  • This paper considers Bayes estimations of the small area means under Fay-Herriot model with measurement errors. We provide empirical Bayes predictors of small area means with the corresponding jackknifed mean squared prediction errors. Also we obtain hierarchical Bayes predictors and the corresponding posterior standard deviations using Gibbs sampling. Numerical studies are provided to illustrate our methods and compare their eciencies.

  • We study a semiparametric Bayesian approach to small area estimation under a nested error linear regression model with area level covariate subject to measurement error. Consideration is given to radial basis functions for the regression spline and knots on a grid of equally spaced sample quantiles of covariate with measurement errors in the nested error linear regression model setup. We conduct a hierarchical Bayesian structural measurement error model for small areas and prove the propriety of the joint posterior based on a given hierarchical Bayesian framework since some priors are defined non-informative improper priors that uses Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods to fit it. Our methodology is illustrated using numerical examples to compare possible models based on model adequacy criteria; in addition, analysis is conducted based on real data.

  • Concentrations of hydrogen sulfide in ambient air have been measured from January 2014 to June 2016 in a coastal area near the Ulsan National Industrial Complex. The measurement sites were 1 km, 2.6 km, 5.6 km, and 20 km away from a kraft pulp mill, which is located at the most southern edge of the complex. Concentrations above 0.4 ppb were monitored every 5 min and the highest concentration of the day was determined. From a total of 775 measurement days, hydrogen sulfide concentrations > 20 ppb were recorded on 36 and 38 days at the measurement site closest to the mill and the residential area 2.6 km away from the mill, respectively. At the site farthest from the mill, the concentrations were always 20 ppb lower than the malodor regulation for the residential area but sometimes higher than the odor recognition threshold for hydrogen sulfide. Although several emission sources of hydrogen sulfide have been published in the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register of Korea, the kraft pulp mill is considered to be the biggest contributor of atmospheric hydrogen sulfide in the southern coastal area of Ulsan.

  • Recently, the Korean women has been steadily growing in number of wearing slacks , therefore the measurement data on lower part of body for slacks pattern construction have become needed. Thus, in order to obtain the measurement data, 304 of sophomore and junior classes form universities and colleges in Seoul city area were selected on purposed and , set to the object of study. In the course of measurement , thirteen items on lower part of body which is the basis of slacks pattern construction were measured, and then average balue, standard deviation and the mutual correlation were obtained.

  • Realtime visibility measurement using camera is a new method which can collect some realtime visibility data similar to those of the human eyes, and can replace the existing methods using the expensive optical equipment. There have been a few attempts to measure visibility by extracting depth and three-dimensional structure under bad weather conditions. However, if there are many movements of objects in the image, these approaches seem to be inappropriate. In addition, the realtime visibility measurement will require a relatively simple and fast processing. Typically the contrast degrades exponentially in the bad weather. Therefore, in this paper we propose an easy and quick method that extract contrast from images using a moving area filter and measure visibility by mathematically modelling of the relationship between image contrast and visibility. The moving area filter is used for removing the area of the sky and moving objects that affect visibility measurement on images. The method proposed here can make possible not only realtime visibility measurement from images taken by CCD cameras, but also steady visibility measurement by using the moving area filter in case of much traffic on the road.

  • The patients who visited the Health Promotion Center were compared between the visceral fat area according to CT fat measurement position and the visceral fat area measured by Inbody. In the CT measurement, the visceral fat area measured at the L4-5 and CT Umbilicus positions was not different regardless of gender. In addition, there was no difference between CT visceral fat area and Inbody visceral fat area in the correlation between visceral fat area according to CT measurement position and visceral fat area measured by Inbody. The highly correlated CT measurement position were male L4-5, L5-S1, female L3-4, L4-5, L5-S1, and Umbilicus. In addition, when studying the relationship between the inbody visceral fat area and CT visceral fat area regardless of gender, it is suggested to compare the visceral fat area at the CT L4-5 position.

  • This study measured and analyzed clothing pressure at each measurement part of commercial body shapers to provide basic information for product design and clothing pressure standard and level. This study used five body shaper. Clothing pressure measurements were taken at 18points: Anterior area 8points, lateral area 5points, posterior area 5points. The findings of this study were as follows. As a result of measuring the clothing pressure, the body shaper 1 showed the highest pressure, and body shaper 5 showed the lowest pressure at almost of the measurement points of the three body types. In some cases, body shapers 2, 3, and 4 showed different orders of pressure depending on the measurement point. The highest measured values in most body shapers were the P1 shoulder area and the P2 bust area. The lowest measurement area differed by body type, but mainly P3 underbust area, P4 thorax area and P9 axillary area, P11 waist lateral area, P13 hip lateral area. These body shapers showed different results depending on the the manufacturers and body type of middle-aged women, and because there was no standard for the pressure value. Therefore, it is necessary to design a body shaper sizing system after accurately setting the clothing pressure value for each body part of the consumer.

  • This study proposed a procedure to improve the error defection of attached cadastral maps using digital map data. In addition, this study also provided the direction for the accuracy improvement of attached cadastral maps by comparing analysis methods. - such as centroid, Lee Sallee shape index, and area index. The analysis is performed as follows. First, by using centroid measurement, the center point of cadastral maps and attached cadastral maps are compared. Secondly by using Lee Sallee shape measurement, the location accuracy of range area is investigated. Thirdly, by using area measurement, the range area within allowable error scope is verified. Based on analysis, the discrepancy between cadastral maps and the attacked cadastral maps are detected as follows; 98.2% from Lee Sallee shape index, 41.8% from centroid, 15.4% from area index in the whole error.

  • An internet-based, real-time GPS synchronized wide-area power system frequency monitoring network(FNET) has been monitoring wide-area power system frequency in continuous time in the United States. This paper analyzes the FNET measurement to the verified disturbances in the US eastern interconnected power system and simulates it using the dynamic system model. By comparing the frequency measurements with its simulation results to the same disturbances in detail, this paper finds that the sequence of monitoring points to detect the frequency fluctuation caused by the disturbances is matched well in the measured data and the simulation results. The similarity comparison index is also proposed to quantify the similarity of the compared cases. The dynamic model based simulation result is expected to compensate for the lack of FNET measurement in its applications.
