  • Since the direct normal insolation is a main factor for designing any solar thermal power system, it is necessary to evaluate its characteristics all over the country. We have begun collecting direct normal insolation data since December 1992 at 16 different locations and considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each station. KIER(Korea Institute of Energy Research)'s new data will be extensively used by solar thermal concentrating system users or designers as well as by research institutes. From the results, we can conclude that 1) Yearly mean $2.67\;kWh/m^2/day$ of the direct normal insolation was evaluated for all days all over the 16 areas in Korea. 2) All day's direct normal insolation of spring and summer were $2.91\;kWh/m^2/day$ and $2.23\;kWHm^2/day$, and for fall and winter their values were $2.78\;kWh/m^2/day$ and $2.77\;kWh/m^2/day$ respectively. So, spring, fall and winter were higher, and summer was lower than the yearly mean value.

  • Falls associated with tripping over an obstacle can be dangerous, yet little is known about the strategies used for stepping over obstacles by Parkinson's patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate stepping over gait characteristics according to obstacle height in Parkinson's patients. The gait of 7 Parkinson's patients was examined during a 5.0 m approach to, and while stepping over, obstacles of 0, 2.5, 5.2, and 15.2 cm. Only five Parkinson's patients were able to clear all obstacles successfully; as such, only their data were analyzed. A one-way ANOVA for repeated measures was employed for selected kinematic variables to analyze the differences of the height of four obstacles. The results showed significant differences between obstacle height and: approaching speed (AS), foot clearance from the obstacle(FC), and step width (SW). The results showed no significant differences between obstacle height and: crossing speed (CS), toe distance (TD), and heel distance (HD). This strategy tends to reduce the risk of toe contact with the obstacle. Parkinson's patients were stepping over the obstacle slowly, stably and inefficiently.

  • The spanning column rank of an $m{\times}n$ matrix A over a semiring is the minimal number of columns that span all columns of A. We characterize linear operators that preserve the sets of matrix ordered pairs which satisfy multiplicative properties with respect to spanning column rank of matrices over semirings.

  • The term rank of a matrix A over a semiring $\mathcal{S}$ is the least number of lines (rows or columns) needed to include all the nonzero entries in A. In this paper, we characterize linear operators that preserve the sets of matrix ordered pairs which satisfy extremal properties with respect to term rank inequalities of matrices over nonbinary Boolean semirings.

  • In this paper, we show that if R is a local-global domain then the Question holds. McDonald and Waterhouse in [6] and Estes and Guralnick in [5] introduced the concept of local-global rings (so called rings with many units) independently. A local-global ring is a commutative ring R with 1 satisfying; if a polynomial f in R[ $x_{1}$, .., $x_{n}$] represents a unit over $R_{P}$ for every maximal ideal P in R, then f represents a unit over R. Such rings include semilocal rings, or more generally, rings which are von Neumann regular mod their Jacobson radical, and the ring of all algebraic integers.s.s.

  • We introduce the category IRel (H) consisting of intuitionistic fuzzy relational spaces on sets and we study structures of the category IRel (H) in the viewpoint of the topological universe introduced by L.D.Nel. Thus we show that IRel (H) satisfies all the conditions of a topological universe over Set except the terminal separator property and IRel (H) is cartesian closed over Set.

  • Land-use changes due to the socio-economic environment influence landscape patterns and processes, which affect habitats and biodiversity. This study considers the effects of such land-use changes, particularly on the traditional rural "Maeul" forested landscape, by analyzing landscape structure and vegetation changes. Three study areas were examined that have seen their populations decrease and age over the last few decades. Five types of plant life-forms (Raunkier life-forms) were distinguished to investigate ecosystem function. Principle component analysis was used to understand vegetation dynamics and community characteristics based on a vegetation similarity index. Ordination analysis transformed species-coverage data was introduced to clarify vegetation dynamics. Landscape indices, such as area metrics, edge metrics, and shape metrics, showed that spatial heterogeneity has increased over time in all areas. Pinus densiflora was the main land-use plant type in all study areas but decreased over time, whereas Quercus spp. increased. Over a decade, P. densiflora communities shifted to deciduous oak and plantation. These findings indicate that the impact of human activities on the Maeul landscape is twofold. While forestry activities caused heavy disturbances, the abandonment of traditional human activities has led to natural succession. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the type and intensity of these human impacts on landscape heterogeneity relate differently to vegetation succession. This reflects the cause and consequence of patch dynamics. We discuss an approach for sustainable landscape planning and management of the Maeul landscape based on traditional management.

  • Extreme hydrological events can cause serious threats to the society. Hence, the selection of probability distributions for extreme rainfall is a fundamental issue. For this reason, this study was focused on understanding possible distributional changes in annual daily maximum rainfalls (AMRs) over time in Sri Lanka using quantile regression. A simplified nine-category distributional-change scheme based on comparing empirical probability density function of two years (i.e. the first year and the last year), was used to determine the distributional changes in AMRs. Daily rainfall series of 13 station over Sri Lanka were analyzed for the period of 1960-2015. 4 distributional change categories were identified for the AMRs. 5 stations showed an upward trend in all the quantiles (i.e. 9 quantiles: from 0.05 to 0.95 with an increment of 0.01 for the AMR) which could give high probability of extreme rainfall. On the other hand, 8 stations showed a downward trend in all the quantiles which could lead to high probability of the low rainfall. Further, we identified a considerable spatial diversity in distributional changes of AMRs over Sri Lanka.

  • In this paper, we define an equivalence relation on the group of all permutations over the finite field GF($2^n$) and show each equivalence class has common cryptographic properties. And, we classify all exponent permutations over GF($2^7$) and GF($2^8$). Then, three applications of our results are described. We suggest a method for designing $n\;{\times}\;2n$ S(ubstitution)-boxes by the concatenation of two exponent permutations over GF($2^n$) and study the differential and linear resistance of them. And we can easily indicate that the conjecture of Beth in Eurocrypt '93 is wrong, and discuss the security of S-box in LOKI encryption algorithm.
