  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of airport staff's attachment and participation to Incheon International Airport on satisfaction through mediating effects of development support and negative perception. This paper surveyed airline staff who worked at airport and conducted an empirical analysis based on survey results. This is because the effect of community members' attachment on satisfaction has been reviewed quite substantially. However, there has been insufficient research on the effect of attachment and participation on satisfaction through mediating effects of development support and emotional perception. According to empirical analysis, it was found that the participation of airport staff had a significant positive effect on satisfaction. In addition, support for development projects has also been proven to have a mediating effect. Following the empirical research results, this paper suggested implications for the 5th development project at Incheon International Airport.

  • Busan Gimhae Airport is a major airline base in Busan Gyeongnam and is close to Busan Harbor, With close the five largest ports in the world, GimHae has not been developed to fit the size and role of the port. Currently, there is an increasing number of flights and airline companies in use, but it is already foreseen that the airport has become a saturating airport and a military airport. Therefore, the lack of awareness of the importance of GimHae Airport and the lack of routes for airlines are a problem for KimHae Airport. This study considers the reduction of logistics cost and time due to the expansion of the international airport by anticipating the development of Busan International Airport centered on the ship supplies logistics based on the present point of time and the development plan of Busan Kimhae Airport. In addition, we review the priority of major air routes based on prefabricated logistics, and examine the contributions to the port logistics industry in Busan.

  • Today air traffic at the airport is complicated including a significant increase in the volume of air transport, so aviation accidents are constantly occurring. Therefore, we should newly recognize importance of the Air Traffic Safety, the core values of the Air Traffic. The location of airport that is the basic infrastructure of the air traffic and the security of safety for facilities and equipments are more important than what you can. From this dimension, I analyze the step-by-step safety factors that are taken into account in the airport development projects from the construction or improvement of the airport within the current laws and institutions and give my opinion on the enhancement of safety in the design and construction of airport. The safety of air traffic, as well as airport, depends on location, development, design, construction, inspection and management of the airport including airport facilities because we have to carry out the national responsibility that prevents the risk of large social overhead capital for many and unspecified persons in modern society through legislation regarding intervention of specialists and locational criteria for aviation safety from the planning stage of airport development. In addition, well-defined installation standards of airports and air navigation facilities, the key points of the airport development phase, can ensure the safety of the airport and airport facilities. Of course, the installation standards of airport and air navigation facilities are based on the global standard due to the nature of air traffic. However, to prevent the chaos for the safety standards in design, construction, inspection of them and to ensure the aviation safety, the safety standards must be further subdivided in the course of domestic legislation. The criteria for installation of the Air Navigation facilities is regulated most specifically. However, to ensure the safety of the operation for Air Navigation Facilities, performance system proved suitable for the Safety of Air Navigation Facilities must change over from arbitrary restrictions to mandatory restrictions and be applied for foreign producers as well as domestic producers. Of course, negligence of pilots and defective aircraft maintenance lead to a large portion of the aviation accidents. However, I think that air traffic accidents can be reduced if the airport or airport facility is perfect enough to ensure the safety. Therefore, legal and institutional supplement to prioritize the aviation safety from the stage of airport development may be necessary.

  • Over the last few years, the major airports in Asia have been operating at or close to their capacity. As a result, Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia decided to expedite the development of new airports. Accordingly, some of the existing airports have been completely used as other functions or purposes and the others operated as a domestic airport. In the latter case, re-development plans are needed for idle facilities. This paper evaluates the alternative options for re-development of idle airport facilities of Seoul Gimpo International Airport. The proposed methodology makes it possible to provide a practical and applicable evaluation of airport re-development plan. In particular, it can take into account the qualitative aspects of different interesting groups such as airport experts. passengers and airport peripheral community. The interview was conducted in order to obtain the different groups' view. To evaluate and select the best option of the airport re-development, this study adopted a fuzzy linguistic approach.

  • Purpose - We live in a world of constant change and competition. Many airports have specific competitiveness goals and strategies for achieving and maintaining them. The global economic recession, financial crises, and rising oil prices have resulted in an increasingly important role for facility investment and renewal and the implementation of appropriate policies in ensuring the competitive advantage for airports. It is thus important to analyze the factors that enhance efficiency and productivity for an airport. This study aims to determine the efficiency levels of 20 major airports in East Asia, Europe, and North America. Further, this study also suggests suitable policies and strategies for their development. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper employs the DEA-CCR, DEA-BCC, and DEA-Malmquist production index analysis models to determine airport efficiency. The study uses data on the efficiency and productivity of the world's leading airports between 2006 and 2010. The input variables include the airport size, the number of runways, the size of passenger terminals, and the size of cargo terminals. The output variables include the annual number of passengers and the annual cargo volume. The study uses basic data from the 2010 World Airport Traffic Report (ACI). The world's top 20 airports (as rated by the ACI report) are investigated. The study uses the expanded DEA Model and the Super Efficiency Model to identify the most effective airports among the top 20. The Malmquist productivity index analysis is used to measure airport effectiveness. Results - This study analyzes longitudinal and cross-sectional data on the world's top 20 airports covering 2006 to 2010. A CCR analysis shows that the most efficient airports in 2010 were Gatwick Airport (LGW), Zurich Airport (ZRH), Vienna Airport (VIE), Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Seattle-Tacoma Airport (SEA), San Francisco Airport (SFO), HongKong Airport (HKG), Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), and Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG). We find that changes in airport productivity are affected more by technical factors than by airport efficiency. Conclusions - Based on the study results, we offer four airport development proposals. First, a benchmark airport needs to be identified. Second, inefficiency must be reduced and high-cost factors need to be managed. Third, airport operations should be enhanced through technical innovation. Finally, scientific demand forecasting and facility preparation must become the focus of attention. This paper has some limitations. Because the Malmquist productivity index is based on the hypothesis of the, the identified production change could be over- or under-estimated. Further, as DEA estimates the relative efficiency. It also cannot generalize to include all airport conditions because the variables are limited. To measure airport productivity more accurately, other input variables and environmental variables such as financial and policy factors should be included.
