Liparis ingens (Gilbert et Burke) is a demersal fish belonging to Liparidae, widely distributed in the coastal waters of the east coast of Korea. On January 16, 1986, mature adults of Liparis ingens were captured by a demersal gill net near Chongdongchin-ri, Kangwon-do, Korea. The authors stripped eggs and milt, and fertilized on the ship. The eggs were incubated and the larvae were reared in laboratory. The eggs of this species are demersal and adhesive, and are pale yellow, containing many oil globules. Egg diameters were varied from 1.55 to 1.65 mm. The hatching took place in ca. 747 hours after fertilization at the water temperature of $7.09{\sim}10.99^{\circ}C$ and salinity $30.62{\sim}33.98\%0$. The newly hatched larvae were elongate in shape and $4.40{\sim}4.85mm$ in total length with $12{\sim}13$ (abdominal)+40(caudal)=$52{\sim}53$ myomeres. Many melanophores were distributed on the lower jaw, pectoral fins, yolk sac, and ventral line of the tail part. Three days after hatching, the larvae reached 5.15 to 5.25 mm in total length, and the yolk sac was almost absorbed. Some melanophores appeared on the back of auditory vesicles. Seven days after hatching, the larvae attained $5.75{\sim}5.85mm$ in total length.

We determined the optimum dietary protein level in juvenile barred knifejaw Oplegnathus fasciatus in cages. Five semi-purified isocaloric diets were formulated with white fish meal and casein-based diets to contain 35, 40, 45, 50, and 60 % crude protein (CP). Fish with an initial body weight of $7.1{\pm}0.06g$ ($mean{\pm}SD$) were randomly distributed into 15 net cages (each size: $60cm{\times}40cm{\times}90cm$, $W{\times}L{\times}H$) as groups of 20 fish in triplicates. The fish were fed at apparent satiation level twice a day. After 8 weeks of feeding, the weight gain (WG) of fish fed 45, 50, and 60 % CP diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed 35 and 40 % CP diets. However, there were no significant differences in WG among fish fed 45, 50, and 60 % CP diets. Generally, feed efficiency (FE) and specific growth rate (SGR) showed a similar trend as WG. However, the protein efficiency ratio (PER) was inversely related to dietary protein levels. Energy retention efficiency increased with the increase of dietary protein levels by protein sparing from non-protein energy sources. Blood hematocrit content was not affected by dietary protein levels. However, a significantly lower amount of hemoglobin was found in fish fed 35 % CP than in fish fed 40, 45, 50, and 60 % CP diets. Fish fed 60 % CP showed the lowest survival rate than the fish fed 35, 40, 45, and 50 % CP diets. Broken-line analysis of WG showed the optimum dietary protein level was 45.2 % with 18.8 kJ/g diet for juvenile barred knifejaw. This study has potential implication for the successful cage culture of barred knifejaw.
Fifteen diseased rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) were collected from 4 net-cage farms in Huksan island. Some round transparent nodules were observed on gill filaments in fish. Bacteriological and histopathological examinations on the diseased fish were performed. Any pathogenic bacteria could not be isolated from the internal tissues and histopathological alterations were not found in any of the tissues except the gills. Rock fish were infected with epitheliocystis, Microcotyle sebastes and unknown aetiology on the gills. Cysts of epitheliocystis measuring 44.1-68.9 $\mu{m}$ in diameter were mainly found in the distal portion of the gill filaments and sometimes in the middle portion. But host responses were moderate in spite of formation of the epithelial cysts. Some Microcotyle sebastes captured the secondary filaments with clamps on the opisthohaptor. Attachment of the parasites provoked epithelial proliferation and resulted in gill lamellar fusion.Cysts of unknown origins measuring 26-425 $\mu{m}$ in diameter were found in the cartilage of gill filaments. These cysts contained eosinophilic materials and proliferation of cartilage cells was confirmed around the cysts. But there was no significant pathological changes associated with the presence of the cysts except enlargement of the gill filament with the cysts.
This study was tried for a mathematical approaches related to daily fluctuations in the stomach fullness of Agrammus agrammus. The specimen was collected by angling and gill net from September 1984 to August 1985 off Shinsudo, Samchonpo. Fullness of the stomachs was increased in the early morning and the late afternoon, decreased in the late morning, at noon, and during the night. That is, feeding activity of the fish was more intense at sunrise and sunset. Daily feeding activity of the fish in a day was divided into the time period of gastric evacuation and both feeding and gastric evacuation. Stomach fullness with the lapse of time in the time period of gastric evacuation was geometrically decreased. Stomach fullness in the time period of both feeding and gastric evacuation was affected by gastric evacuation rates, feeding rates, and maximum fullness of the stomach. These parameters were able to estimate from the method estimating the regression coefficient in the relationship between the time(t) and the stomach fullness$(F_t)$, or between stomach fullness at the time t and $t+\Deltat$. The rates of feeding and gastric evacuation were the highest in spring and the lowest in winter. The relationships between time(t) and stomach fullness$(F_t)$ in the time period of gastric evacuation and both feeding and gastric evacuation induced from hypotheses were respectively as follows. $$F_t=F_{to}e^{-r(t-to)}$$, $$F_t=F\infty-(F\infty-F_{to})e^{-(p+r)(t-{to})}$$

Distribution of ichthyoplankton in the adjacent waters to Kori were surveyed during the period from April, 1991 to January, 1992. The dominant fish eggs included the eggs of Engraulis japonica, Maurolicus muelleri, Callionymus spp. and others. The eggs of Engrualis japonica and Maurolicus muelleri were $79.52\%$ and $1.86\%$ of the total eggs abundance, respectively. A total of 15 taxa of fish larvae were found. The dominant species was Engraulis japonica accounting for $52.39\%$ of the total larvae and followed by Callionymidae fish($29.36\%$). Other major species were Stephanolepis cirrhifer($6.30\%$), Sebastes schlegeli($3.16\%$), Ammodytes personatus($1.33\%$) and Girella punctata($1.70\%$). These 6 taxa constituted $94.30\%$ of the total larvae collected. In this area, distributions of warm water had a great influence on larvae and juvenile distribution which usually is along the coast and the other places where there layer water movements since, upwelling in the open sea affects ichthyoplankton distribution.
Stomach contents of fat greenling, Hexagrammos otakii were analyzed to understand feeding ecology of the fish in the coastal waters, Shinsudo, Sarhon. Specimens were collected by angling and by gill net from February 1984 to September 1985. The fish consisted of 4 age groups from 0 to 3. The food items of the fish changed slightly by seasons and with growth of the fish. Main preys were copepods, gammarids and caprellids for the fish of age group 0, gammarids and caprellids for age group 1, and brachyurans and carideans for age group 2 and 3. The prey composition of the fish were more varied by seasons than by ages. Food items was not different between male and female of the fish. The fish positively selected for gammarids, polychaetes and brachyurans, but negatively selected for gastropods. The degree of selectivities for the other preys were changed with growth. As the fish grows it consumed larger preys in case of small preys such as gammarids and caprellids, however, it did not consumed larger preys beyond an optimal size in case of large preys such as sphaeromids, brachyurans and polychaetes.
Sledge net samples were taken over the neap and spring tide cycles in January 1993 from the bottom and surface of 1 m depth and at the water's edge in the sandy shore surf zone of Dolsando, southern Korea. Zonation pattern of three dominant gammarid amphipods was compared. The amphipods were more abundant on the bottom and at water's edge than in the surface. Average densities at both sites of Pontogeneia rostrata and Allorchestes angusta were higher during the neap tide than the spring tide, whereas that of Synchelidium lenorostralum was lower during the neap tide. P. rostrata migrated horizontally during the flooding and ebbing tides, but S. lenorostralum and A. angusta did not. Unlike other species, P. rostrata was significantly more abundant at night, suggesting its active nocturnal movement. During flooding tide, P. rostrata was not found on the shore above the mean sea level (MSL) during daytime, but found in 100 cm above MSL at night. Zonal distribution of P. rostrata which was restricted from MSL to 250 cm below MSL, however, did not vary with the day-night cycle during ebbing tide. S. lenorostralum and A. angusta were not found during flooding tide but ebbing tide. The upper distribution limit of the former was 150 cm below MSL, and the distribution of the latter ranged from MSL to 150 cm below MSL. The highest densities of P. rostrata, S. lenorostralum and A. angusta were 32, 26 and 3 ind. $m^{-2}$, respectively. We discussed the relationships between the distribution pattern of three dominant species of gammarid amphipods and their life styles in the sandy shore.
In order to find out the most favorable shape and structure of pot for conger eel, Astroconger myriaster(Brevoort), the box type, tube type and flat box type of net pots and the pipe type of plastic pot were prepared. Then, the ability of the pots attracting the eel into them were investigated through a tank experiment. The attracting ability was highest in the pipe type without distinction of its length, 50cm and 60cm. In the flat box type, the effective height of pot and the diameter of entrance tip turned out 5cm respectively. But the ability was very poor in the rest pots, especially in the tube type. Thus, the pipe type and flat box type of pots were employed again in a field experiment for comparing their catches with those of the conventional bamboo and plastic pots. In the experiment, the catches were the most in the pipe type and second in the flat box type. But the bamboo and plastic pots both produced comparatively low catches, showing no significant difference between them. It was therefore concluded that the pipe type of pot might be the most favorable one for catching the conger eel.
Using a sledge net, the benthic amphipods were taken over one cycle of the neap and spring tides in January 1993 at the sandy shore surf zone of Dolsando, southern Korea. From these samples, we investigated the diel and tidal effects on the intraspecific zonation of Pontogeneia rostrata. The density of p. rostrata was higher during neap tide than spring. Of three categories (adult males and females and juveniles), juveniles and males attained to its highest density during neap and spring tides, respectively. Length- frequency data show that the high mortality of juveniles seemed to occur in winter. In the surface at night, it is significant that juveniles were significantly more abundant during neap tide than spring, whereas both adult males and females were more abundant during spring tide than neap. This suggests that the vortical migration patterns of juveniles and adults vary with the type of tides. During flood of spring tide, more than $90\%$ of population collected at the area above the mean sea level (MSL) were adults. With a decrease of female/male ratio, size of males increased there but that of female did not change, indicating an active migration of large males. This behavior can provide an extension of distribution area far large males, and also give a competitive advantage to large male against small one for mate and feeding. Although adult p. rostrata was collected at 100 cm above MSL at night during spring tide, a major portion of population as usually present on the shore below MSL. The center of zonation was restricted from 50 cm to 250 cm below MSL.

A dietary comparison of yellow goosefish Lophius litulon in the South Sea and Yellow Sea was performed by analyzing stomach contents. Using a bottom trawl net from fisheries resources survey vessels of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, 326 individuals were collected from the South Sea and 166 individuals were collected from the Yellow Sea. The total length range of L. litulon was 5.3-68.4 cm for individuals collected from the South Sea and 7.5-55.1 cm for individuals collected from the Yellow Sea. Based on the index of relative importance and the variation in stomach contents by fish size, L. litulon was found to be a piscevore and a spatiotemporally opportunistic feeder fish that fed mainly on pisces. There were differences in the composition of the stomach contents by season, location, and the interaction between the season and the location. Thus, the diet of L. litulon is affected by the prey abundance and prey spectrum of the habitat.
