적외선 분광분석과 다변량 통계에 기반한 바이오디젤 품질분석 (Analysis of biodiesel quality based on infrared spectroscopy and multivariate statistics)

  • ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) D6751-10은 바이오디젤의 품질 규격 뿐 아니라 분석방법 또한 제시하고 있다. 하지만 ASTM 표준에 따른 바이오디젤 및 포함된 여러 불순물의 품질 분석은 경제적, 시간적으로 부담이 크다. 본 연구는 적외선 분광분석법(infrared spectroscopy)과 다변량 통계분석법 중 하나인 PLS (partial least square method)를 이용하여 1회 측정만으로 바이오 디젤 및 불순물들의 농도를 분석하는 시스템을 개발하고자 하였다. 특히, 적외선을 이용한 분석에서 생기는 각 물질의 스펙트럼에 대한 산란 보정, 노이즈 감소 등을 위해 SNV, MSC, OSC, Savitzky-Golay 등의 4가지 전처리 방법의 성능을 비교하였다. 품질 분석에 필요한 바이오 디젤 검량 모델을 PLS로 모델링 결과, Savitzky-Golay 전처리를 하였을 때 정확도가 가장 우수함을 알았다.

  • The green building is one of biggest factors to go the goal of energy saving and environmental conservation, reduction of energy consumption, friendly energy technology, recycling of resource, and environmental pollution reduction technology. The purpose of these green buildings realized by the energy-saving technology such as the exterior materials or curtain wall system. The curtain wall system is a element that come to insulated portions of building envelope that results in heat loss. The purpose of this paper is to carried out mock-up tests for exterior wall used in autoclaved lightweight concrete panels in green building practices. Mock-up test execute a mixed process between standard test procedure and complex test procedure based on AAMA 501(American Society for Testing and Materials) and ASTM 283, ASTM 330(American Society for Testing and Materials). In results, tests meet the requirements that grant values in steps of procedures provided on ASTM and AAMA. ALC panel is suitable for a exterior wall product to be gratified thermal cycling performance and structural capacity, deflection(H/200) and lateral displacement(H/50), for curtain walls.

Standardization of Fracture Toughness Testing of Ceramics in the United States

  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard test method PS 070-97 has been created for measuring fracture toughness of advanced ceramics. PS 070-97 includes three test methods which use beams in bending: chevron notch (CNB), single-edged precracked beam (SEPB), and surface crack in flexure (SCF). Supporting data has been collected through several Versailles Advanced Materials and Standards round robins. This paper discusses the evolution of the standard including the rationale for the choice of the three methods and the specifications in the standard. Progress on Standard Reference material 2100 which will have certified values of fracture toughness is presented.

Experimental evaluation on comparative mechanical properties of Jute - Flax fibre Reinforced composite structures

  • In the modern era, the world is facing unprecedented challenges in form of environmental pollution and international agencies are forcing scientists and materialists to look for green materials and structures to counter this problem. Composites based on renewable sources like plant based fibres, vegetable fibres are finding increasing use in interior components of automobile vehicles, aircraft, and building construction. In the present study, jute and flax fibre based composites were developed and tested for assessing their suitability for possible applications in interior cabin and parts of automobile and aerospace vehicles. Matrix system involves epoxy as resin and fibre weight fractions used were 45% and 55% respectively. Composites samples were prepared as per American society for testing and materials (ASTM) standard and were tested for individual fiber tensile strength, composite tensile strength, and flexural strength to analyse its behavior under various loading conditions. The results revealed that the Jute fibre composites possess enhanced mechanical properties over Flax fibre composites.

초음파법에 의한 폭발접합 이종금속 접합품질 판정레벨 설정에 관한 연구 (Ultrasonic Test Criterion for the Explosively Welded Fe-Naval Brass Bonding Quality)

  • An ultrasonic test method, as a nondestructive test is applied to ensure the clad interface quality assessment. According to the reference codes and standards, not only korea Industrial Standard(KS) but also American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard, ultrasonic examination procedures use the pulse-echo, A-scan, back reflection signal drop method and/or side drilled reference hole used to establish the acceptance criteria of clad material test. But the variety of bonding materials and sizes makes it difficult to produce the reference blocks, or thus the criteria. In order to overcome these practical difficulties, new ultrasonic testing criterion is suggested. In this new method, the theoretical interface reflection signal amplitude level is calculated and suggested as an acceptance criteria with the back reflection signal set to 100% FSH(Full Screen Height) which is based on acoustic impedance mismatch at the clad interface for the explosive clad ultrasonic inspection. Applicability of suggested criterion, for the explosive clad Fe-Naval Brass with different bonding quality is confirmed to the pre-existed KS and ASTM specifications and verified by using SEM (Seanning Electron Microscope) micrograph. The results obtained by the suggested method is more conservative than the results according to the KS B 0234 and ASTM A 578 specifications The suggested method could be applicable to any other combination of explosive clad ultrasonic inspection.

  • Until now, the tensile properties of materials can be obtained just in accordance with conventional tensile testing methods which are described in several standards such as ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard and BS (British Standard). For some cases including on-service facility materials, however, the standard testing methods cannot be applicable due to the destructive testing procedure and specimen size requirement. Therefore, simple, non-destructive and advanced indentation technique was proposed. This test measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation and fracture. In this paper, the research trend of non-destructive evaluation of tensile properties using AIS (advanced indentation system) and its application fields are reviewed and discussed.

내화피복을 적용한 강합성보의 구조화재해석 (Structural Fire Analysis of a Composite Beam Protected by Fire-Resistant Materials)

  • 이 논문은 정적 재하상태에 있는 무피복 강합성보와 내화피복을 적용한 강합성보를 대상으로 화재 시 내부 온도 및 수직처짐에 대한 내화피복의 영향을 평가한 결과를 제시한다. 열응력해석을 위한 화재하중으로는 American Society for Testing and Materials E119의 표준화재곡선을 사용했으며, 강재거더 표면에 부착하는 내화재료의 방화효과를 구현하기 위해 외기에서 강합성보로 전달되는 열의 전달계수를 감소시켰다. 실규모 무피복 강합성보에 대한 구조화재실험에서 내부 온도분포와 수직처짐을 측정하였고 실험 결과와의 비교를 통해 비선형 구조화재해석 결과의 타당성을 검증하였다. 내화피복이 적용된 강합성보의 구조화재해석 결과로부터 강재거더 표면에 내화재를 적용할 경우 동일 화재 조건에서 무피복 강합성보에 비해 내부 온도와 수직처짐이 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 열전달계수의 변화에 따른 열응력 응답으로부터 화재 시 강합성보의 온도 및 구조거동에 대한 내화피복의 영향을 제시하였다.

토양중 유류정량법 - ASTM D 5831 (Test Method for Screening Fuels in Soils - ASTM D 5831)

  • 본 분석방법은 토양중에 방향성화합물을 함유한 유류 존재를 스크리닝하는 방법으로 ASTM(The American Society for Testing and Materials)에 등록되어 있으며, 수분 제거제를 이용하여 토양수분에 의한 정량 오차를 줄이고 UV-Spectrophotometer로 정량한다. 오염된 유류의 종류를 알고 있으나 동일한 유류를 구하지 못할 경우에는 일반적으로 동일종에서 얻어진 계수로 농도를 추정하며, 오염된 유류의 특성을 모를 경우에는 본 방법으로 오염여부 판단만이 가능하다. 그러나 토양에 오염된 것과 동일한 유류로 검량선을 작성할 경우에는 대략적인 정량도 가능하며, 분석방법을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 일정량의 토양시료에 CaO를 첨가하여 토양수분에 의한 영향을 제거한 뒤 이소프로필알콜(isopropyl alcohol)로 추출하여 여과한다. 여과액을 254nm의 UV파장에서 흡광도를 측정하여 오염된 것과 동일한 유류로 작성된 검량선을 이용하여 정량한다.

잠수함용 GFRP 표면결함 수리에 따른 기계적 특성변화 연구 (A Study on the Mechanical Characteristic Change Accordance with Surface Damaged Submarine GFRP Repairing)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to define guideline for fiber-glass-resin-putty repairing method for submarine GFRP by comparing structural strength between normal GFRP and putty repaired GFRP. Methods: GFRP specimen tensile and flexural tests are conducted in accordance with ASTM D3039/3039M-17 and ASTM D790 Procedure A. The collected data was analysed whether satisfies its structural strength criteria. Furthermore, It is analysed to find dominant reason of structural strength changes. Results: The result of the study is as follows; flexural strength of GFRP is satisfied strength criteria for all test cases, but tensile strength is not satisfied its criteria for some cases which over 2 mm depth of surface damage. Conclusion: The fiberglass-resin-putty repairing method should be applied to under 2 mm depth of damage which is not affecting to roving fiber layer destruction in GREP laminate.

Single-Pass Flow-Through Test방법에 의한 유리의 정용해율 측정 (Determination of Forward Dissolution Rate of Glass by a Single-Pass Flow-Through Test)

  • Single-pass flow-through (SPFW) 방법에 의한 유리고화체의 용해율 측정에서 정밀도를 구하기 위하여 연구소간 실험프로그램의 하나로서 붕규산유리고화체의 정용해율을 구하였는데, 이 SPFT 방법은 American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)에서 표준화를 위하여 작성되었다. 이를 위해 100/200 mesh 크기의 모의 저방사능 유리고화체 분말시료를 $70^{\circ}C$, 알곤 분위기에서 SPFT 방법으로 리튬 완충용액 (pH=10)을 이용하여 용해실험을 시도하였다. 얻어진 용출액 중 규소와 붕소의 농도에 따라 용해율의 변화를 구한 결과, 유리의 정용해율이 $2.7\times10^{-5}g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^-1$ 부근으로 나타났다.
