  • We propose a switched beam-forming antenna that satisfies not only ultra-wideband characteristics but also beam-forming in the WLAN frequency band using an ultra-wideband antenna and passive parasitic elements applying a broadband optimal reactance load algorithm. We design a power and phase estimation function and an error correction function by re-analyzing and normalizing all the components of the parasitic array using control system engineering. The proposed antenna is compared with an antenna with a pin diode and reactance load value, respectively. The pin diode is located between the passive parasitic elements and ground plane. An antenna beam can be formed in eight directions according to the pin diode ON (reflector)/OFF (director) state. The antenna with a reactance load value achieves a better VSWR and gain than the antenna with a pin diode. We confirm that a beam is formed in eight directions owing to the RF switch operation, and the measured peak gain is 7 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 10 dBi at 5.8 GHz.

  • In this paper, six kinds of spiral antenna, a combination of two types of spiral arm-width and three types of spiral curvature are analyzed by using moment method. Dividing spiral arms into N sections, the current distribution is calculated by Galerkin`s method. The radiation pattern and the antenna gain are derived from antenna currents. All os the six spiral antenna have amni-dirctional and wide-band characteristics, although the antenna gain changes within +_ 5dB bound for operating range(600MHz-2GHz). The variation of antenna`s gain is caused by the return loss in connection the Balun to the antenna. Simulation and experimental results on the radiation pattern also show spiral antennas have omni-directional and wide-band characteristics.

  • An L-band omnidirectional circular polarized wave antenna is designed and evaluated for transmitting/receiving of vehicle data. Conventional linear polarized wave antenna can not reveive clearly all of the vehicle data which come from the wide driving test range on account of distortion. To overcome this problem, an omnidirectional circular polarized wave antenna is required for the design, first of all, the characteristics, design principle and theoretical background of circular polarized wave with a little signal loss have been reviewed. The designed antenna characteristics an analysed and compared to the desired ones. Our results demonstrate that the strength of vehicle data is flat enough over the full test range using this new antenna.

  • UHF band omnidirectional antennas for RFID tag were designed. Crossed loaded dipole and bended dipole were applied to be designed for both miniaturization and omnidirectional radiation pattern. By suppling 90 degrees phase difference between crossed dipoles, omnidirectional E-plane patterns can be obtained. -10 dB reflection coefficients of 3 types dipole antenna which have designed under conjugate matched with input impedance of chip were shown as 670-1,050 MHz, 700-1,250 MHz and 600-1,020 MHz, respectively, and also shown that all antenna have omnidirectional radiation pattern both E and H plane.

  • This paper analyzes the benefit of using directional antennas against eavesdropping attack in millimeter wave (mmWave)-based networks. All devices are equipped with a directional antenna or an omni-directional antenna in a single-hop communications. The probability of a device being detected by an eavesdropper is analyzed based on the exposure region of a device. The relative detection rate is introduced to represent the benefit of using directional antenna. Numerical results show that there exists an optimal number of devices that maximizes the detection probability and it varies according to the parameters such as antenna beamwidth. It shows that the use of directional antenna enables to protect the devices from the detection by an eavesdropper for almost the whole situation in mmWave band communication.

  • A modified folded monopole slot antenna for 3G WCDMA (1.91 ~ 2.17 GHz), 4G LTE (2.17 ~ 2.67 GHz), 3.5 GHz 5G (3.42 ~ 3.7 GHz) and Wi-Fi dual band (2.4 ~ 2.484 GHz / 5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz) was proposed for the first time. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on a FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.3, thickness of 1.6 mm, and size of 35 × 60 mm2. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 2910 MHz(1.84 ~ 4.75 GHz) and 930 MHz(5.11 ~ 6.04 GHz), antenna gain in each frequency band is from 1.811 to 3.450 dBi. In particular, it was possible to obtain a commercially suitable omni-directional radiation pattern in all frequency bands of interest.

  • In this paper, a novel ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna for the UHF communications and Digital-TV reception is proposed. The proposed antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide(CPW) is based on a triangular patch that has a broadband characteristic. To further increase the bandwidth of the triangular patch antenna, the top side of the regular triangular patch is loaded with a notch cut and each oblique side with a step. In addition, a slope is given to the ground plane of the CPW structure. Experimental results show that the -10 dB return loss bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 2,320 MHz from 480~2,800 MHz(5.83:1 bandwidth), which covers all the frequency bands of the various wireless communication systems and Digital TV broadcasting in the UHF band. Within the entire operating frequency range, the measured antenna gain in y-z plane(E-plane) varies from 3.01 to 4.71 dBi.

  • In this paper, a printed small Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna with directive radiation characteristics based on combination of electric-magnetic radiators is presented. The combinations of the electric and magnetic type antennas result in the directive radiation patterns for all observed UWB frequency band. Simple combination of dipole antenna and loop antenna is also presented to show that proper configuration of electric radiator and magnetic radiator can produces directive radiation characteristics. The target frequency is from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz with size of $15\;mm{\times}31\;mm$. A proto-type of the combined antenna is simulated, fabricated and measured. Simulation and experimental results of input impedance and gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are presented. There are good agreements between the simulated and measured VSWR curves. Also, the results show the directive radiation characteristics with small antenna form factor over the target frequency range.

  • In this paper, we have researched designing a microstrip antenna, which will be replaced for a parabolic antenna. A microstrip antenna has been used in extremely limited field, but if it is applied to practical life like a DBS receiving antenna, we expect that it will be used in various way. First of all, if we use a microstrip antenna for a DBS receiving antenna, it should be guaranteed characteristics of broadband frequency. Therefore, the goal of this paper is designing an antenna which guarantees broadband frequency band for a DBS reception. Also, experiment with Koreasat, we have researched the propriety of this antenna for the DBS receiving antenna.
