내관$(PC_6)$의 황련해독탕 약침이 EEG 변화에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal Acupuncture at the $PC_6$(Naegwan) on the EEG)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effects of Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal acupuncture at the PC6(Naegwan) on the EEC of normal human being by using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEC power spectrum exhibit site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity. 32 channel EEC study was carried out in 11 subjects (11 males; age=27.8 years). Results : In ${\alpha}(alpha)$ band, the power values at T3, TT1, CP1, T5, Po2, O1, Oz channels(p<0.05) during the PC6-acupoint treatment were increased significantly. In ${\beta}(beta)$ band, the power values at TT1, CP1, T5, P3, Po2, O1, Oz channels(p<0.05) during the PC6-acupoint treatment were increased significantly. In ${\theta}(theta)$ band, the power values at T3, TT1, CP1, Po2, O1, Oz channels(p<0.05) during the PC6-acupoint treatment were increased significantly. In ${\delta}(delta)$ band, the power values at F4, T3, CP1, O1, Oz, O2 channels(p<0.05) during the PC6-acupoint treatment were increased significantly. Conclusions : This results suggest that Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbalacupuncture at the PC6 is significantly in ${\alpha}(alpha)$ band.

자동증폭기를 이용한 위상분상기(Phase Splitter) 설계 (Design of a Phase Splitter(2.4[GHz]) using Differential Amplifier)

  • 이 논문에서는 Chireix Outphasing power amplifier를 설계하는데 필수적인 위상분상기(phase splitter)를 설계하고자 한다. 분상기는 $0[^{\circ}]$도 위상의 신호를 $+90[^{\circ}]$$-90[^{\circ}]$ 위상을 갖는 신호로 분리한다. Chireix Outphasing Power amplifier는 분상기에서 분리된 $+90[^{\circ}]$$-90[^{\circ}]$ 위상을 갖는 신호를 각각 증폭한 후 다시 합하여 선형화 된 최종 출력을 얻는다. 분상기는 Chireix Outphasing power amplifier를 설계할 때 가장 핵심적인 장치이다. 이 분상기는 입력된 신호의 위상을 정확하게 $90[^{\circ}]$ 위상차이를 갖도록 설계하기가 매우 어렵다. 따라서 이 논문에서 위상분상기(phase splitter)는 두 개의 위상을 $180[^{\circ}]((90[^{\circ}]+{\alpha}),\;-(90[^{\circ}])+{\alpha}))$의 차이를 갖도록 시뮬레이션 툴을 이용하여 구현하고자 한다.

  • To estimate dispersion stability of particles, suspending power and particle size were examined as functions of pHs, surfactants, electrolytes and ionic strengths using ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle as the model of particulate soil. Suspending power and particle size were determined by UV-Vis spectrumeter and by light scattering using the polarization ratio method, respectively. The suspending power was relatively high with polyanion electrolytes and was low with neutral salts. The suspending power was biphasis, minimum pH 6~7, and the effect of surfactant on the suspending power was insignificant. Generally suspending power increased with decreasing the particle size governed aggregation of dispersed particles regardless of solution conditions. Hence the suspending power was inversely related to the particle size.

Action of ${\alpha}$-Amylase and Acid on Resistant Starches Prepared from Normal Maize Starch

  • Effects of acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase on resistant starches including retrograded RS3 and cross-linked RS4 prepared from normal maize starch were investigated. Acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase hydrolytic patterns of RS3 were similar, while those of native starch and RS4 differed. Acid hydrolysis rate of RS3 was markedly higher at initial stage, then slowly decreased up to 20 days, whereas that of RS4 increased continuously. The sizes of acid- and ${\alpha}$-amylase-treated RS3 residues decreased, but those of RS4 remained unchanged. X-ray patterns of all treated residues did not change; however, the peak intensities increased. Swelling power of RS3 increased to 150% at $95^{\circ}C$, whereas that of RS4 differed depending on the treatment condition. Swelling power of acid-treated RS4 residue increased markedly, but that of ${\alpha}$-amylase-treated one remained constant. Gel filtration chromatography profiles of untreated RS3 and RS4 residues were similar, whereas that of acid-treated RS4 residue was different from them. RS showed different hydrolytic behavior by acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase depending on the type, and susceptibility of RS3 was higher than that of RS4.

Administration of Alphas1-Casein Hydrolysate Increases Sleep and Modulates GABAA Receptor Subunit Expression

  • Sleep is the most basic and essential physiological requirement for mental health, and sleep disorders pose potential risks of metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. Tryptic hydrolysate of ${\alpha}_{S1}$-casein (${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$) has been shown to possess stress relieving and sleep promoting effects. However, the differential effects of ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$ on electroencephalographic wave patterns and its effects on the protein levels of ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid A ($GABA_A$) receptor subtypes in hypothalamic neurons are not well understood. We found ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$ (120, 240 mg/kg) increased sleep duration in mice and reduced sleep-wake cycle numbers in rats. While ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$ (300 mg/kg) increased total sleeping time in rats, it significantly decreased wakefulness. In addition, electroencephalographic theta (${\theta}$) power densities were increased whereas alpha (${\alpha}$) power densities were decreased by ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$ (300 mg/kg) during sleep-wake cycles. Furthermore, protein expressions of $GABA_A$ receptor ${\beta}_1$ subtypes were elevated in rat hypothalamus by ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$. These results suggest ${\alpha}_{S1}-CH$, through $GABA_A$ receptor modulation, might be useful for treating sleep disorders.

  • From the EtOAc fraction of the MeOH extract of Ulmus davidiana, (-)-catechin (1), (-)-catechin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-apiofuranoside (2), and (-)-catechin-7-O-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranoside (3) were isolated and characterized on the basis of $^1H-and\;^{13}C-NMR$, and FABMS spectral data. Compounds 1-3 showed more strong reducing power activities than ${\alpha}-tocopherol$, a positive control.

  • 본 연구에서는 EEG 반응을 통하여 향이 인간에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 24-26세의 8명의 남성 피험자를 대상으로 국제 기준 전극법에 따라 19 부위에서 EEG를 기록하여 분석하였다. 실험에 사용한 향은 Rose oil bulgarian, Lemon oil misitano, Jasmin abs, Laverder iol france (KIMEX co. Ltd) 등 4가지의 천연오일을 사용하였다. 향에 대한 선입견을 배제하고 각 피실험자별로 주관적 평가를 통하여 가장 쾌하게 느낀 향이 제시되었을 때의 뇌파와 무향 상태 뇌파에서 $\alpha$/$\beta$ 대역의 power spectrum 비를 구하여 비교하였다. 무향 상태에 비해 각 피실험자별로 가장 쾌하게 느낀 향을 제시했을 때 F3, Fz, F4, T4 부분에서 $\alpha$/$\beta$ 대역의 power spectrum 비의 통계적으로 유의한 증가를 관찰할 수 있었으며 이는 $\alpha$/$\beta$ 대역의 power spectrum 비가 향의 쾌도를 측정하는 하나의 새로운 척도가 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

Analysis of the Likelihood of Internal Radiation Exposure When Decommissioning a Nuclear Power Plant in Korea

  • In Publication No. 66 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, an activity median aerodynamic diameter (AMAD) of 5 ㎛ is considered in internal exposure dose assessment owing to inhalation of radionuclides in a workplace. However, analysis of aerosols generated during dismantling experiments, such as in the oxy-cutting of a reactor vessel conducted in Korea, revealed that the radioactive aerosols have AMAD ranging from 0.024 to 0.064 ㎛. Such extremely fine aerosols can induce internal exposure if inhaled. In particular, alpha radionuclides in aerosols can lead to significantly higher levels of radiation exposure than beta and gamma radionuclides, thus highlighting the need to establish appropriate internal exposure radiation protection programs and monitoring systems that specifically address alpha radionuclides when decommissioning nuclear power plants in Korea.

엿기름의 효소활성과 관련한 보리의 품질특성 (Quality Characteristics of Barley Varieties Related to Enzymatic Activity in Malt)

  • 엿기름의 품질 요소인 당화력(DP)은 보리품종에 따라 큰 차이를 나타내 $139{\sim}220^{\circ}L$의 범위에 있었다. 당화력은 ${\alpha}-amylase$ 보다 ${\beta}-amylase$와 높은 상관관계가 있어 엿기름의 ${\beta}-amylase$ 활성이 매우 중요한 인자였으며, 엿기름 첨가에 따른 amylograph 전분기질 점도 감소는 ${\alpha}-amylase$와 관련이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 보리품종들의 품질요소들을 분석하여 엿기름 당화력과의 상관관계를 조사한 결과 엿기름의 당화력은 원맥의 품질인자와 상관관계가 별로 높지 않았으나 중량이 낮은 품종이나 덜 풍만한 품종에서 당화력이 높은 경향을 보여주었다. 보리원맥이 지니고 있는 ${\beta}-amylase$ 활성은 엿기름의 당화력과 상관관계가 있는 것으로 평가되었으며 엿기름의 당화력을 예측할 수 있는 잠재적인 당화력으로서 엿기름 제조에 매우 유용한 품질인자인 것으로 판단되었다.

Does a Frontal 2-Electrode Electroencephalogram Provide Sufficient Neuropsychological Information in Various Major Psychiatric Disorders?

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to compare the signal obtained from the frontal 2-electrodes EEG with that obtained from the temporal, central, and parietal 2 electrodes. Methods : EEGs were recorded in a total of 67 patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), 104 patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), and 29 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). For each disease group, there were healthy controls (HC) that were paired accordingly (HC1=69, HC2=104, HC3=27). The following measurements were compared across electrodes: band power, alpha peak frequency (APF), APF power, alpha asymmetry (AA), and Kolmogorov complexity (KC). Results : Statistically significant differences were found in band power measured from frontal electrodes compared to electrodes placed in other locations. Specifically, the power of theta waves was measured higher in the temporal electorodes, alpha 1 and alpha 2 waves in the parietal, beta 1 and beta 2 in the central, and gamma waves in the temporal electrodes. Both SCZ and AD patients showed increased theta power in all electrodes. In SCZ patients, APF decreased in the central and temporal electrodes, but the APF power analysis showed no difference between the patients and controls. Additionally, AD patients exhibited increased AA in the central EEG, while SCZ patients showed decreased KC in the parietal and temporal electrodes. Conclusion : Depending on the electrode location, sensitive EEG frequencies differed. Compared with signals from other electrodes, frontal EEG in MDD patients revealed generally constant signal values, though the temporo-parieto-central electrodes appeared to be more reliable in SCZ and AD patients.
