개의 피부 결손창에서 창상수축에 대한 Chitosan, Aloevera, Fucidin Natrium 및 Premycin Ointment의 효과 (The Wound Contractive Effects of Chitosan, Aloe Vera, Fucidin Natrium and Premycin Ointment on Skin Defect Wound in Dogs)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the wound contraction of chitosan, aloe vera, fucidin natrium, and premycin ointment on defected wound from full-thickness skin defects(1 cm $\times$ 1 cm). Twelve dogs were designed in 5 different positions on the dorsal thoracolumbar. We examined the effects of wound contraction every four other day 16 for days. Percentage of wound contraction based on epitherial overall area of defected wound which calculated by image analyzer and computer. Four to 8 days after wound contraction in wound defected dogs, the epithelial overall rate were the most high presented by 48.1 % in the chitosan group and were the lowest by 26.8% in the premycin group. In 16 days, chitosan group were the most heigh presented by 94.4% and premycin group were the lowest by 76.5% compare to saline group of 85.9%. Thus, we conclude that the chitosan is a possible role for improvement of wound contraction by wound defected dogs.

천연과즙을 이용한 Aloe vera L.의 callus 배양과 이들 추출물의 항산화 및 항균활성 효과 검정 (The Effect of Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity on the Extracted Its Material and Aloe vera L. Callus Culture by the Natural Fruit Juice)

  • In order to obtain functional materials from aloe callus, we cultured Aloe vera L. leaf on MS medium added 0.2 mg/L IAA, 0.3 mg/L kinetin and 100 mg/L grape or/and apple juice for 30 days. While a callus differentiation during callus culture did not show, the cultured leaves were uniquely released extracellular material into the agar plate. After cultivation for 18 days, the cultured leaf and agar were harvested for extraction a functional material. The materials extracted were measured on the amount of total phenols, flavonoids and polysaccharides and determined on the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. In result, callus extracts of additive free (CT) and added apple juice (2T) had more amount of phenol compound ($659{\mu}g/mL$, $533{\mu}g/mL$) and flavonoid ($580{\mu}g/mL$, $501{\mu}g/mL$) than natural leaf (p: $525{\mu}g/mL$, f: $301{\mu}g/mL$). However, the extract of natural leaf had the better effect of lipid peroxidation and polysaccharide content than the culture extract. All samples extracted had same effect on the nitrite scavenging activity. On the other hand, only 2T extract showed excellent 72% nitric oxide scavenging activity. The agar extract was also confirmed to contain polyphenol compound and polysaccharide content that had antioxidant and antimicrobial activity partly.

Adjuvanticity of Processed Aloe vera gel for Influenza Vaccination in Mice

  • The effectiveness of current influenza vaccines is considered suboptimal, and 1 way to improve the vaccines is using adjuvants. However, the current pool of adjuvants used in influenza vaccination is limited due to safety concerns. Aloe vera, or aloe, has been shown to have immunomodulatory functions and to be safe for oral intake. In this study, we explored the potential of orally administered processed Aloe vera gel (PAG) as an adjuvant for influenza vaccines in C57BL/6 mice. We first evaluated its adjuvanticity with a split-type pandemic H1N1 (pH1N1) Ag by subjecting the mice to lethal homologous influenza challenge. Oral PAG administration with the pH1N1 Ag increased survival rates in mice to levels similar to those of alum and MF59, which are currently used as adjuvants in influenza vaccine formulations. Similarly, oral PAG administration improved the survival of mice immunized with a commercial trivalent influenza vaccine against lethal homologous and heterologous virus challenge. PAG also increased hemagglutination inhibition and virus neutralization Ab titers against homologous and heterologous influenza strains following immunization with the split-type pH1N1 Ag or the commercial trivalent vaccine. Therefore, this study demonstrates that PAG may potentially be used as an adjuvant for influenza vaccines.

The Glycopeptide, a Promoter of Thymidine Uptake, from Aloe Vera

  • As a part of search for new biologically active constituents from aloe, we have isolated a glycopeptide, called G1G1M1DI2, from the gel(G1) of Aloe vera. Chemical and spectroscopic evidence indicated that G1G1M1DI2 is a glycopeptide. The molecular weight of G1G1M1DI2 was about 5,500 daltons, and the carbohydrate and protein contents were 20.9% and 32.6%, respectively. Periodate oxidation and enzymic degradation gave peptide moiety and carbohydrate moiety, respectively. Carbohydrate moiety is composed of fucose, galactose, glucose and mannose in a molar ratio of 0.5:2.4;48.8:48.3. Peptide moiety is composed of fifteen amino acids, and glutamic acid and glycine were the major componants. The glycopeptide, G1G1M1DI2, stimulated thymidine uptake of SCC 13 cells about 6.5 times the control. This result suggests that this glycopeptide has a skin cell proliferating activity.

The Influence of Long-term Aloe Supplement on Anti-oxidative Defenses and Cholesterol Content in Brain and Kidney of Aged Rats

  • The present study was investigated the anti-oxidative effects of aloe vera ingestion on brain and kidney in aged rats by monitoring several oxidative-related parameters. Male specific pathogen-free Fischer 344 rats were randomly divided into four groups of five rat each: Group A was fed test chow without aloe supplementation; Group B was fed a diet containing a 1% freeze-dried aloe filet; Group C was fed a diet containing a 1% charcoal-processed, freeze-dried aloe filet; and Group D was fed a diet containing a charcoal-processed, freeze-dried, whole leaf aloe in drinking water. Analyses of tissues were done at 4 months and 16 months of age. Results showed that a long-term intake of aloe, regardless of the preparation used, enhanced antioxidant defenses against lipid peroxidation, as indicated by reduced phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide levels in both brain and kidney. The additional benefit of aloe intake on the anti-oxidative action was evidenced by enhanced superoxide dismutase and catalase activity in all aloe-ingested groups. Another beneficial effect of aloe shown in this study, although not an anti-oxidative parameter, was its cholesterol-lowering effect as detected in brain and kidney with significant decreases at age16 months of aloe-fed rats. Based on these findings, we conclude that a long-term dietary aloe supplementation modulated the anti-oxidative defense systems and cholesterol level.

항당뇨 물질 Aloe QDM complex의 세포내 포도당 흡수촉진 효능 (Effects of Antidiabetic Agent, Aloe QDM complex, on Intracellular Glucose Uptake)

  • Previous studies have shown that Aloe QDM complex, which is consisted of chromium (Cr), aloesin (ALS) and processed Aloe vera gel (PAG), exert antidiabetic activity in a high fat diet-induced mouse model of type 2 diabetes. In this study we examined the mechanism of the antidiabetic activity of the Aloe QDM complex. Rat myoblast cell line L6 cells were cultured in the presence of Cr, ALS, and PAG alone and in combinations, and then the capability of the cells to uptake glucose was examined using radiolabeled glucose. All of the 3 agents, Cr, ALS and PAG, exerted glucose uptake-enhancing activity in L6 cells. The most potent capability to uptake glucose was observed when L6 cells were cultured with the Aloe QDM complex. The activity of the Aloe QDM complex to enhance glucose uptake was prominent in conditions where existing insulin concentrations are low. We also examined the effects of the Aloe QDM complex on the plasma membrane expression of GLUT4 in L6 cells. The Aloe QDM complex increased the content of GLUT4 in the plasma membrane, while decreasing the content of GLUT4 in the light microsome. Taken together, these results show that the antidiabetic activity of the Aloe QDM complex is at least in part due to the stimulation of glucose uptake into the muscle cells, and this activity of the Aloe QDM complex is mediated through the enhancement of the translocation of GLUT4 into the plasma membrane.

Aloe vera의 삽목 발근에 미치는 제요인에 관한 연구 (Studies on Factors Affected on Rooting of Aloe vera Cutting)

  • 본 연구는 Aloe vera의 흡지번식에 있어서 auxin류의 처리와 몇 가지 재배요인이 발근에 미치는 영향을 실험한 바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.1. 흡지의 크기와 근경의 유무에 따른 발근효과를 보면 단흡지(15-20cm)는 근 경을 제거한 것 보다 부착했을때 발근수가 많았고, 장흡지(25-30cm)는 근경을 제거했을때 근수 및 근건물중이 높은 경향을 나타냈다. 한편 단흡지는 근경이 부착되었을때 IBA 500mg/I처리에서 가장 높은 발근효과를 나타냈고, 장흡지는 근경을 제거했을때 IBA 1,000mg/I와 NAA 200mg/I처리에서 가장 촉진적이다.2. IBA, NAA, ethychlozate의 침지시간에 따른 무근경흡지의 발근양상을 보면 IBA와 NAA가 발근에 촉진적으로 작용했으나 NAA와 ethychlozate처리구에서는 약해를 받은 흔적이 나타나 aloe의 발근촉진에는 IBA가 가장 적합한 물질로 판단되었다. 또한 단흡지는 IBA 500mg/I에 10분 침지한 것이, 장흡지는 IBA 1,000mg/I에 10분 침지한 것이 근수, 최근장, 근중 및 발근율에서 가장 효과적 이었다. 그리고 흡지의 크기에 따른 발근효과는 장흡지가 더욱 촉진적이었고 균일한 발근양상을 나타냈다.3. 무근경장흡지의 근수와 근중은 IBA 1,000mg/I처리에 7일간 음건했을때 가장 높은 효과를 나타냈다. 그리고 IBA를 처리하지 않았을 때에는 음건이 길어수록 근장이 길어지는 경향을 보였다.4. Aloe흡지삽에 있어서 삽목용토에 따른 발근효과를 보면 인공용토 보다는 퇴비가 많이 함유된 재배토양에서 뿌리분화 및 뿌리생육이 가장 좋은 효과를 나타냈다.5. Aloe흡지삽의 발근은 투광율이 높을수록 양호한 경향을 보였고, 피복재료에 있어 서는 투명비닐 보다 흑색비닐이 발근을 더욱 촉진시켰다.

폴리에틸렌글리콜 처리에 의한 백년초, 알로에 절편의 탈수 및 건조와 기존 건조 방법과의 비교 (Dehydration of Opuntia ficus-indica and Aloe vera Slices Using Polyethylene Glycol and Comparison with Other Drying Methods)

  • 폴리에틸렌글리콜(PEG) 4,000을 20, 30, 40% 농도로 처리하여 백년초와 알로에 절편을 건조한 후, 열풍건조와 동결건조 처리된 시료와 복원율, 색도, 관능평가 등을 비교, 분석하였다. 건조시간에 따른 탈수 양은 두 시료 모두 PEG의 농도가 높을수록 탈수효율이 좋았다. 복원율에서는 열풍건조와 동결건조 처리 시료보다 PEG 처리 시료가 더 높은 복원율을 가졌다. 색도에서는 동결건조와 유사하였고 열풍건조보다는 우수하였다. 관능평가에서는 열풍건조나 동결건조보다 PEG 처리한 시료가 더 우수하였다. 따라서 본 연구 결과, PEG를 이용한 백년초와 알로에 절편의 건조는 시료의 세포파괴를 최소화하고 신선한 시료 본래의 상태로 복원될 수 있는 매우 효율적인 건조방법이라고 판단되며, 건조된 제품을 향후 기능성화장품 원료 등으로의 활용이 가능하다고 판단된다.

Quality and Acceptability of Meat Nuggets with Fresh Aloe vera Gel

  • Aloe vera has been used worldwide for pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries due to its wide biological activities. However, quality improvement of low fat meat products and their acceptability with added Aloe vera gel (AVG) is scanty. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of using fresh AVG on physicochemical, textural, sensory and nutritive qualities of goat meat nuggets. The products were prepared with 0%, 2.5%, and 5% fresh AVG replacing goat meat and were analyzed for proximate composition, physicochemical and textural properties, fatty acid profile and sensory parameters. Changes in lipid oxidation and microbial growth of nuggets were also evaluated over 9 days of refrigerated storage. The results showed that AVG significantly (p<0.05) decreased the pH value and protein content of meat emulsion and nuggets. Product yield was affected at 5% level of gel. Addition of AVG in the formulation significantly affected the values of texture profile analysis. The AVG reduced the lipid oxidation and microbial growth in nuggets during storage. Sensory panelists preferred nuggets with 2.5% AVG over nuggets with 5% AVG. Therefore, AVG up to 2.5% level could be used for quality improvement in goat meat nuggets without affecting its sensorial, textural and nutritive values.

사염화탄소 유도 간독성에 대한 발효알로에의 보호효과 (Protective Effects of Fermented Aloe vera on Carbon Tetrachloride-induced Hepatotoxicity in Sprague-dawley Rats)

  • L. casei 균주를 이용하여 알로에를 발효한 결과 다당체의 분자량이 현저하게 저분자화 되었다. 사염화탄소로 유도된 흰쥐의 간과 혈청에서 간기능 활성, 항산화효소 활성 및 지질과산화에 미치는 발효알로에의 용량별 효과를 조사하였다. 14일 연속적으로 발효알로에(50, 100 mg/kg)을 경구투여 하였다. 알로에 투여군에서 SOD, CAT의 활성은 유의성있게 활성이 증가하였으며, AST, ALT, MDA 함량을 측정한 결과 용량 의존적으로 감소하였다. 이러한 결과로 미루어 볼때 발효알로에는 사염화탄소로 유발된 간독성에 대하여 항산화효소 활성을 증가시키며, 지질과산화를 억제하는 것으로 사료된다.
