Aging Characteristics of Cable Terminations for Distribution Power System (배전용 케이블 종단접속재의 경년특성)

  • Aging characteristics of 13 years service-aged distribution cable terminations which dismounted from 3 regions were investigated by material characterization and electrical test. All dismounted terminations have propagating micro-cracks on the surface of weathershed and chalking fillers from bulk. Elemental analysis of these terminations showed that the carbon was decreased and the oxygen was increased on the surface of weathershed due to a little oxidation reaction. Contact angle of terminations was abnormally increased with time. In the analysis of anti-oxidation ability and chemical structure, there were no differences between new and dismounted terminations. All terminations showed satisfactory results in electrical test. Therefore, itcan be considered that aging is only propagating on the surface of dismounted terminations. Also, it was confirmed that environmental factors such as UV, pollution and salt have an effect on the aging through the observation of polymer composition change.

A Study on Graffiti Expressed in the Modern Fashion (현대패션에 나타난 그라피티에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to consider various characteristics in the graffiti-look in the modem fashion by interpreting meanings and properties of graffiti, transferred from street art to a new main stream in art. The scope of this study is limited to works from the 1990s to the present, and the materials for the literatures and exploratory study are fashion-related portfolios and the domestic and foreign fashion magazines. The first characteristic is satire. The graffiti-look conveys directly or indirectly with phrase or symbol various messages of politics, social ideology, wealth and poverty, environmental pollution, anti-war, etc. Body is even more used for graffitiand designers express freely their identity or ideology through the formative style of graffiti. The second characteristic is pleasure. Fantastic expressions from a fairy-tale or fable in the graffiti-look give humor meaning freedom and sense of liberation in a sense of catharsis to the modem people's emotion. The graffiti-look uses graffiti works to introduce its original message of humanism, happiness, humor, etc. to clothing; as a result, the graffiti-look features pleasure. The third characteristic iscommercial application. Brand logo designed by graffiti style is decorated with clothing, accessory, or ornament. This may not only emphasize brand name through lingual function of graffiti, but also be used for a distinctive marketing strategy against other brands. Logo which is regarded motive or pattern of design leaves a image instead of a meaning and performs a design function stressing formative sense.

The Analysis on the VOCs Contents and Ozone Production Contribution of A Marine Paint in Korea (국내 선박용 도료의 VOCs 함량분포 및 오존생성기여도에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, a few paints in the shipyard were selected and analyzed for the component and ozone production in marine paint using TVOC and GC/FID, ozone generation index (MIR, POCP) to establish measures of $VOC_s$ effectively. The concentrations of TVOC ranged between approximately 300~400 g/L and 400~500 g/L, respectively and these showed 37% of whole. Our results indicated that the main constituents of marine paints were m,p,oxylene (49%), ethyl benzene (10%), toluene (8%) and 2-propanol (5%). It was also found that xylene concentration have relatively higher impact on ozone generation. The types of paints were also investigated for their potentials. The biggest contributor was the 1 Pack Finish paint. The rest is, in their contributing order, 1 Pack Finish paint, 2 pack Finish paint, Anti-fouling paint, 2 Pack A/C paint, Ballast paint and 1 Pack A/C paint.

A Study on the Development of Wafer Notch Aligner (노치형 웨이퍼 정렬기 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to develop a system that enables 20 to 25 wafers to be automatically aligned at the position of the corresponding serial number and facilitates the checkout of wafer processing by sensing them before and after semiconductor processing. It also suggests compensation algorithm and stepper motor control algorithm that carefully align notches. This study minimizes the rate of occurrence by adopting materials of which the surface has proper coefficient of friction when wafers are rotating and that do not rarely produce particles. This study completed the development of a slip resistance apparatus and carried out performance tests through mathematical verification. This system is expected to improve semiconductor yield due to anti-pollution technology in semiconductor processing and can be selectively applied to a large size wafer over 450mm in the future.

Biochemical Changes in the Hemolymph and Hepatopancreas of Abalone Haliotis discus hannai Exposed to Copper (구리(Cu) 노출에 따른 전복(Haliotis discus hannai)의 hemolymph 및 hepatopancreas 내의 생화학적 변화)

  • This study the effects of Cu exposure on biochemical factors in the hemolymph and hepatopancreas of the abalone $Haliotis$ $discus$ $hannai$. Abalone were exposed to 0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 ${\mu}g/L$ Cu for 4 weeks. The calcium concentrations in hemolymph were decreased significantly on exposure to 20 and 40 ${\mu}g/L$ Cu after 2 weeks. The aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities in abalone hemolymph were markedly elevated after exposure to 40 ${\mu}g/L$ Cu for 4 weeks. The hepatopancreas superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities were also significantly increased by exposure to 20 ${\mu}g/L$ Cu for 4 weeks. These biochemical factors may represent a convenient method of monitoring heavy metal pollution in coastal areas. From these results, we conclude that a high copper concentration (40 ${\mu}g/L$) in water may curtail hemolymph homeostasis and anti-oxidative reactions in abalone.

Many living things today, however, have endangered by environmental pollution and ecological destruction. The higher fungi also are not exception. Mushroom has been used for food sources, pharmacy and forests resources from ancient times. Among biodiversity, database of mushroom is very necessary for university, institute and industry. This DB contains four items of native mushroom(higher fungi) from Korea. first item contain species, genus, family, order class, ad division according to the classification. Second item contain pharmaceutical purpose, food source, culture, toxic, anti-cancer of the application. Third item contain symbiosis, rotten trees of the ecological resources. Fourth item contain geographical distribution and illustrated literature. Information system is also available using KRISTAL II for searches on the WEB in URL http://ruby. kisti. re. kr/∼mushroom.

A Study on the Preparation of Solvent Type Low Foaming Scouring Agents (용제형 저기포성 정련제의 제조에 관한 연구)

  • Low foaming scouring agents(SLFS) were prepared by blending of 2-ethylhexylaminoethyl sulfate, Na-dioctyl sulfosuccinate, Newpol PP-2000, MJU-100, ethylene glycol and organic solvent. As the results of several tests, SLFS-2 showed good scouring effect, penetrating ability, emulsifiability and anti-alkaline property, and showed not much water pollution. The foaming power of SLFS-2 measured by Ross & Mites method was 8mm foam height immediately after foaming. And the foaming power of SLFS-2 measured by Ross & Clark method were less than 300mm foam height at $30^{\circ}C$, and 15mm at $80^{\circ}C$. As a result, SLFS-2 was proved as a good low foaming scouring agent.

Molecular Strategy for Development of Value-Added Sesame Variety

  • There are two groups of significant functional constituents in sesame seeds on the whole; one is the vegetable oils and another is the anti-oxidative compounds. However, although high amounts of major fatty acids are synthesized in sesame seeds, their composition is unfavorable because the contents of alpha- and gamma-linolenic acid, the essential fatty acids, are very low or do not produced in sesame seeds. So, to increase these fatty acids in sesame seeds, one strategy is to overexpress their genes, ${\omega}$-3 fatty acid desaturase for alpha-linolenic acid and delta-6 fatty acid desaturase for gamma-linolenid acid, in them. Another molecular target is to enhance alpha-tocopherol, vitamin E, because its content is very low in sesame seeds. The enzyme, gamma-tocopherol methyltransferase, catalyzes the conversion of gamma-tocophero to alpha-tocopherol. Overexpression of this enzyme in sesame seeds could be also a good molecular breeding target. Reduction of phytic acid is also another molecular target in sesame seeds because phosphorus pollution may be caused by its high content in sesame seeds. Accordingly, to do so, one of target enzymes could be myo-inositol 1-phosphate synthase which is a key regulatory enzyme in the pathway of phytic aicd biosyntheses. In this lecture, a molecular strategy for development of value-added sesame crop is described in association with some results of our experiments involved in the molecular characterizations of the genes mentioned above.
