  • EMS-type Maglev vehicle maintains constant levitation air-gap between electromagnet and guideway by using gap sensor. The other words, when Maglev vehicles levitating over the guideway, mass of the vehicle effects through 1st (electromagnetic air-gap control) and 2nd (air-spring) suspension to grider. Resonace between electromagnetic suspension and grider could be occurred, which causes instability and poor ridecomfort. This paper is to test the dymanic interaction between levitation air-gap and switching system grider that has less mass and high natural frequencies than other type of general girders.

Real-Time Compensation of Errors Caused by the Flux Density Non-uniformity for a Magnetically Suspended Sensitive Gyroscope

  • Magnetically suspended sensitive gyroscopes (MSSGs) provide an interesting alternative for achieving precious attitude angular measurement. To effectively reduce the measurement error caused by the non-uniformity of the air-gap flux density in a MSSG, this paper proposes a novel compensation method based on measuring and modeling of the air-gap flux density. The angular velocity measurement principle and the structure of the MSSG are described, and then the characteristic of the air-gap flux density has been analyzed in detail. Next, to compensate the flux density distribution error and improve the measurement accuracy of the MSSG, a real-time compensation method based on the online measurement with hall probes is designed. The common issues caused by the non-uniformity of the air-gap flux density can be effectively resolved by the proposed method in high-precision magnetically suspended configurations. Comparative simulation results before and after compensation have verified the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed compensation method.

PZT를 이용한 Air gap 안테나의 공진특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Resonant Properties of Air gap Antenna using PZT)

  • A technique is investigated for achieving broadband properties by controlling the operation frequency of microstrip antennas. The control is achieved by applying DC bias to the microstrip antenna. Air gap antenna with PZT post is fabricated. by using in C-band. In the case of Air gap antenna, the variation of center frequency was about 16Mhz and the bandwidth was increased up to 123.3% at 15dB, 160.7% at 20dB than before applying DC bias respectively. The change property of frequency in air gap antenna is nearly the same the C-V property in PZT.

  • In the paper, the noise reduction characteristics of a double-gap resonator, which is installed inside an enclosed cavity and is composed of two air-gaps and two partition sheets, are introduced by theoretical analyses and experimets. Analysis for a simple, theoretical model reveals that the double-gap resonator is more effective than the single-gap resonator that consists of an air-gap and a partition sheet, in that the former requires a smaller space than the latter. Furthermore, this theoretical conclusion is verified by comparison experiments using an actually manufactured enclosed cavity, of which the boundary surfaces are made of thick, stiff panels that can be assumed as rigid walls.

  • Observable mathematical model of DDM (Direct Dirve Motor) was suggested. The motor that operates the object system directly is called DDM. DDM has many strong points, however, it has a significant disadvantage, that it is more sensitive to the external force than the motor with reduction gear. In other word, if the force is applied, air gap of the motor can be perturbed. This causes not only difficulty in motor control but also even more serious problem, such as the breakdown of motor. However, if the air gap variation can be estimated, it can help prevent these problems. DDM should be modeled to estimate the air gap variation. The type of researched DDM is PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and precedent model of PMSM includes only characteristics of electro-magnetic system and rotational motion. However, suggested model should also include characteristics of translational motion of rotor to estimate the air gap variation. Also, this model should satisfy observability condition, because state observer is designed based on this model.

Wide Air-gap Control for Multi-module Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motors without Magnetic Levitation Windings

  • This paper proposes a wide air-gap control method for the multi-module permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (MM-PMLSM) based on independent vector control. In particular, the MM-PMLSM consists of symmetrical multi-module and multi-phase structures, which are basically three-phase configurations without a neutral point, unlike conventional three-phase machines. In addition, there are no additional magnetic levitation windings to control the normal force of the air-gap between each stator and mover. Hence, in this paper, a dq-axis current control applying a d-q transformation and an independent vector control are proposed for the air-gap control between the two symmetric stators and mover of the MM-PMLSM. The characteristics and control performance of the MM-PMLSM are analyzed under the concept of vector control. As a result, the proposed method is easily implemented without additional windings to control the air-gap and the mover position. The effectiveness of the proposed independent vector control algorithm is verified through experimental results.

  • A lot of researches on a linear induction motor(LIM) have been advanced to realize a traction system with high efficiency and performance for railway transit for a long time. However, most of them are limited in design of a LIM part such as Primary and Secondary. At a LIM which is traveling, the change of an air-gap(It occurs by a construction tolerance of a secondary reaction plate) becomes the cause which decreases a smoother ride and the efficiency of railway transit system. Therefore, uniform air-gap operation of LIM is important issue to improve the system efficiency. However, the researches which control the air-gap length of the LIM with technical and high-cost problem have been not advanced a lot. Therefore, in this research, it is introduced an air-gap control system for performance test machine of a scale-downed LIM which is able to control the air-gap length of the LIM and monitor a variety of performance changes of the propulsion system, and conducted a research on feasibility of the system based on characteristic analysis.

Effect of membrane deformation on performance of vacuum assisted air gap membrane distillation (V-AGMD)

  • Vacuum-assisted air gap membrane distillation (V-AGMD) has the potential to achieve higher flux and productivity than conventional air gap membrane distillation (AGMD). Nevertheless, there is not much information on technical aspects of V-AGMD operation. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the effect of membrane deformation on flux in V-AGMD operation. Experiments were carried out using a bench-scale V-AGMD system. Statistical models were applied to understand the flux behaviors. Statistical models based on MLR, GNN, and MLFNN techniques were developed to describe the experimental data. Results showed that the flux increased by up to 4 times with the application of vacuum in V-AGMD compared with conventional AGMD. The flux in both AGMD and V-AGMD is affected by the difference between the air gap pressure and the saturation pressure of water vapor, but their dependences were different. In V-AGMD, the membranes were found to be deformed due to the vacuum pressure because they were not fully supported by the spacer. As a result, the deformation reduced the effective air gap width. Nevertheless, the rejection and LEP were not changed even if the deformation occurred. The flux behaviors in V-AGMD were successfully interpreted by the GNN and MLFNN models. According to the model calculations, the relative impact of the membrane deformation ranges from 10.3% to 16.1%.

Robust Design of Air Compressor-Driving Quadratic Linear Actuator in Fuel Cell BOP System using Taguchi Method

  • The linear actuator has the inherent drawback of air gap variation because its linear motion is usually guided by the springs, which destabilizes the dynamic performance. In order to design the linear actuator to be insensitive to air gap, this paper describes the robust design of the air compressor driving linear actuator using Taguchi method. The orthogonal arrays are constructed with selected control factors and noise factor for minimum experiment. The control factors are thickness of inner magnet, height of upper yoke, thickness of outer magnet and thickness of lower yoke while noise factor is airgap. The finite element analysis using commercial electromagnetic analysis program "MAXWELL" are performed instead of experiment. ANOVA are performed to investigate the effects of design factors. In result, the optimal robust linear actuator which is insensitive to air gap variation is designed.
