Mechanical Properties of Heat Exchanger Element with Higher Capacity Waste Heat Recovery PDC Clean Ventilation System (대용량 폐열회수 PDC청정 환기시스템용 열교환 소자의 기계적 특성)

  • Recently, the higher capacity waste heat recovery PDC clean ventilation system has a tendency which is increasing due to the excellent energy reduction in factory, big building, and so on. This system was developed to complement the room environment which is deteriorated. However, the researches and technologies about this system were not well studied. Specially, the characteristic for heat exchanger element used to this system were not well known. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of the heat exchanger element as the core parts compose of this system. From results, tensile strength and elongation of the plate type heat exchanger element had about 10.11~14.32 kgf/$mm^2$ and 8.0~16.2%, respectively.

Injection Molding of High Aspect Ratio Nano Features Using Stamper Heating/Cooling Process (스탬퍼 가열/냉각을 이용한 고세장비 나노 구조물 성형)

  • Polypropylene substrate with hair-like nano features(aspect $ratio{\sim}10$) on the surface is fabricated by injection molding process. Pure aluminum plate is anodized to have nano pore array on the surface and used as a stamper for molding nano features, The size and the thickness of the stamper is $30mm{\times}30mm$ and 1mm. The fabricated pore is about 120nm in diameter and 1.5 um deep. For molding of a substrate with nano-hair type of surface features, the stamper is heated up over $150^{\circ}C$ before the filling stage and cooled down below $70^{\circ}C$ after filling to release the molded part. For heating the stamper, stamper itself is used as a heating element by applying electrical power directly to each end of the stamper. The stamper becomes cooled down without circulation of coolant such as water or oil. With this new stamper heating method, nano hairs with aspect ratio of about 10 was successfully injection molded. We also found the heating & cooling process of the stamper is good for releasing of molded nano-hairs.

Effect of scattered x-rays on subject contrast and image sharpness

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the scattered x-rays on the subject contrast and image sharpness for various tube voltages. For the purpose, we measured the scatter-to-primary ratio(SPR) for the tube voltages f 50 to 100kV and obtained the tube voltage dependence of the subject contrast of an aluminum plate in a polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) phantom. Furthermore, the overall modulation transfer functions(MTFs), which consist of MTFs of a screen-film system and scatter FTMs, were obtained for tube voltages of 50 to 100 kV. The subject contrast decreased with the tube voltage due to that the SPR increased with the tube voltage and that the difference in effective linear attenuation coefficients between the object and its surroundings decreased with the tube voltage. The maximum frequency of the overall MTF decreased from about 2 mm$\^$-1/ to 1 mm$\^$-1/ with the tube voltage increasing from 50 to 100 kV.

Mode Characteristics Analysis of the SH-EMAT Waves for Evaluating the Thickness Reduction (두께감육 평가를 위한 SH-EMAT파의 모드특성 분석)

  • In this paper, study on the mode characteristics analysis of the SH-EMAT (shear horizontal, electromagnetic acoustic transducer) waves for evaluating the thickness reduction in plates such as corrosion and friction is presented. Noncontact methods for ultrasonic wave generation and detection have been a great concern and highly demanded due to their capability of wave generation and reception on surface of high temperature or on rough surface. Mode identification of the SH-EMAT wave is carried out in an aluminum plate with thinning defects using time frequency analysis method such as wavelet transform, compared with theoretically calculated group velocity dispersion curve. The changes of various wave features such as the amplitude and the time-of-flight have been observed and the correlations with the thickness reduction have been investigated. Firstly, experiments have been conducted to confirm that it is possible to selectively generate and receive specific desired SH modes. These modes have then been analyzed to select the parameters that are sensitive to the thickness change. The results show that the mode cutoff and the time-of-flight changes are feasible as key parameters to evaluate the thickness reduction.

Weldability of Al 7075 Alloy according to different tools and welding conditions by F.S.W (Al 7075의 마찰교반 용접부 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper showed mechanical properties and behaviors of macrostructures for specimens welded by F.S.W according to welding conditions and tool with 6.35$mm_t$ aluminum 7075-T651alloy plate. It resulted in defect-free weld zone in case tool rotation speed was 800rpm, 1250rpm and 1600rpm respectively that transition speed was changed to 15mm/min, 61mm/min and 124mm/min with tool's pin diameter 4${\Phi}$mm and 6${\Phi}$mm. The optimum mechanical property, ultimate stress,${\sigma}_Y$=470Mpa was obtained at the condition of 124mm/min of travel speed with 800rpm of tool rotation speed using full screw type pin, shoulder dia. 20${\Phi}$mm, pin dia.6${\Phi}$mm and pin length 6mm. The full-screw type and the half-screw type pin showed the similar behaviors of weldability. It is found that the size of nugget was depended on tool transition speed and tool dimension by macrostructures of the cross section of weld zone.

Infrared Radiation Properties for SiO2 Films Made by Sol-Gel Process (졸-겔법으로 제조된 SiO2막의 적외선 복사특성에 관한 연구)

  • FT-IR and thermograph were used to investigate the infrared radiation characteristics of $SiO_2$film made by the sol-gel method. FT-IR spectrum of the $SiO_2$film showed high infrared absorption by Si-O-Si vibration at 1220, 1080, 800 and cm$460^{-1}$ The infrared absorption and radiation wavelength ranges of the $SiO_2$film measured by the integration method coincided with the reflection method, and the infrared emissivity was 0.65, equally. Depending on the bonding of elements, the infrared emissivity was high in the wavelength range where the infrared absorption rate was high, that follows the Kirchhoff's law. The emissivity showed the highest value in the wavelength range between $8∼10\mu\textrm{m}$. $SiO_2$film was considered as an efficient materials for infrared radiator at temperature below 10$0^{\circ}C$. The heat radiation temperature was $117^{\circ}C$ for the aluminum plate, but $146^{\circ}C$ for the $SiO_2$film after 7 minutes heat absorption, consiquently, $29^{\circ}C$ higher than the former.

Excitation Light Source Dependence of Photo-catalytic Efficiency for Benzene Removal (벤젠제거에 대한 광촉매 효율의 여기광원 의존성)

  • We have investigated the excitation-light source dependence of photo-catalytic efficiency for the benzene removal. The photo-catalytic module for the benzene removal is fabricated by a combination of GaN-based ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV GaN-LED) and $TiO_2$ thin film coated on an aluminum plate. The benzene reduction rates of 365 nm and 375 nm modules at 60 mA junction current are approximately $8.95\;\%/Hr$ and $9.2\;\%/Hr$, respectively, which indicates that 365 nm GaN-LED is more effective than 375 nm GaN-LED. The benzene reduction efficiency is also noticeably dependent on the excitation wavelength and excitation-light power, as well as it is increased with the shorter wavelength and higher excitation power. This result exhibits that UV GaN-LED is useful to remove the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) existing in the environment.

  • This work presents the results of a thixo-extrusion process applied to aluminum alloy and and reheating characteristics of semi-solid A356 Alloy using have been discussed. The reheating experiment was performed using an electric resistance furnace and multi-stage heating for uniform reheating. The thixo-extrusion was performed at the optimal reheating conditions of the semi-solid A356 alloy, the the extrusion conditions were an extrusion ratio of 33 and ram speed of 6 mm/sec. The results showed that the thixo-extrusion of semi-solid A356 alloy fabricated by the cooling slope reduced the extrusion pressure by 180% in comparison with hot extrusion, and that a sound extrusion could be obtained in spite of the same extrusion ratio and strain rate.

  • Currently, studies on weight reduction and fuel efficiency increase are the most important topics in the automotive industry and many studies are under way. Among them, weight reduction is the best way to raise fuel efficiency and solve environmental pollution and resource depletion. Materials such as aluminum, magnesium and carbon curing materials can be found in lightweight materials. Among these, research on improvement of bonding technology and manufacturing method of materials and improvement of material properties through study of ultrahigh strength steel sheet is expected to be the biggest part of material weight reduction. As the strength of the ultra hight strength steel sheet increases during forming, it is difficult to obtain the dimensional accuracy as the elastic restoring force increases compared to the hardness or high strength steel sheet. It is known that the spring back phenomenon is affected by various factors depending on the raw material and processing process. We have conducted analytical evaluations and studies to analyze the springback that occurs according to the cross-sectional shape of the ultra high tensile steel sheet.

  • A patient table considering x-ray transparency, mechanical safety and compact multi-axis moving mechanism has been developed. The goal of medical imaging technology is to keep radiation exposure of patients during x-raying to a minimum. In order to obtain clear pictures at low dose, however, the x-ray table which supports the patient must be sufficiently permeable to radiation to allow good image resolution. The table top is made of low density foam for x-ray transparent effective area and structural aluminum plate to connect moving mechanism under the table, covered with thin carbon fiber. This sandwich construction is very rigid and lightweight, so the table top can handle relatively heavy load comparing to its cantilevered structure which is unavoidable as long as cooperate with C-arm radiography. To verify the design results finite element static analysis and experimental tests have been done. According to the verification the results well satisfy certification guide lines as a medical device.
