New aircraft category such as Light Sport Aircraft is introduced to prevent Ultralight Vehicle accidents and to promote aviation sports. Therefore, a new rule for airworthiness standard, certification, operation and maintenance of light sport aircraft is being created. The present study deals with LSA concept, development trend of LSA, airworthiness standards and certification policy. In particular, an aircraft type analysis of FAA certified LSA is conducted to establish performance requirements of Light Sport Aircraft designs.

Aircraft combat survivability(ACS) can be defined here as the probability of an aircraft to accomplish a given mission and not to be killed by enemy threats. The purpose of this thesis is to obtain analytically the combat survivability of the military aircraft according to the enemy and operation environment. Five factors under which a mission is being carried out are considered in this study. These factors are types and performance of enemy threats, aircraft susceptibility, aircraft vulnerability, ECM(electronic counter measures) capability, and pilot's capability. The model constructed in this study would be a useful tool to analyze ACS based on analytical method. It is also able to provide a better input data for wargaming simulation and present a criterion on determining optimal sorties for aircraft's air-to-ground mission.

In order to predict the future needs of the aircraft repair parts, each military group develops and applies various techniques to their characteristics. However, the aircraft and the equipped weapon systems are becoming increasingly advanced, and there is a problem in improving the hit rate by applying the existing demand prediction technique due to the change of the aircraft condition according to the long term operation of the aircraft. In this study, we propose a new prediction model based on the conventional time-series analysis technique to improve the prediction accuracy of aircraft repair parts by using machine learning model. And we show the most effective predictive method by demonstrating the change of hit rate based on actual data.

Continuous airworthiness system is comprised of regulations and procedures to assure the safety and reliability through the total stage of development, certification and operation of aircraft. The purpose of this system is not only to provide the guidelines that should be kept by manufacturers and operators, but also to evaluate the maintenance capability in every activity of safety related procedures. During the development process of the mid and large size aircraft, operational experience should be reflected systematically for a safer and more reliable product by using the meaningful data base from operation. The relationship of safety roles between manufacturer and operator is mutually complementary, and the roles of each function have an influence to the next step. Overall structure of the procedure contains the concept of continuous analysis and feedback to achieve highest degree of safety and reliability during the entire life of aircraft. Finally, this paper describes how the feedback is made and used for aircraft design from operational experience under the continuous analysis and surveillance system.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to improve quality for water infiltration to FCISA during military aircraft operation. Methods: A series of troubleshooting studies were conducted to identify the root cause of the water infiltration and reproduce the defects through various simulation tests. And design improvement measures were derived, and countermeasures were taken to prevent recurrence of moisture inflow defects. Conclusion: FCISA operates a very important role in the operation of military aircraft, and defects due to water infiltration are very fatal to flight safety. In this study, the root cause was identified and the design improvement to prevent recurrence was carried out through the failure investigation performed in this study, and the FCISA was improved so that the flight safety was not affected. The results of this study will be valuable back data that can be reflected in the design process through Lessons-Learned in the design phase of the aircraft that will be developed in the future.

The primary objective of this paper is to introduce the application of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in flight operations. These include: self-check-in, baggage handling, airport security and surveillance, airport operations monitoring, In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC), cockpit design, and cabin crew support. This paper investigates the application status and development trends of HMI and AR technologies for airports and aircraft. These technologies can provide more efficient in-flight passenger service and experience by using AR devices. This paper also discusses the developments such as; the Integrated Control Application (ICA) for the IFEC interface, AR flight simulation training program using the fixed-based simulator, and the AR aircraft cabin interior concept test program. These applications present how HMI and AR techniques can be utilized in actual flight operations. The developed programs in this paper can be applied to their purpose within aircraft interiors and services to enhance efficiency, comfort, and experience.
Objective: The exposure levels of disease-causing bacteria and germs were assessed on aircraft cleaning workers on multiple different aircrafts. Method: Five measuring points were selected depending on the aircraft types. Four aircraft cleaning agencies were selected for the test. Aircraft cleaning work was classified as intensive cleaning and general cleaning work. Ventilation in aircraft when sampling during the cleaning operation was categorized into forced ventilation and natural ventilation. The collection of airborne microorganisms was made through inertial impactors which were installed 1.5 meters above the bottom of the aircraft. The airborne bacteria and fungus growth badges were selected by Trytpic Soy Agar and Sabouraud Dextrose Agar. Results: The average concentrations of bacteria in the air were higher in the order of small, medium, and large airplanes. Rainy days had higher concentrations inside and outside the aircraft as compared to those in sunny days. Regarding ventilation, concentrations in natural ventilation were higher than concentrations in forced ventilation. According to the type of work, the concentrations in the intensive cleaning groups (cleaning one plane a day) were lower than those of the ordinary cleaning groups (cleaning several planes per day). Conclusion: The concentration levels of airborne bacteria and fungi in the aircraft surveyed were lower than the indoor environmental standards of Korea (800 cfu/m3 and 500 cfu/m3). The average concentrations of bacteria in the air and fungi in the air were highest in small aircraft owned by Company D.

An anti-collision light of a rotary-wing aircraft is used for the purpose of preventing collision during the operation of an aircraft and is a key component to ensure flight safety. The anti-collision lights of the Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) consist of upper and lower lights, and the power supply of anti-collision lights mounted on the aircraft. The anti-collision light is designed as a dual structure capable of brightness control and selective lighting. During the operation after delivery of the aircraft, abnormal lighting of anti-collision light occurred. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the aircraft system and component level was conducted to solve these phenomena at first. Then, the causes of anti-collision light anomalies were analyzed and the design changes are presented. The validity of design changes has been verified through the component and aircraft system ground/flight test.

The main purpose of this study is to develop air transportation cultural index which is able to estimate the level of them. Generally Speaking, air transportation cultural, a compound word of 'air transportation' and 'culture', is a substantial entity consisting knowledge, art, morality, legality, cultivation, customs, and etc, which comes from aircraft operation sector, airport operation/management sector and user sector. They are classified in a primary scope, as aircraft operation sector relating to flight operation, airport operation/management sector and user sector. The research and analysis were taken approximately 4 months, from June 2004 to October 2004. To evaluate the index, the detailed item for three categories were chosen and quantified. The grades for each items were induced from calculation formula for air transportation cultural index by applying weight values. The final grade of Korea's air transportation cultural index recorded 63.19 points.

In the aspect of the nature of aircraft maintenance work on divisible tasks carried out by a wide range of operation and expertise, any information transmission problems will not only cause a threat to flight safety but also reduce productivity by keeping the team from fulfilling its mission of delivering aircraft with airworthiness. In this regard, this study firstly identify the current status of information of aircraft maintenance and factors disturbing information transmission. Then, this article also find out the level of information culture of the AMT(Aircraft Maintenance Technicians) and problems in using information. Finally, suggestions on the model of the positive information culture in a field of aircraft maintenance through efficient use of the information including safety will be followed.
