Modern ship hulls of large oil carriers and container carrers have become more flexible with scantling optimization and increase in ship length. On the other hand. as the demand for power has increased with the ship size. shaft diameters have become larger and stiffer. Consequently. the alignment of the propulsion system has become more sensitive to hull girder deflections. resulting in difficulties in analyzing the alignment and conducting the alignment procedure. Accordingly. the frequency of shaft alignment related bearing damages has increased significantly in recent years. The alignment related damages are mostly attributed to inadequate analyses. changes in the design of the vessel. shipyards' practices in conducting the alignment. and a lack of well defined analytical criteria. The hull deflections should be considered at the design stage to minimize the bearing damage caused by hull deflection. Hull deflections can be estimated by analytical approach and reverse calculation using the measured data. The hull girder deflection analysis using the reverse calculation will be introduced in this paper.

In this paper, we study the effect of gradient vector calculation method(analytical method, central finite difference method) on adaptive beamforming to control weight distribution during iterated calculation when LMS algorithm (repeating method) is used to realize desired beam pattern. To this end, a quasi-ideal beam having an arbitrarily set beam width, a rotating beam, and a multi-beam were reviewed as examples. Numerical experiments applied the step parameters of the appropriate values to the adaptive beamforming system through trial and error equally to the two calculations, and compared the convergence characteristics of objective functions that evaluate adaptability and error using two methods for calculating gradient vectors.
To model the aeroelasticity in vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) of slender tubular towers, this paper presents an approach where the aerodynamic damping distribution along the height of the structure is calculated not only as a function of the normalized lateral oscillation but also considering the local incoming wind velocity ratio to the critical velocity (velocity ratio). The three-dimensionality of aerodynamic damping depending on the tower's displacement and the velocity ratio has been observed in recent studies. A contour map model of aerodynamic damping is generated based on the forced vibration tests. A sectional calculation procedure based on the spectral method is developed by defining the aerodynamic damping locally at each increment of height. The proposed contour map model of aerodynamic damping and the sectional calculation procedure are validated with full-scale measurement data sets of a rotorless wind turbine tower, where good agreement between the prediction and measured values is obtained. The prediction of cross-wind response of the wind turbine tower is performed over a range of wind speeds which allows the estimation of resulting fatigue damage. The proposed model gives more realistic prediction in comparison to the approach included in current standards.
Anumerical method for the calculation of electric fields with two-dielectric media is described. The basis of the method is the use of fictitious charges as a particular solution of Laplace's (and Poisson's) equations. Simple examples were chosen for the explanation of the method and the close agreement between calculated and analytical values was obtained. It has been shown that the charge simulation method is better in calculation time and accuracy.
This work presents a theoretical study on the analytical calculation of the lineshape of polarization spectroscopy (PS) for the transition line $5s^2\;^1S_0{\rightarrow}5s5p\;^1P_1$ of $^{88}Sr$. From the obtained analytical form of the PS spectrum, we were able to identify how the saturation affected the lineshape of the PS spectrum. The results obtained will be useful for polarization spectroscopy experiments using the alkaline-earth atoms such as Sr or Yb.
This paper presents the torque calculation and parametric analysis of synchronous permanent magnet couplings (SPMCs). Based on a magnetic vector potential, we obtained the analytical magnetic field solutions produced by permanent magnets (PMs). Then, the analytical solutions for a magnetic torque were obtained. All analytical results were extensively validated with the non-linear a two-dimensional (2D) finite element analysis (FEA). In particular, test results such as torque measurements are presented that confirm the analysis. Finally, using the derived analytical magnetic torque solutions, we carried out a parametric analysis to determine the influence of the design parameters on the SPMC's behavior.
Magnetic couplings are widely used in various industrial applications because they can transmit magnetic force without any mechanical contact. In addition, linear couplings have many advantages. For example, they do not need to convert rotary motion to linear motion. This paper shows an analytical analysis of tubular type linear magnetic couplings (TLMCs) with a Halbach array magnetized permanent magnet (PM). An analytical method for magnetic fields owing to PMs is performed by using magnetic vector potential as well as Poisson and Laplace equations. Then, the magnetic force is calculated by using the Maxwell stress tensor. The analytical analysis results were compared with finite element method (FEM) results. In addition, we predicted the magnetic force characteristic according to design parameters such as the iron core thickness, inner PM thickness to -outer PM thickness ratio, PM segment ratio of the axial magnetized PM segment and radial magnetized PM segment, and various pole numbers.
This paper deals with analytical solution concerning the image method using the magnetic charge instead of 3D FEA(finite element analysis) in the slotless single air-gap motor. The theory of analytical method and the design procedures are introduced. The reliability and validity of proposed analytical solution are verified through the comparison with the results of commercial 3D FE software. In addition, calculation time between proposed analytical solution and 3D FEA is compared. Finally, characteristics, such as Back-EMF and phase resistance, between calculated and experimental results are compared. From the verification with 3D FEA and experimental results, it is proved that presented analytical method provided very effective and precise results.

In the management of groundwater in coastal areas, saltwater intrusion associated with extensive groundwater pumping, is an important problem. The groundwater optimization model is an advanced method to study the aquifer and decide the optimal pumping rates or optimal well locations. Cheng and Park gave the analytical solutions to the optimization problems basing on Strack's analytical solution. However, the analytical solutions have some limitations of the property of aquifer, boundary conditions, and so on. A simulation-optimization numerical method presented in this study can deal with non-homogenous aquifers and various complex boundary conditions. This simulation-optimization model includes the sharp interface solution which solves the same governing equation with Strack's analytical solution, therefore, the freshwater head and saltwater thickness should be in the same conditions, that can lead to the comparable results in optimal pumping rates and optimal well locations for both of the solutions. It is noticed that the analytical solutions can only be applied on the infinite domain aquifer, while it is impossible to get a numerical model with infinite domain. To compare the numerical model with the analytical solutions, calculation of the equivalent boundary flux was planted into the numerical model so that the numerical model can have the same conditions in steady state with analytical solutions.
As the number of CDMA subscribers increases, CDMA systems utilize more than one CDMA carrier In order to accommodate Increasing capacity requirement. In this paper, we present a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity of CDMA systems with multiple CDMA carriers. in the case of the algorithm proposed in 〔5〕, the calculation complexity for evaluating the call blocking probability Is increased proportionally to the sixth power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA system supports voice and data services. Consequently, It is Impractical to calculate Erlang capacity with the algorithm of 〔5〕especially when the number of used CDMA carriers is larger than 3. To resolve this problem, we propose a new analytical method for evaluating the Erlang capacity. The calculation complexity of the proposed method for evaluating call blocking probability is increased just proportionally to the second power of the number of used CDMA carriers when the CDMA systems support voice and data services.
