송아지 설사증에 대한 백화사설초와 어성초의 치료 효과 (The Therapeutic Effect of Oldenlandiae Herba and Houttuynia Cordata on Calf Diarrhea)

  • The purpose of this study was to elucidate the effect of Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata on calf diarrhea in farms. We examined the antibacterial and antiviral effect of Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata extracts in vitro. And we divided diarrheal calves into three roups in farm; Oldenlandiae herba administration group(10 calves), Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata administration group(10 calves) and control group(7 calves). We estimated the therapeutic effect of the calf diarrhea by using clinical signs, CBC, AST, BUN, creatinine, and measurement of lymphocyte distribution in whole blood. Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata extracts by ethanol(98%) had antibacterial and antiviral effect. In the condition of diarrhea, the fecal condition of Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata group was relieved more than that of others group during experimental period. PCV and fibrinogen concentrations were high in control group. AST and BUN were within normal range in all groups. Administration of Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata was not toxic to the liver and kidney. And Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata extracts also affected the lymphocytes distribution in blood. From these results, we suggested that administration of Oldenlandiae herba and Houttuyniae cordata should be effective on the dairy calf diarrhea in farms.

  • 본 연구는 상업용 Ortho MTA에 생체활성 유리 나노입자(bioactive glass nano particles)에 구리(Cu) 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 wt%를 첨가하여 새로운 Cu-BGn MTA를 조성하고 세균부착실험을 통한 항균효과와 물성을 평가하였다. 경화시간과 압축강도는 ISO 6876(2012) 규격에 맞추어 직경 4 mm, 두께 6 mm 시편을 제작하여 산출하였으며, 항균효과는 S. mutans, E. faecalis 2개의 균주를 이용하여 평가하였다. 실험 결과 경화시간과 압축강도는 Cu-BGn 첨가와는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>0.05). 항균실험 결과 대조군 Ortho MTA와 비교하여 Cu-BGn을 4.0 wt% 첨가한 S. mutans 실험군에서 낮은 부착 양상을 보였으며 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다(p<0.05). E. faecalis 실험군에서도 4.0 wt% 첨가한 군에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<0.05). 이는 Cu-BGn의 세균부착 억제 효과가 있음을 입증한 것이라 사료된다. 향후 구강환경을 재현시킬 수 있는 다양한 환경에서의 심도 있는 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

  • 본 연구에서는 발효 식품의 제조에 유용한 항균성 물질을 생산하는 유산균 starter의 개발의 일환으로 장내 상존균으로 알려진 Lactobacillus acidophilus group유산균인 Lactobacillus amylovorus IMC-1 균주가 생산한 항균성 물질의 식품오염세균에 대한 항균 활성을 검토하였다. 내몽골 원산 치즈에서 분리된 L. amylovorus IMC-1 균주는 탈지유배지에서 37$^{\circ}C$에서 72시간 배양하였을 때 최대로 항균성 물질을 생산하였으며, 더 이상의 배양은 항균성 물질의 생산에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 겔 여과후의 항균성 물질은 식품오염세균인 Bacillus subtilis IFO 3025, staphylococcus aureus IAM 1011, Listeria monocytogenes VTU 206, Escherichia coli RB. 및 Pseudomonas fragi IFO 3458등과 같은 모든 피검균에 대하여 20units/ml 첨가로 항균활성을 나타내었다. 그리고 이 물질은 B. subtilis, E. coli및 Ps. fragi에 대해서는 살균 작용을 나타내었으며, Staphy. aureus와 L. monocytogenes에 대해서는 정균 작용을 보였다. 그 살균 작용은 용균 작용에 기인한 것임이 밝혀졌다. 또한 이 물질은 유기산, 과산화수소 및 단백질성 물질이 아님이 밝혀졌다.

해독금화산(解毒金花散)의 Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus에 대한 항균효과 (Antibacterial Effect of Haedokgeumhwa-san against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

  • Objectives Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a human pathogen and a major cause of hospital-acquired infections. New antibacterial agents that have not been compromised by bacterial resistance are needed to treat MRSA-related infections. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial activity ofethanol extract of Haedokgeumhwa-san (HGH) which prescription is composed of korean medicine against MRSA. Methods The antibacterial activity of HGH extract was evaluated against MRSA strains by using the Disc diffusion method, broth microdilution method (minimal inhibitory concentration; MIC), checkerboard dilution test, and time-kill test; its mechanism of action was investigated by bacteriolysis, detergent or ATPase inhibitors. The checkerboard dilution test was used to examined synergistic effect of ampicillin, oxacillin, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, gentamicin and norfloxacin in combination with HGH ethanol extract. A time-kill assay was performed a survival curve which was obtained by plotting viable colony counts depending on time on bacterial growth. Results The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ethanol extract (HGH) ranged from 1,000 to $2,000{\mu}g/mL$ against all the tested bacterial strains, respectively. We are able to confirm that HGH extract has potentially strong antibacterial activity. In the checkerboard dilution test, fractional inhibitory concentration index of HGH in combination with antibiotics indicated synergy or partial synergism against S. aureus. A time-kill study showed that the growth of the tested bacteria was considerably inhibited after 8 hr of treatment with the combination of HGH with selected antibiotics. For measurement of cell membrane permeability, HGH $250{\sim}1,000{\mu}g/mL$ along with concentration of Triton X-100 (TX) and Tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (Tris) were used. In the other hand, N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodimide (DCCD) and Sodium azide ($NaN_3$) was used as an inhibitor of ATPase. TX, Tris, DCCD and $NaN_3$ cooperation against S. aureus showed synergistic action. Accordingly, antimicrobial activity of HGH was affected by cell membrane and inhibitor of ATPase. Conclusions These results suggest that Haedokgeumhwa-san extract has antibacterial activity, and that HGH extract offers a potential as a natural antibiotic against MRSA.

항균성 탄소섬유의 제조와 특성 (Preparation and properties of antibacterial activated carbon fiber)

  • 피치계 탄소섬유로부터 활성탄소섬유를 제조한 후, 이에 대하여 금속를 처리하여 금속-ACFs를 제조하였다. 제조된 금속-ACFs에 대하여 흡착 및 표면특성을 통하여 물리화학적 특성을 제시하였다. BET식으로부터 금속이 처리된 활성 탄소섬유의 비표면적을 구한 결과 Ag-ACF의 경우 136.2~1585$m^2$/g의 범위에, Cu가 처리된 활성탄소섬유에 경우 698.2~896.2$\m^2$/g의 범위에, Ni-ACF의 경우 685.2~898.2$\m^2$/g의 범위에 분포하였다. 또한 $\alpha_s$-법을 사용하여 구한 미세 동공부피는 Ag-ACF에 대하여 0.07~1.2cm^3/g, Cu-ACF에 대하여 0.2~0.3cm^3/g, Ni-ACF에 대하여 0.3~0.7cm^3/g, 의 범위에 분포함을 알 수 있었다. 이와 관련하여 SEM 분석을 통하여 표면성상에 대하여 연구한 결과, 처리된 금속은 섬유표면 주위를 부분적으로 또는 전 범위에 걸쳐서 피복되어 있음이 관찰되었다. 최종적으로 Shake 플라스크법에 의거하여 대장균(E. coli)에 대한 금속-ACFs의 항균특성에 대한 결과로부터 금속의 양이 증가함에 따라 항균효과가 크게 증가함을 알 수 있었다.

탕포산(湯泡散)이 삼종(三種)의 각막염(角膜炎) 유발균들에 미치는 영향 (The Experimental Studies on Anti-bacterial Effect of Tangpo-san on Three species of causative bacteria of Keratitis)

  • This experimental study was performed to investigate the effect of herbal eye drops, Tangpo-san and Coptidis rhizoma on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa keratitis. The following results were obtained by using Minimum inhibition Concentration(MIC) and inhibition Zone. 1. MIC on Staphylococcus aureus in Tangpo-san was 100%, in Coptidis rhizoma was 100% and in Cravit was 0.1% 2. MIC on Staphylococcus epidermidis in Tangpo-san was 100%, in Coptidis rhizoma was 10% and in Cravit was 0.1%. 3. MIC on Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Tangpo-san, Coptidis rhizoma was not showing and in Cravit was 0.1%. 4. The size of inhibition zone on Staphylococcus aureus for Tangpo-san was 13.3mm in $50{\mu}{\ell}$, for Coptidis rhizoma was 26mm in $50{\mu}{\ell}$ and for Cravit was 31mm in $50{\mu}{\ell}$, showing the highest antibacterial effect. 5. The size of inhibition zone on Staphylococcus epidermidis for Tangpo-san was 16mm in $50{\mu}{\ell}$, for Coptidis rhizoma was 25mm in $40{\mu}{\ell}$ and for Cravit was 34mm in $50{\mu}{\ell}$, showing the highest antibacterial effect. 6. The size of inhibition zone on Pseudomonas aeruginosa for Tangpo-san, Coptidis rhizoma was not and for Cravit was 24.7mm in $50{\mu}l$, showing the antibacterial effect. In addition, the results shows that the herbal eye drops, Tangpo-san and Coptidis rhizoma can be used to cure Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis keratitis and if further study is performed, the use of herbal eye drops will be valuable and beneficial in the clinical medicines.

생약재가 살모넬라균 및 대장균의 항균에 미치는 효과 (Antibacterial Activities of Medicinal Herbs on Salmonella and E. Coli)

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of antibacterial activities on various medicinal herbs. Medicinal herbs used this study was Curcuma aromatica, Scutellaria baicalensis, Angelica dahurica, Platycodon grandiflorum, Houttuynia corolata, and Forsythia saxatilis. To evaluation of the antibacterial effect, we used S. gallinarum(ATCC 9184), S. typhimurium(SAL-13, France), S. enteritidis (ATCC 10376), Escherichia coli(E-62, O78), and S. gallinarum(E. coli). Extracts from each medicinal herbs divided into 100mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, and 12.5 mg/ml. Antibacterial activities achieved by the paper disc test. Antibacterial activities was showed at extracts from Scutellaria baicalensis, Houttuynia corolata, Forsythia saxatilis, but little found at Curcuma aromatica, Angelica dahurica, Platycodon grandiflorum.

재사용이 가능한 나노복합재료 Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag의 제조 및 항균 특성 평가 (Investigation of Synthesis and Antibacterial Properties of a Magnetically Reusable Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag Nanocomposite)

  • In this study, Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully synthesized using silica extracted from corn cob ash. The synthesized Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopyenergy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In addition, the potential application of Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag NPs as an antibacterial material in water disinfection was investigated using Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 as model bacteria. The antibacterial activity of synthesized composite material showed 99.9% antibacterial effect within 20 min for the tested bacteria. From this experiment, the synthesized Fe3O4-ACCS-Ag nanocomposites also hold magnetic properties and could be easily recovered from the water solution for its reuse. The reused nanocomposites presented the decreasing antibacterial efficiencies with the reuse cycle but the composite used three times still killed 90% of bacteria in 20 min.

교정장치의 항균에 따른 레진상의 특성 (Characteristics of Resin on Antimicrobial Properties of Calibration Devices.)

  • Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)는 치과 교정장치 재료로 사용해 왔다. 하지만 낮은 항균력으로 인한 구강감염을 촉진시킬 염려가 있다. 본 연구에서는 이를 극복하기 위하여 최근 발표된 Ag-MSN, graphene-oxide nanosheets(nGO), Cerium nanoparticle(CNP)의 나노입자를 교정레진인 Dentarum 회사의 Orthocryl를 사용하여 레진 파우더 대비 중량비 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0%를 MMA 액에 혼합한 후 제조사의 지시에 따라 PMMA 분말: MMA 액 (1.2 : 1) 비율로 혼합하여 교정용 시편을 제작하였고 교정용 레진 항진균 실험, 통계분석을 하였다. 항균실험을 한 결과 교정용 PMMA레진이 Ag-MSN을 함유할 때 항(진)균적 성질이 증가하였다. nGO를 PM에 넣으면 표면이 거칠어지고 친수성을 높일 수 있었고 항균 접착제 효과가 표면 거칠기의 변화가 아닌 친수성이 증가하였다. CNP 농도가 높을수록 항부착 성질이 최대 60%까지 관찰되었다. 나노입자함유 교정용 레진은 항균효과가 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 이는 의치, 치열 교정 장치 및 임시 수복물에 대한 유망한 항균 치과 재료로서의 잠재적 유용성을 시사한다.

Antibacterial Activity of Selected Fruit Juices against Multidrug-Resistant Bacterial Pathogens Involved in Urinary Tract and Sexually Transmitted Infections among Tribal Women in Madhya Pradesh, India

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fruit juices on Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens involved in Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) among tribal women in the district Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Methods: Fresh juices of lemon (Citrus limon), amla/Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica), pineapple (Ananas comosus), mosambi/sweet lime (Citrus limetta), orange (Citrus sinensis), kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa), and pomegranate (Punica granatum) fruits were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against bacterial pathogens involved in UITs and STIs among tribal women. Physico-chemical analysis of fresh fruits was also carried out by measuring the pH, moisture, protein, fat, crude fibre, carbohydrate, and ascorbic acid content. Results: Lemon and amla juice showed better antibacterial activity against the pathogens as compared to other juices. MIC results fruit juices against UTIs and STIs pathogens vary depending on the specific pathogen and juice chemical constituents. The physico-chemical analysis showed that the moisture content was highest in mosambi (90%), followed by orange (87%). Ascorbic acid content was found highest in amla (540 mg/100 g), followed by kiwi (90.3 mg/100 g). Pomegranate showed highest concentration of carbohydrate (15.28 g/100 g), fat (1.28 g/100 g), and protein (1.65 g/100 g). Lemon juice had lowest pH of 2.20, followed by amla 2.67. Conclusion: The lemon juice showed highest antibacterial activity against MDR bacterial pathogens involved in UTIs and STIs among tribal women in district Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India. The low pH of lemon may be responsible for its high antibacterial activity as compared to other juices.
