  • This study aims to analyse the method and strategy of spatial composition in the selective works of Italian architect Carlo Mollino. With the continuos renovation of the interpretative frames and method on modernity and in particular on the spatial phenomenon, works of Mollino, once disregarded by the historiography and evaluated for its peculiarity. emerge as important architectural phenomenons. The intrinsic value in his works also enable to comprehend the complexity and multiplicity of modernity in contemporary architecture. In order to achieve this preposition, six important works were analyzed with three key words, to understand comprehensively the process and the significance of each work and Mollino's contribution in the spatial composition of domestic and public spaces. Evaluation of the spatial strategies in conceptual investigations of Mollino had been underestimated to the relative poor conservation or incomprehension of various work, excluded from the categories of architectural elaborations. This study also aims to contribute, in the broad sense, the dialectical significance of modernity by emphasizing the aspects of his work related with Surrealism and vernacular tradition, as well as with its relationship with the various spatial dispositives.

  • The target of this research is the analysis about Santiago Calatravas works in harmony with the dynamics of architectural technology and aesthetics in contemporary architecture. His first design process in works starts from the observation about the from of nature. He expresses the dynamics of architecture through using the Curve freely. His works express the dynamic movement, the quality of the unique inspiration and the rhythmical impression. As both scientist and artist, Calatrava could be called a classical architect and a man of his times simultaneously. Consequently, contemporary architectural designs shall be gradually focused in the dynamics of the technology and aesthetics as Calatravas ones.

  • The aim of this study is to extract the design vocabulary of flexibility from analyzing Steven Holl' architectural works. For this purpose, the four works were selected and the design elements like their concepts, elevations, plans, furnitures, lights, materials, and colors were analyzed. The results of this study are as follows ; First, flexible design method is shown in adaptable space planning by using system of hinged panel and multi-functional furniture of various form. Second, Windows were made a plan of the geometric partition of surface and with clear materials for expanding space to outside. Third, the changing of level and the using of the phenomenological elements like a light color, water, and materials were applied for enhancing the image of the flexible space.

  • In the present architectural culture of Korea, the expression of Korean values and the contemporary trends of global architectures are not identified and arranged distinctly, so diverse tendencies are applied to the architectures of Korea recklessly. In this situation, minimal architecture is significant, which pursues the essence of architecture through the minimal materials. This thesis analyzes the characteristics of minimal architecture seeking after the essence of architecture by minimalization and examines Seung, Hyosang's architectures showing expressional traits similar to those of minimal architecture in the modem architectures of Korea, so this study can show the expressional characteristics and materials of minimal architecture. Nevertheless, it does not mean that all the Seung, Hyosang's works have the tendency of minimal architecture and that he has to be classified as a minimal architect, but it means only that the values and thoughts like the expressional traits of minimal architecture are seen in his architectural opinions! and works, which will be the subject of this study.

  • This study examines modernist grid and boundary in the works of Toyo Ito - two of the most important notions characterizing the development of Toyo Ito as an iconoclast architect. Early in his career, Ito recognized modernist architecture's inherent tendencies to establish homogenous order and divide space by function was alienating people from their context. Ito identified the notions of modernist grid and boundary as the agents of Modernism which inadvertently served to impose this systematic order and severe separation. As a reaction against these tendencies, Ito sought to avoid the use of modernist grid and blur boundary in his architecture. In Ito's career spanning over four decades, he engages in an exhaustive inquiry seeking to modify these two core elements of architecture. This study investigates these two notions in Ito's works and examines the significance of the architect's exploration in the context of Japan's Modernism.

  • This study aims at finding out the characteristics and influences of Libeskind's early drawing works through comparisons of each drawing. The importance of his experimental drawing works is not only their uniqueness but also relationship to creation and development of his architecture. Libeskind's musical and educational background had great impacts on forming his early drawings. A series of drawings including 'Micromegas', 'Chamberworks', and 'Theatrum Mundi' shows variety and experiments about reconstruction of three dimensional architectural fragments, abstractive line drawing and plane oriented painting. Libeskind himself cease to experiment drawing techniques but their characteristics still remain in his sketches, diagram and conceptual drawings. In spite of influences of undergraduate design studios, theoretical background of graduate studies, their experimental features are due to his continuous endeavor to make and develop his drawing skills and contents. As a result, his early drawings act as media and way to communicate and develop his concepts.

His creations are not limited to the world of architecture, but are widely acclaimed supported by public people as well. Why Tadao Ando's works are acknowledged and acclaimed so extensively? Japanese traditional elements used in the his works makes it so. To realize that, it is necessary the regeneration of landscape which was based on the site and self-reflection must accomplished with the nature. So as to regeneration of landscape, he used Japanese Landscape-gardening and make the nature condensed. With the su-ki, he made the architectural elements simple. And with the Japanese detoured circulation, he made deep and various space. In that way, he intended the nature which is changed with his idea experienced the way of yu-gen.

  • This study is to reveal the periodical form of the 4 staged building sites with the size and the site composition of the master plan and floor plan of the Ungjindan (altar) from the Ungjindan excavation works in 2011. In order to project the research results aiming to the purpose of the study, the basic study was done with collecting data about shrine architecture for its architectural characteristics and case studies with ancestral facilities such as the Ak hae dok (national-level ancestral ritual to the big mountain, ocean and river) to understand the exact form of the site plan and architectural composition elements through the general information and excavation status. In addition, with the current situation and information from the excavation works the planned measurement scale will be calculated in inference for the size of the construction by stages and speculate the floor plan composition of the shrine architecture.

  • The gang-form widely used in apartment construction sites has advantages compared to scaffolding in preventing falling accidents. One problem, however, is that safety accidents associated with gang-form works repeatedly occur due to worker carelessness. In this study, hierarchical checking tables are provided to support safety management activities for the gang-form works at the sites. Through a survey of experts and analyses of case studies of construction accidents, 137 safety check items are classified by participant type based on a hierarchical safety check scheme. The applicability and effectiveness of the hierarchical checking tables was evaluated through interviews with experts. It was found that the hierarchical checking tables enabled each gang-form related participant to check his own safety management items, and provided a level-wise structure to site safety management systems.

  • In building project, client needs to decide many things, and clients cooperate with architects, supervisors, general contractors and other consultants. Especially in construction phase, clients often make a decision. However, client's decision-making in construction phase often makes some kinds of risk. This paper aims to clarify the reality of client's decision-making in construction phase. First, client's decision-making is defined by laws and standards. Second, the questionnaire revealed the current status of client's decision-making in 4 works. Third, Fishbone diagram shows the factors of client's decision-making in four works. Finally, it was modeled how client's decision-making in construction phase affects the post-process of 4 works.
