Numerical analyses have been performed to obtain the absorption heat and mass transfer coefficients and the absorption mass flux from a falling film of the LiBr aqueous solution which is cooled by cooling air. Heat flux at the wall is specified in terms of the heat transfer coefficient of cooling air and the cooling air temperature. Effects of operating conditions, such as the heat transfer coefficient, the cooling air temperature, the system pressure and the solution inlet concentration have been investigated in view of the local absorption mass flux and the total mass transfer rate. Effects of film thickness and film Reynolds number on the heat and mass transfer coefficients have been also estimated. Analyses for the constant wall temperature condition have been also carried out to examine the reliability of present numerical method by comparing with previous investigations.

To resist ice adhesion on cooling wall is concerned to continuous ice formation in thermal storage system. In this study, ice slurries were formed with two ecological aqueous solution, one is ethanol+silanol and the other is propylene glycol+silanol. By freezing under stirring the solution of $300m\ell$ in a stainless steel vessel which was immersed and cooled in a temperature controlled bath, the shape of ice slurry and the strength of ice adhesion on wall was observed with measuring the temperature and stirring load variation. As the concentration is smaller and the supercooling degree is larger, the ice adhesion is easy to occur. When the stirring load is larger than$ 2.1\times10^{-5}W$, the ice adhesion occurred.

Enzymatic polymerization of cardol derived from cashew nut shell liquid have been examined. t-Butyl alcohol aqueous systems showed high yield of polycardol when SBP was as biocatalyst. Compared other solvents, peroxidase actiyity was maintained stable, which was seemed major cause. Solvent aqueous system and concentration of hydrogen peroxide were found to have an influence on the yield and molecular weight distribution of polycardol under the reaction of enzymatic polymerization using peroxidase. The polymer was subjected to the hardening by methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cobalt naphthenate catalyst, giving a crosslinked tough film. Polycardol was cured rapidly and the hardness increased with time. Finally, the pencil scratch hardness reached to 7H, which is enough hard for industrial uses.

Freezing of an aqueous sodium cWoride solution (Nacl- H20) saturating a packed bed with ini¬tial salt concentrations of 5, 10, 15(k by weight is investigated experimentally in a rectangular cav¬ity. The system was cooled from the top, bottom and a vertical side wall. For the freezing experi¬ments from below, there was little effect of the initial salt concentration throughout the freezing process, and the global freezing rate was not affected by the initial salt concentration. For the freezing from above, the size of the mush region decreased and the mushlliquid interface became flatter as the initial liquid concentration is decreased. For the freezing from vertical side wall, reheating of the mixture was intensified with an increase in the initial salt concentration. For Ci= 5%, supercooling was observed only at the early times of freezing process, but for Ci= 15% small supercooling was observed throughout the freezing process.

In the present study, the effects of Ginseng radix and Ophiopogonis tuber on field potentials in rat hippocampal slices and cardiac muscle slices were investigated by multi-channel extracellular recording using MED64 system. The field potentials in the brain slices represent synaptic transmission and nerve excitability, and the field potentials in heart muscles represent muscle contractility. The present results show that the aqueous extract of Ginseng radix enhanced field potentials in the both hippocampal slices and cardiac muscle slices. In contrast, the aqueous extract Ophiopogonis tuber exerted no significant effect on the field potentials in the hippocampal slices and cardiac muscle slices. These results suggest the possibility that Yin-Yang theory could be studied in relation with excitability in neurons and muscles.
Cationic surfactants can be used to modify surface of solids to promote adsorption of hydrophobic organic compounds. This behavior is due to the surfactant forming aggregate structure on the solid surface. Partition coefficients are commonly used to quantify the distribution of organic pollutants between the aqueous and particulate phases of aquatic system Partitioning of hydrophobic compounds to cetyltrimethylammonium bromide ( CTAB ) coated silicate has been investigated as a function of surfactant surface coverage at I=0 and 0.1 ionic strength. Toluene, Xylene, TCI sorption experiments demonstrated that the CTAB coated silicate was able to remove these hydrophobic organic compounds from solution The hydrophobic organic compound with the higher Kow had higher removals than lowest Kow hydrophobic organic compound.
Monodisperse PMMA micro spheres are prepared by means of a simple soap-free emulsion polymerization in methanol-enriched aqueous medium in a single step process. The size and uniformity of the microspheres are dependent on the polymerization temperature. In a stable system, the uniformity is improved with the polymerization time. The most uniform and stable micro spheres are obtained under mild agitation speed of 100 rpm at 70$^{\circ}C$. The monodisperse PMMA microspheres in the size range of 1.4-2.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ having less than 5% size variation are successfully achieved with varying concentrations of monomer and initiator. As the monomer and initiator concentrations increase, the larger micro spheres with enhanced uniformity are obtained. However, the decreased amount of water induces the polydisperse PMMA particles due to the generation of secondary particles.
N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide(NMMO) is recently hewn as a solvent dissolving cellulose to produce a new regenerated cellulosic fiber, lyocell. In this study, four kinds of cellulosic fibers (lyocell, regular cotton, treated cotton with 50% and 75% NMMO aqueous solution) was examined and compared in terms of mechanical properties and dyeability. The swelling of cotton treated with NMMO aqueous solution is higher than that of cotton treated with water. In dyeing rate, the cotton treated with NMMO was faster than regular cotton. NMMO treatment decreased the crystallinity of cotton fabrics and improved their softness and smoothness.
The adsorption experiment of phenol(Ph) from aqueous solution on granular activated carbon was studied in order to design the fixed-bed adsorption column. The experimental data were analyzed by unsteady-state, one-dimensional heterogeneous model. Finite element method(FEM) was applied to analyze the sensitivity of parameter and to predict the fixed-bed adsorption column performance on operation variable changes. The prediction model showed similar effect to mass transfer and intraparticle diffusion coefficient changes suggesting that both parameter present mass transfer rate limits for GAC-phenol system. The Freundlich constants had a greater effect than kinetic parameters for the performance of fixed-bed adsorption column. FEM solution facilitated prediction of concentration history in solution and within adsorbent particle.
