Application of Digital Image Correlations (DIC) Technique on Geotechnical Reduced-Scale Model Tests

  • This paper presents illustrative examples of the application of advanced digital image correlation (DIC) technology in the geotechnical laboratory tests, such as shallow footing test, trapdoor test, retaining wall test, and wide width tensile test on geogrid. The theoretical background of the DIC technique is first introduced together with fundamental equations. Relevant reduced-scale model tests were then performed using standard sand while applying the DIC technique to capture the movement of target materials during tests. A number of different approaches were tried to obtain optimized images that allow efficient tracking of material speckles based on the DIC technique. In order to increase the trackability of soil particles, a mix of dyed and regular sand was used during the model tests while specially devised painted speckles were applied to the geogrid. A series of images taken during tests were automatically processed and analyzed using software named VIC-2D that automatically generates displacements and strains. The soil deformation field and associated failure patterns obtained from the DIC technique for each test were found to compare fairly well with the theoretical ones. Also shown is that the DIC technique can also general strains appropriate to the wide width tensile test on geogrid, It is demonstrated in this study that the advanced DIC technique can be effectively used in monitoring the deformation and strain field during a reduced-scale geotechnical model laboratory test.

  • This study was carried out to use efficiently forest resources through the survey of analysis of consciousness for the application of other use following quarrying. The application types of other use following quarrying were 366 people (49.5%) for forest recreation, 164 people (22.2%) for facility application, 117 people (15.8%) for vacation facility, and 93 people (12.6%) for tree planting types. According to the test of independence between facility utility types and gender, male preferred the leisure facility type, but female preferred the forest recreation type. The tree planting type was not related to the gender, but male preferred facility application types. Also, female preferred a static use type such as recreation and walking, while male preferred a dynamic use type such as the leisure and facility application types. According to the test of independence between facility application and occupation types students and company employees preferred the leisure facility type, while school faculty and staff, self employees, and housewives preferred the forest recreation type. Public servants preferred tree planting and facility application types. The sojourn time was the overnight and 6-8 hours in the leisure facility type, within 4 hours in the forest recreation and tree planting types, and 6-8 hours in the facility application types. Other use plans of the quarry site following quarrying will be needed to establish quarry facility application models with consideration for visitor's preferences.

  • It is important to test the various kinds of interconnect faults between chips on a card/module. When boundary scan design techniques are adopted, the chip to chip interconnection test generation and application of test patterns is greatly simplified. Various test generation algorithms have been developed for interconnect faults. A new interconnect test generation algorithm is introduced. It reduces the number of test patterns by half over present techniques. It also guarantees the complete diagnosis of mutiple interconnect faults.

A Bayes Criterion for Testing Homogeneity of Two Multivariate Normal Covariances

  • A Bayes criterion for testing the equality of covariance matrices of two multivariate normal distributions is proposed and studied. Development of the criterion invloves calculation of Bayes factor using the imaginary sample method introduced by Spiegelhalter and Smith (1982). The criterion is designed to develop a Bayesian test criterion, so that it provides an alternative test criterion to those based upon asymptotic sampling theory (such as Box's M test criterion). For the constructed criterion, numerical studies demonstrate routine application and give comparisons with the traditional test criteria.

  • An experimental study is carried out to estimate the way of applying the granulated blast furnace slag[GBFS] to the lean concrete base of concrete pavement. According to the test results, this application seems promising. For this application, mixing percent of GBFS ranging from 30 to 50 is recommendable at this stage. And performance of base mixed with GBFS is greatly affected by the curing and placing condition. As long as all requirements for application of GBFS to the base is satisfied, better performance is expected.

  • 본 논문은 프로토콜 구현물이 프로토콜의 사양에 대한 적합성을 시험하기 위한 시험항목 생성시 CPP(중국 집배원 문제) 알고리즘의 개선된 적응적 적용 방법을 제안한다. 또한 본 논문에서 제안한 개선된 CPP 알고리즘 방법이 통신 프로토콜의 적합성 시험을 위한 시험항목 생성에 어떻게 적응될 수 있는지 B-ISDN Q.2931 호/연결 제어 절차에 실례로 적용하여 본다. 본 방법의 실험적인 적용 결과 기존의 시험열 생성 방법들에 비해 최적화된 최소 비용의 시험열을 생성함을 확인하였다. 본 논문의 제안된 방법은 표준화된 사양으로부터 최소 비용의 시험항목을 구하는 최적화 기법으로써의 장점을 가지고 있는데 본 논문의 개선된 CPP 알고리즘의 이 최적화 기법은 프로토콜 구현물의 적합성을 시험하기 위한 실재 환경에 실제적으로 적용될 수 있다. 향후 연구에서는 프로토콜 적합성시험을 위한 시험항목 생성시 상위 시험기와 하위 시험기간의 시험 조정 절차에서 발생할 수 있는 동기화 문제를 해결하고 적용하는 방안이 강구되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

합성수지 거푸집의 성능평가 및 현장 적용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Performance Evaluation and Field Application of Synthetic Resin Formwork)

  • 본 논문은 합성수지 거푸집 성능평가를 위해 길이 변화율, 충격시험, 소음테스트를 실시하였다. 또한 현장 적용을 통해 합성수지 거푸집 시공성에 대해 검토하였다. 실험결과, 가열 길이 변화 시험, 충격시험은 KS기준치를 모두 만족하는 것으로 나타났다. 소음 테스트의 경우 유로폼이 평균 106dB(A)을 나타냈으며, 합성수지 거푸집은 평균 100.4dB(A)을 나타났다. 음압레벨의 경우, 합성수지 거푸집이 유로폼보다 고주파영역에서 낮게 나타나 시공시 소음 피로도가 적고 주변민원은 감소할 것으로 판단된다. 마지막으로 현장적용결과, 콘크리트 타설 중 거푸집 휨 현상이나 배부름 현상은 발생하지 않았다. 또한 콘크리트 표면 마감도가 합성수지 거푸집이 유로폼면 보다 더 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

동의신경정신과학회지에 발표된 임상연구논문들의 통계방법 기술 및 적용 현황 (Present Status of Description and Application of Statistics in Clinical study papers in the Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry.)

  • This study was done to review problems in terms of statistical description and statistical application and analysis. Methods; The authors reviewed 42 statistical clinical study papers excluding 12 Overview papers, 75 Descriptive papers, 48 Animal studies out of 177 papers in the Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry in the 5 years from 2002 to 2006. Results : 1) 3 papers(7.1%) had no description of statistical method, only P-values, 25 papaers(59.5%) had tables without description of statistical method, 1 paper (2.3%) had no description of statistical method in study method. 2) 10 papers(23.8%) contained problems in terms of statistical application and analysis. 6papers (6/23, 26.0%) for Student t-test, 2 papers(2/7 28.6%)for $X^2$- test, 1 paper(1/15 6.7%) for the analysis of variance, 1 paper(1/6 16.7%) for Pearson correlation contained statistical problems. Conclusion : It was suggested that consultation of investigators with statisticians and more extensive statistical refereeing, the form of the guidelines for description and application of statistics are needed.
