Area: From the Perspective of Sea Denial)

  • 최근 중국의 부상은 미중 간 패권경쟁의 심화를 촉진할 가능성이 있다. 중국은 반접근/지역거부(A2/AD)로 대표되는 해양에서의 군사행동을 통해 역내에서 영향력을 강화하고 있다. 미국은 중국의 A2/AD에 대응하고 미중 경쟁에서 우위를 달성하기 위해 새로운 작전개념을 정립하고 있다. 특히, 본 연구는 미 해병대가 주로 도서를 중심으로 한원정전진기지작전(EABO)을 통해 해양거부의 수단으로서 해군작전에 기여하고, 해양에서의 영향력 강화를 위한 변화에 주목하였다. 이러한 미 해병대의 변화를 한국 해병대에 적용하여 합동 및 해군작전에 기여할 수 있는 미래 한국 해병대의 공세적 도서지역 작전수행 방향을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 도서의 전략적 가치를 활용한 해병대의 공세적 도서지역 작전수행을 해양거부의 관점에서 제시하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 그러나 작전수행과 군사력 건설 / 발전방향을 개념적으로 제시하여 향후 이 부분에 대한 구체적인 논의가 필요하다. 본 연구가 그 출발점이 되기를 기대한다.
