Ball bearings are a major component of mechanical parts for transmitting rotation. Compared to tapered roller bearings, ball bearings offer less rolling resistance, which leads to reduced heat generation during operation. Because of these characteristics, ball bearings are widely used in electric vehicles and machine tools. The design of ball bearing cages has recently emerged as a major issue in ball bearing design. Cage design requires pre-verification of performance using theoretical or experimental formula or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). However, CFD analysis is time-consuming, making it difficult to apply in case studies for design decisions and is mainly used in performance prediction following design confirmation. To use CFD in the early stages of design, main-taining analytical accuracy while reducing the time required for analysis are necessary. Accordingly, this study proposes a laminar steady-state segment CFD technique to solve the problem of long CFD analytical times and to enable the use of CFD analysis in the early stages of design. To verify the reliability of the CFD analysis, a bearing drag torque test is performed, and the results are compared with the analytical results. The proposed laminar steady-state segment CFD technique is expected to be useful for case studies in bearing design, including cage design.
The addition of oxygenates to diesel fuel can significantly reduce particulate emissions. Dibutyl maleate (DBM) and tripropylene glycol methyl ether (TGME) have been identified as possible additives based on their physicochemical characteristics and performance in engine test. However, their potential environmental impacts are unknown. therefore, practical considerations in the selection of an oxygenate additives should include cost, availability, compatibility with engines and fuel, and, particularly, its overall environmental impact. This study was investigated to determine optimal condition for the analysis of potential diesel oxygenates using SPME technique with GC-FID. Four fibers were compared and CAR/PDMS fiber was found to be the most sensitive when used direct-sampling. An absorption time of 30min and a desorption time of 5min provided to be the most sensitivity. The effects of experimental parameters such as the addition of salts, agitation, absorption time, compositon on the analysis were investigated. Analytical parameter such as linearity was also evaluated.
In this work, an improved semi-analytical technique is adopted to track the dynamic response of thin rectangular plates excited by sequential traveling masses. This technique exploits a so-called indirect definition of inertial interaction between the moving masses and the plate and leads to a reduction, in the equations of motion, of the number of time-varying coefficients linked to the changing position of the masses. By employing this optimized method, the resonance of the plate can be obtained according to a parametric study of relevant maximum dynamic amplification factor. For the case of evenly spaced, equal masses travelling along a straight line, the resonance velocity of the masses themselves is also approximately predicted via a fast methodology based on the fundamental frequency of the system only.
This study analyzes a ladder multilevel converter (double ladder topology) with the use of a new averaging modeling technique. This technique introduces an analytical method to compute for the switching losses and is used to conduct an in-depth analysis of the influence of the switching frequency and parasitic resistance of components on converter efficiency. The obtained results enable the selection of switches and switching frequency to minimize losses. Moreover, simulation results and experimental measurements validate the analytical calculations.

A new efficient analytical eye-diagram determination technique for coupled interconnect lines is presented. Two coupled lines are decoupled into isolated eigen modes; bit blocks for coupled lines, which are defined as a block of consecutive bits, are then represented with decoupled modes. The crosstalk effects within the bit blocks are taken into account. Thereby, the crucial input bit patterns for the worst case eye-diagram determination are modeled mathematically, including inter-symbol interference (ISI). The proposed technique shows excellent agreement with the SPICE-based simulation. Furthermore, it is very computation-time-efficient in the order of magnitude, compared with the SPICE simulation, which requires numerous pseudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) input signals.
The major objective of this study is to establish analytical technique in order to analyze the behaviour of semi-solid material considering induction heating of the billet. Induction heating process is analyzed by using commerical finite element software. ANSYS. The finite element program, SFAC2D, for the simulation of deformation in semi-solid state is developed in the present study. The semi-solid behaviour is described by a viscoplastic model for the solid phase, and by the Darcy's law for the liquid flow. Simple compression and closed-die compression process considering induction heating are analyzed, and also it is found that the distribution of initial solid fraction of the billet has an important effect on deformation behaviour of semi-solid material. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed analytical technique the simulation result is compared with experimental result.
In this paper, we implement a relatively new analytical technique by combining the traditional variational iteration method and the decomposition method which is called as the variational decomposition method (VDM) for solving the sixth-order boundary value problems. The proposed technique is in fact the modification of variatioanal iteration method by coupling it with the so-called Adomian's polynomials. The analytical results of the equations have been obtained in terms of convergent series with easily computable components. Comparisons are made to verify the reliability and accuracy of the proposed algorithm. Several examples are given to check the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. We have also considered an example where the VDM is not reliable.
The mechanism synthesis methods, graphical, analytical and computer-aided technique have been proposed for selecting and scaling mechanical system. According to developing computation tools, mechanism could be synthesized much faster and more correct than previous analytical ways by improved techniques. In this paper, the improved synthesis method is proposed to solve body guidance synthesis problem. To perform the mechanism synthesis for body guidance, a planar linkage is modeled as a set of free three bushings located in design space. The values of bushing stiffness and x, y position of bushings yielding a desired functional requirement related to input motion are found by using an optimization technique.
Ion transport of a polypyrrole/chloride (PPy/Cl) film and a polypyrrole/poly(styenesulfonate) (PPy/PSS) film as a function of applied dc potential was investigated by employing electrogravimetric impedance technique and electrochemical impedance technique. The cation and anion contribution to the whole charge capacitance and the diffusion coefficients of cation and anion in a PPy/PSS film were calculated by fitting the electrogravimetric impedance data with proposed model circuit. The diffusion coefficients of $Na^+$ in a 1 M $NaClO_4$ solution are over 1 order of magnitude larger than those of $ClO{_4}^-$, and $ClO{_4}^-$ contribution to charge compensation decreases as dc potential lowers. The charge compensation of a PPy/Cl film ir a 1 M CsCl solution is carried out largely by $Cl^-$ at 0.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl and by $Cs^+$ as well as $Cl^-$ at -0.4 V.
