AUXILIARY PRINCEPLE AND ERROR ESTIMATES FOR VARIATIONAL INEQUALITIES

  • The auxiliary principle technique is used to prove the uniqueness and the existence of solutions for a class of nonlinear variational inequalities and suggest an innovative iterative algorithm for computing the approximate solution of variational inequalities. Error estimates for the finite element approximation of the solution of variational inequalities are derived, which refine the previous known results. An example is given to illustrate the applications of the results obtained. Several special cases are considered and studied.

  • In this paper, we designed a pipeline (15,9) Reed-solomon decoder. To compute the error locator polynomials, we used the Euclidean algorithm. This algorithm includes computation of inverse element. We avoided the inverse element calculation in this RS decoder by using ROMs. We designed this decoder using VHDL. Simulation results show that the designed decoder corrects three error symbols. We implemented this design through an Altera FPGA chip.

  • The thermomechanical behaviors of SMA thin film actuator and their application are investigated. The numerical algorithm of the 2-D SMA thermomechanical constitutive equation is developed and implemented into the ABAQUS finite element program by using the user defined material (UMAT) subroutine. To verify the numerical algorithm of SMAs, the results are compared with experimental data. For the application of SMA thin film actuator, the methodology to maintain the precise configuration of inflatable membrane structure is demonstrated.

  • In this study, a new method coupling of Element-Free Galerkin(EFG) method and Infinite Elements(IE) method is presented for extending application of the EFG method to engineering problems in unbounded domain. EFG method and IE method are briefly reviewed, and then the coupling procedure of the two methods is proposed. Numerical Algorithm by way of EFG-lE coupling technique is also developed. Numerical results illustrate the performance of the proposed technique. The accuracy of numerical solutions by the developed algorithm is guaranteed in comparing those of the other methods.

  • With increasing the volume of digital multimedia market, the security and multimedia content protection issues are arising. Interest in H.264/AVC is emerging and special features in H.264/AVC element stream must be considered. We developed a new algorithm which scrambles and descrambles H.264/AVC element stream in compressed domain using manipulating CABAC initialization table and DCT coefficients. Extensive experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is effective and promising.

  • Polynomial is used to optimize crown bowl shape of a marine medium speed diesel engine piston. The primary goal of this paper is that it's for an original design through a thermal stress and highest temperature minimum. Piston is modeled using solid element with 6 design variables defined the positional coordinate value. Global optimum of design variables are found and evaluated as developed and integrated with the optimum algorithm combining genetic algorithm(GA) and tabu search(TS). Iteration for optimization is performed based on the result of finite element analysis. After optimization, thermal stress and highest temperature reduced 0.68% and 1.42% more than initial geometry.

Three-dimensional Topology Optimization using the CATO Algorithm

  • An application of the constrained adaptive topology optimization (CATO) algorithm is described for three-dimensional topology optimization of engineering structures. The enhanced assumed strain lower order solid finite element (FE) is used to evaluate the values of objective and constraint functions required in optimization process. The strain energy (SE) terms such as elastic and modal SEs are employed as the objective function to be minimized and the initial volume of structures is introduced as the constraint function. The SIMP model is adopted to facilitate the material redistribution and also to produce clearer and more distinct structural topologies. The linearly weighted objective function is introduced to consider both static and dynamic characteristics of structures. Several numerical tests are tackled and it is used to investigate the performance of the proposed three-dimensional topology optimization process. From numerical results, it is found to be that the CATO algorithm is easy to implement and extremely applicable to produce the reasonable optimum topologies for three dimensional optimization problems.

구조 최적화를 위한 특징형상 재설계 알고리즘 (A Feature-based Reconstruction Algorithm for Structural Optimization)

  • This paper examines feature-based reconstruction algorithm using feature-based modeling and based on topology optimization technology, which aims to achieve a minimal volume weight and to satisfy user-defined constraints such as stress, deformation related conditions. The finite element model after topology optimization allows us to remove some region of a solid model for predefined volume requirement. The stress or deformation distribution resulted from finite element analysis enables us to add some material to the solid model for a robust structure. For this purpose, we propose a feature-based redesign algorithm which inserts negative features to the solid model for material removal and positive features for material addition, and we introduce a bisection method which searches an optimal structure by iteratively applying the feature-based redesign algorithm. Several examples are considered to illustrate the proposed algorithms and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present approach.

수정된 Lo의 요소망 생성 알고리즘은 이용한 자동 삼각 요소망 생성 소프트웨어의 개발 (The Development of the Automatic Triangular Mesh Generation Software Using Modified Lo's Algorithm)

  • For last two decades numerous automatic mesh generation algorithms for various two dimensional objects have been introduced continuously and among them triangular mesh generation schemes have been majority because of efficiency and controllability. In our study, an existing triangular mesh generation algorithm developed by Lo is totally modified to more improve node distribution, element shape, and objects shape independency. ft is composed of node generation part and element generation part. In order to find a suitable node position within geometry, the suggested algorithm searches desirable positions of points within boundary and optimizes node position to generate comparatively well-shaped elements. More over, the suggested algorithm handles various complex two dimensional objects and its meshing speed shows superiority to those of the existing triangulation mesh generation algorithms. It is fully automated in a sense of constructing object boundary and hence can be directly used as an independent meshing software.

  • Conventionally design for multi-stage cold forging depends on the designer's experience and decision-making. Due to such non-deterministic nature of the process sequence design, a flexible inference engine is needed for process design expert system. In this study, A* searching algorithm was introduced to arrive at the vetter process sequence design considering the number of forming stages and levels of effective strain, effective stress, and forming load during the porcess. In order to optimize the process sequence in producing the final part, cost function was defined and minimized using the proposed A* searching algorithm. For verification of the designed forming sequences, forming experiments and finite element analyses were carried out in the present investigation. The developed expert system using A* searching algorithm can produce a flexible design system based on changes in the number of forming stages and weights.
