A Study on the High Temperature Tensile Properties of Hyderiedrided Zircaloy-4 (수소화시킨 지르칼로이-4의 고온인장성질에 관한 연구)

  • Effects of temperature on the tensile properties of annealed and hydirded Zircaloy-4 plate in which hydrides are precitated paralled to the rolling direction were investigated. The main results obtained are as follows : 1) In annealed Zircaloy-4, yield point phenomenon was found in the temperature range of $200-550^{\circ}C$, while in hydrided alloy the phenomenon was found in the range of $200-400^{\circ}C$. 2) The dynamic strain aging behavior was occurd in the temperature interval of 400-$550^{\circ}C$in both annealed and hydrided Zircaloy-4. 3) The nearly values of yield strength, tensile stength and elongation are obtained in both annealed and hydried Zircaloy-4. From this result, we are led to conclude that the hydrides which are preiptated parallel to the circumferenial direction of nucler fuel are not so harmful for tensile properties of the clad.

  • Rotary bending fatigue tests were carried out to investigate the artificial defect sensitivity of fatigue limit in annealed and austempered ductile irons. Artificial defect(hole, diameter${\leq}0.4mm$) machined on specimen surface did not bring about an obvious reduction of fatigue limit in austempered ductile iron as compared with annealed. As a result of investigation on $\sqrt{area}$ c which is the critical artificial defect size. $\sqrt{area}$ c of austempered ductile iron is larger than that of annealed. This means that the crack initiation at artificial defect in austempered ductile iron is more difficult in comparison with annealed. In case that the $\sqrt{area}$ c of artificial defect and graphite nodule are same, the rate of crack initiation for graphite nodule is higher than that of artificial defect.

Spin Dependent Transport Phenomena for Annealed Co46Al19O35 Granular Thin Films

  • I have overviewed the change in GMR on annealing, in conjunction with the change in microstructure. The Co46Al19O35 granular thin films were annealed at 30$0^{\circ}C$ for various annealing time to change the microstructure. The magnitude of GMR decreases considerably with increasing annealing time, although the size of Co granules estimated from TEM observation show a small change. Parameter fits of magnetization curves and magnetoresistance curves to the Langevin function suggest that large clusters consisting of several small Co granules, which are coupled ferromagnetically, are related with the decrease of GMR on annealing. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity ($\rho$) shows the relationship of log $\rho$ versus $T^{-1/2}$ for the sample annealed for 10 min., 1 hr. and 6 hrs. However, the sample annealed for 38 hrs. shows the relationship of log $\rho$ versus$ T^{-1/4},$ which represents a significant change in the transport mechanism.

  • P+ ion implanted poly-Si flim with doses of 10E13-10E16 ions/$cm^2$ were annealed by CO2 laser and their sheet resistances were measured and compared with thoses of furnace annealed samples. In case of lightly doped samples, the measured sheet resistance of laser annealed samples were lower several orders of magnitude than those of furnace annealed samples. The origin of this reduction of sheet resistances is supposed to be the increase of the grain size to the extent of certain critical value.

  • We have studied dielectric properties of sol-gel derived tantalum oxide thin films as the insulators. As the sample is annealed from 300.deg. C to 700.deg. C, it is found amorphous below 600.deg. C and crystalline over it. Dielectric constant is maximum(18.6) when Ta$_{2}$O$_{5}$ film was annealed at 400.deg. C. It is found that dielectric strength in Ta$_{2}$O$_{5}$ film annealed at 400.deg. C (1.5MV/cm) increases and then decreases over annealed at 500.deg. C. This phenomenon was attributed to pinhole effect and crystallization. The de conduction properties can be interpreted by Poole-Frenkel effect.ect.

Factors Affecting Stress Corrosion Cracking Susceptibility of Alloy 600 MA Steam Generator Tubes

  • In the past, Alloy 600 nickel-based alloys have been widely used in steam generators. However, most of them have been replaced by thermally treated alloy 690 tubes in recent years because mill annealed alloy 600 materials are known to be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. Unlike this general perception, some steam generators using mill annealed alloy 600 tubes show excellent performance even though they are designed, manufactured, and operated in the same way. Therefore, various analyses were carried out to determine causes for the degradation of steam generators. Based on the general stress corrosion cracking mechanism, tube material susceptibility, residual stress, and sludge deposits of steam generators were compared to identify factors affecting stress corrosion cracking. It was found that mill annealed alloy 600 steam generator tubes showed higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking when the amount of sludge deposits on tube surface was smaller and residual stress generated during the fabrication was lower.

  • The porous Si (PS) was annealed at various temperature in air, argon, and nitrogen atmosphere. Structural and optical properties of the annealed PS were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL). It is found that the shape of pore is changed from circle to channel as increasing annealing temperature which was annealed in air and argon atmosphere. In case of PS annealed in nitrogen atmosphere, the shape of pore is changed from channel to circle with increase annealing temperature from 600 to $800^{\circ}C$. The PL peak position is blue-shifted with increasing annealing temperature. As annealing temperature increases, the PL intensity of the PS annealed in argon is decreased but that of the PS annealed in nitrogen is increased. It might be due to the formation of Si-N bonds and it passivates the non-radiative centers which is Si dangling bonds on the surface of the PS.

  • We investigated variation of the photoreflectance(PR) signals for n-GaAs furnace and laser annealed. The samples were annealed by using ArF excimer laser(5 min, $30{\sim}50\;W$) and furnace(5 min $400{\sim}700^{\circ}C$). The PR signals(top point) measured from the ArF excimer laser annealed sample showed 1.42 eV and furnace annealed sample showed 1.43 eV. This result is ArF excimer laser annealed sample was uniform annealed surface and inter state.

Post Annealing Effects on Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized by Novel Hydrothermal Process

  • We have investigated the effects of post annealing on iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by the novel hydrothermal synthesis method with the $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$. To investigate the post annealing effect, the as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles were annealed at different temperatures in a vacuum chamber. The morphological, structural and magnetic properties of the iron oxide nanoparticles were investigated with high resolution X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer analysis. According to the XRD and HRTEM analysis results, as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles were only magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) phase with face-centered cubic structure but post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ were mainly magnetite phase with trivial maghemite ($\gamma-Fe_2O_3$) phase which was induced in the post annealing treatment. The crystallinity of the iron oxide nanoparticles is enhanced by the post annealing treatment. The particle size of the as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles was about 5 nm and the particle shape was almost spherical. But the particle size of the post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ was around 25 nm and the particle shape was spherical and irregular. The as-synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles showed superparamagnetic behavior, but post annealed iron oxide nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ did not show superparamagnetic behavior due to the increase of particle size by post annealing treatment. The saturation of magnetization of the as-synthesized nanoparticles, post annealed nanoparticles at $500^{\circ}C$, and post annealed nanoparticles at $700^{\circ}C$ was found to be 3.7 emu/g, 6.1 emu/g, and 7.5 emu/g, respectively. The much smaller saturation magnetization value than one of bulk magnetite can be attributed to spin disorder and/or spin canting, spin pinning at the nanoparticle surface.

Effect of Microstructural Factors on Fatigue and Fatigue Crack Propagation Behaviors of Mill-Annealed Ti-6Al-4V Alloy (미세조직적 인자가 밀소둔된 Ti-6Al-4V 합금의 피로 및 피로균열전파 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • To understand the effect of microstructural factors (i.e., the size of ${\alpha}$ phase, equiaxed vs bimodal structure) on high cycle fatigue (HCF) and fatigue crack propagation (FCP) behaviors of mill-annealed Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) alloy, three specimens of EQ (equiaxed)-8 (8 indicates the size of ${\alpha}$ grain), BM (bimodal)-8, and BM-16 were studied. The uniaxial HCF and FCP tests were conducted at an R ratio of 0.1 under sinusoidal fatigue loading. The microstructural influence (i.e., EQ vs BM) was not significant on the tensile properties of mill-annealed Ti64 alloy, and showed an increase in tensile strength and elongation with decreasing gauge thickness from 50 mm to 1.3 mm. The microstructure, on the other hand, affected the resistance to HCF substantially. It was found that the EQ structure in mill-annealed Ti64 has better resistance to HCF than the BM structure, as a result of different crack initiation mechanism. Unlike HCF behavior, the effect of microstructural features on the FCP behavior of mill-annealed Ti64 was not significant. Among the three specimens, BM-16 specimen showed the highest near-threshold ΔK value, probably because it had the greatest slip reversibility with large ${\alpha}$ grains. The effect of microstructural factors on the HCF and FCP behaviors of mill-annealed Ti64 alloy are discussed based on fractographic and micrographic observations.
