  • This article aims at examining Japanese recognition of Korea through analyzing the Japanese language textbooks of Japan, in order to find how Japanese people perceived Korea in the first half of the 20th century. I explored descriptions related to Korea in the Japanese language textbooks published in the 1st curriculum (1904) to the 5th curriculum (1945). In this period, the Japanese language textbooks were serving in allowing Korea to be associated Queen Jin Goo and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Korean custom and Korean landscape of Seoul and rural area. They designated Korea was a small and weak country through the stories of Queen Jin Goo and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Although they introduced Korean floor heating system, Korean costume, and Korean ritual, they reinforced Korea was a backward country through representing undeveloped transportation facilities and unsanitary living conditions. They characterized the coloniality of Korea through portraying modern buildings created by Japan on Seoul streets. Furthermore, they induced assimilation of Japan and Korea through the story of Korean rural areas.

  • This study is aimed at analyzing the structural characteristics of vegetation in the Sangwonsa(Temple) valley, Yongmunsan(Mt.), and to collect basic data for research of large mountains which are located in the temperate, central region. The research on the entire vegetation struc trees are distributed over a wide area, accounting for 75.0% of theture of Sangwonsa(Temple) valley observed that oak total vegetation in the area. We examined 17 plots(unit area: $400m^2$) in the deciduous forest, dividing the trees into 5 community types based on the average important value. The 5 community types are as follows: A mixed dominant group of Carpinus laxiflora and Quercus serrata, a mixed dominant group of Quercus serrata and Quercus variabilis, a mixed dominant group of Quercus mongolica and Quercus serrata, a dominant group of Quercus serrata, a dominant group of Acer pictum supsp. mono. It is expected that the oak trees competing with Carpinus laxiflora and Acer pictum supsp. mono would flourish in a deciduous forest. The Shannon's species diversity index(H') was 0.3708~1.3083.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for future management of roadside trees by analyzing problems associated with plantation and management of roadside trees through categorization of functions and organizational structure, plantation and management, and management regulations and generating improvement opportunities based on the result of a survey on the awareness of government officials who are directly in charge of managing roadside trees in 31 cities & counties within Kyonggi province. The summary of key results of this study is as follows. First, "roadside tree-related function" is still not considered to be independent. About a half of government officials in charge did not majored in this field and they spent only about "2.09hours", in average, in the roadside tree-related function out of 8 working hours per day. Second, regarding problems and improvement opportunities in roadside tree-related function, lack of time was considered to be the biggest problem in overall management of roadside trees. As for improvement opportunities, "increase of dedicated manpower" and "system development" to facilitate efficient processing were suggested. Third, an annual budget for roadside tree-related affairs was merely 92 million won per city/county. A registry for management of roadside trees was kept manually. As for the roles of roadside trees, improvement of landscape and securing of green area itself were valued highly. Fourth, Ginkgo biloba, Zelkova serrata, and Prunus yedoensis were suggested to be the most appropriate species for roadside tree and Platanus occidentalis, Populus albaglandulosa, Populus euramericana, and Robinia pseudo-acacia were mentioned to be the least appropriate species.

  • Climate change are known to have had enormous impacts on plant phenology and thus to have damage on other species which are interacted within ecosystem. In Korea, however, it is difficult to analyze the relationship between climate and phenology due to the limitation of measurement data of plant phenological records. In this study, to be effective analysis of SOG(start of growing season), we used phenological transition dates by using satellite data. Then, we identified the most influential variable in variation of SOG throughout the relationship between SOG and temperature factors. As a result, there is a strong correlation between the SOG and April temperature, TSOGmin($3^{\circ}C$, 12days). This study is expected to be used for predicting plant phenological change using climate change scenario data.

  • Local governments are establishing their own greenhouse gas reduction goal and are playing a important role to respond to climatic changes. However, there are difficulties in quantitative analyses such as estimation of future greenhouse gas emission and computation of reduction potential, which are procedures required to establish mid to long term strategies to realize of low carbon society by each local governments. Also, reduction measures must reflect characteristics of each local government, since the reduction power of each local government can differ according to characteristics of each. In order to establish strategies that reflect characteristics of local governments, types of greenhouse gas emission from cities were classified largely into residential city, commercial city, residential commercial city, agriculture and fishery city, convergence city, and industrial city. As a result of analyzing basic unit of greenhouse gas emission by local government during 2007 in terms of per population, household and GRDP based on the type classification, significant results were deduced for each type. To manage the amount of the national greenhouse gas, reduction measures should be focused on the local governments that emits more than the average of each type's GHG emission.

  • This study started with drawing problems of early implementation and suggesting improvement plans in order to lead a rural convergence industrialization district system to early settlement and management for its policy goals. The study aimed at 13 districts that were designated from 2014 to 2016 for analyzing an actual condition of promoting early implementation, and went ahead with it combining literature research, interview survey and specialist opinion investigation. The study examined and organized an outline, policy goal, and actual condition of rural convergence industrialization district. Furthermore, it analyzed an actual condition of promoting at each stage such as designating processes of rural convergence industrialization districts, operating body and system, regulation improvement, district supporting projects and relating projects, drew problems and finally suggested improvement plans. This study could be meaningful because it is the first study to grasp an actual condition of promoting early implementation and to remedy problems in order to manage rural convergence industrialization district system which was newly promoted since 2014 for its policy goal. In addition, it suggests that the further study of the result after managing district system for a certain period of time should be needed.

  • A palustrine wetland is a type of a wetland that prevails in Korea as well as an ecosystem that provides various ecological functions and has affluent biodiversity. This study was conducted to understand the characteristics of vegetation in a palustrine wetland by analyzing a life form and naturalized plants, in order to present the maintenance and utilization plan of a small wetland. A total of 249 taxa including 76 families, 188 generics, 209 species, 38 varieties and 2 forma were found at six investigated wetlands. As a result of the appearance ratio analysis, Therophytes (37.8%) with 94 taxa and Hemicryptophytes (31.3%) with 78 taxa were in order of life form, and Gramineae (14.1 %) with 35 taxa and Compositae (11.2 %) with 28 taxa were in order of family level. These were deemed representative vegetation in a palustrine wetland. Equosetum arvense, Phragmites communis, Commelina communis, Persicaria thunbergii, Arenaria serpyllifolia, Stellaria media, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis and Artemisia princeps var, orientalis were found continuously for a period of investigation in all sites. Equosetum arvense, Phragmites communis and Persicaria thunbergii were species with high appearance frequency. Especially, Persicaria thunbergii was construed high in a cover ratio in May as it develop first among Hydrophytes and form a canopy sooner than anything else. We found that a degree of naturalization and an urbanization index appear comparatively high in Yeongok-ri, Cheonan, Gangjang-ri, Asan and Yodang-ri, Hwasung, which is construed due to artificial interference, such as fanning, fishing, swimming and green-tour program. These results would be used to utilize in restoring a deserted and damaged wetland and to provide fundamental data in creating a wetland as follows.
